    Hello, everyone.

So, I've been considering trying out the game Star Wars: The Old Republic. In it, you can apparently play one of these two species. However, I read that these species are not (or no longer) canon. I forget where I initially read that, but I looked around some, and found various posts discussing this, but nothing that seemed definitive. I also read about the Rattataki on a site called Wookiepedia. It had information about the history of the species, and only at the bottom did I find a section about a character that was formerly considered Rattataki. An entry about Darth Maul mentioned he is in fact Dathomirian Zabrak, so I assume, based on what I read about Dathomirians, that the Zabrak species is canon.

This seems like a good place to directly ask my question, and receive an accurate answer. So, could someone please tell me if the Rattataki and Zabrak species are canon?

    Thank you so much.

Zabrak still are. The native species of Rattatak now seems to be the Siniteen:

Wow, I just looked that up. So, it mentions "also known as the Rattataki." Does this mean the Rattataki as we (formerly) know them, including their history and appearance, never existed? I don't see how the former Rattataki could be the same as the current Siniteen.

Going by the new canon novel Dark Disciple, the basic idea - of a planet riddled by warring factions - is still there. It's the appearance that's the primary change in the "newcanon-verse".

Hm. That's so strange, primarily just because all that I read about the history of the Rattataki -- how they eventually emerged to the surface to fight off the beasts that previously forced them to remain underground, their history of gladiatorial arenas, combat and general violence, and so on -- just seems so out of place for this Siniteen species. It just doesn't seem to fit them at all.

I'm sorry, I'm really not trying to be an annoyance. I'm just trying to grasp all of this, because everything seems so jumbled, and kind of tossed around, it's somewhat difficult to decipher what exactly is going on in the canon universe, or what even actually exists there.

We'll have to wait and see how much of that makes it through to the newcanon. It was a surprise to me as well that Siniteen had taken the role of "Rattatak's primary residents".

Well, thank you so much for this information. I guess quite a bit of this is still going through a developmental phase of sorts. I think I'll avoid the Rattataki, and stick with a species that seems slightly more certain, lore-wise.

    Thanks again!
