As a hardcore Star Wars fanatic, am I obligated to watch Droids/Ewoks/Ewoks TV movie?

Like, I have no interest in really watching them, but at the same time I find it kind of weird theres technically whole Star Wars movies I've never watched.

Of course, you're not. A fan should only watch/read/play what they think would be worth doing. :)

    Of course not.

You're not "obligated" to watch anything outside of the sextology. Some who would go even further, arguing that you're not obligated to watch anything but the OT. The same will likely be said about VII - IX when they come out.

Aside from the central movies, the SWU is so vaaast that there are probably very very few people, even among the most hardcore fans, who have watched, read or played everything.

You're not missing a thing with any of those.

Both the Clone Wars and Rebels TV series are "must watch". But, those older ones you mentioned...? Nothing in them that would get anybody terribly excited. In fact, you'll probably want several hours of your life back after you finish.

You are under no obligation to watch anything, and you certainly aren't required to enjoy it.

I consider myself a hardcore Star Wars fan, and I'd rather watch the TCW movie than the OT. Heresy, I know, but that's just how it is.

It may not seem popular here but there is no wrong way to be a fan or take in content of GFFA. Do what you want. :)

The universe is a huge crazy jumble right now. If you're a canon purist, the only things that are carved in rock now are the OT, the prequels, and the Clone Wars/ Rebels cartoons. They may have mentioned the new Marvel series as being canon as well.

But beyond that, every fan is intellectually free to take in, accept or dismiss whatever they like. There's no obligation, everything is a great big SW soup and you're welcome to as many servings or as few as you'd like!

Personally, I found those old Ewoks movies to be pretty painful, so my take is to pass on that particular soup!

I like a lot of things about star wars but I don't want to watch what I don't like. I haven't watched the ewok movies or all of Rebels. I saw two episodes of rebels and didn't care for it. The animation is worse than TCW. Disney is rich they have to excuse for poor animation. Also it seemed much more corny. I really wish they didn't cancel TCW for something inferior. I don't like the Ewoks so no Ewok movie for me.

Also remember if you watch shows on T.V, the more who watch the higher the ratings. If people stop watching ratings go down. If its low enough it will get canceled. If its canceled and they know why people didn't like it they may make a show that a lot of people want.

Everything from here on out is canon, unless otherwise stated.

Everyone's responses here are correct. You are under no obligation to watch them, you are not required to enjoy them, and your Star Wars experience will not suffer one bit for having not done so.

Honestly, you also have nothing to lose by trying them, other than your time. All are ridiculously cheesy, aimed at very young viewers, and are best enjoyed when not taken at all seriously. The Droids and Ewoks cartoons can be watched on YouTube; I don't know where you'd find the Ewok TV movies but I'm sure they're out there somewhere. Taken in the right frame of mind, they might make you smile.

Like PF, I'd suggest perhaps giving them a chance (yes, Cushy has seen them). It sometimes makes me shake my head that so many may well miss out on potential enjoyment because they listen to the 'loudest' voices saying only 'thus and such' is awesome and 'that sucks!' I have highly uncommon stances and tastes and I am not ashamed of it. Only by trying something does one know how one truly feels about something.

I asked for the DVD of the two Ewok movies as a Christmas present. Found them definitely worth the time (and it shed a lot of light on where much of the info in The Illustrated Star Wars Universe was coming from).

Indeed. I've always liked how Kevin J. Anderson used the Gorax to explain why Ewoks build their villages in trees. Which, oddly enough, they actually didn't do in the Ewok movies themselves so far as I remember.

Anyway, I just checked Amazon and they have one copy left in stock of the Ewok two-film DVD, currently selling for the princely sum of $149.99. Yikes! I'm happy to have found a copy at Walmart six or seven years ago for a much more manageable $9.99.

There are goats and chickens on Endor. Definitely necessary to watch.

Really, though, nobody is going to mind if you don't.

Wow - had no idea these two Ewoks tele-films were going for that much $ - amazing. I got my double-sided DVD set back in Fall 2004 @ Best Buy, also for about $10 - quite a bargain, considering how much this is going for now.

These two Ewok movies & the excellent & underrated Droids/Ewoks cartoons need to all be put on Blu - none of these are easily available these days, and putting them on home video will go a long way to making them accessible for older & newer fans. The Droids/Ewoks cartoons have never been available in a home video format - in their entirety......

I bought the movies and the Droids and Ewoks cartoons on DVD when they came out just to "complete" my Star Wars collection. Really, they're all just terrible, but they are Star Wars so.....

Did he also explain away the traps used to take down AT-STs as Gorax-traps? Because that makes a lot more sense than them rigging up the rolling avalanche and the two log-smashers overnight. Luring the walkers to pre-set Gorax-traps seems more logical.

Anyhoo... I watched the Ewoks cartoon and the Ewok movies as a kid. I couldn't get into Droids, tho; I liked the fantasy aspect of the Ewok cartoon and had enjoyed the Ewoks in the film... seeing cartoony 3PO & R2 seemed 'wrong', since they were droids and shouldn't be so squishy, and the characters just bugged me...never liked the idea of them bouncing around from master to master before ANH.

And although now "Alien3" has been used as a verb for screwing over the happy ending of the previous film, Lucas beat them to the punch with Ewoks: The Battle For Endor by killing all the Towanis but Cindel pretty early in the film...a trick he used again with Chris Claremont in the book sequels to Willow, killing about half the characters (and half the world) with some crazy cataclysm at the end of the prologue/first chapter (Fin Raziel, Mad Martigan, Sorsha, maybe more are all dead)

It's SW. It all deserves a watch through/read through/etc at least once. Don't like it? Cool but you really should watch it at least once. You never know, you might really like it.

When? and Where? Wanting to get them for myself.

    No obligation, certainly.

I'm watching the first episode of Droids on YouTube right now as a result of this thread, and it's moderately entertaining, in a hilariously terrible fashion. It's good to hear Anthony Daniels doing some old school Threepioing, and hearing the 80s synth soundtrack juxtaposed with Star Wars sound effects is amusing.

Makes me wonder, though - why didn't Lucasfilm produce an animated series featuring the rest of the OT characters back in the 80s? It seems like a no-brainer, commercially speaking. The show might have made it past 13 episodes if it hadn't focused on the droids and excluded everyone else. If they were gonna do a tight focus on two characters, a show about Han and Chewie smuggling cargo around the galaxy in the Falcon would surely have been cooler.
