Am I the only one that cried :)

Seriously. I just finishing watching the ROTJ DVD and the energy that the end created was just so....awesome. The muisc....the joy..I held it in. Then when Hayden appeared...I lost it. My love and respect for this film has increased high. I don't see this film that often. Having a love for film, I get something out of films that most don't. Am I the only one that cried?? :D

    TLJ Edit: See last post

No, i never cried. I was actually hoping some Imperial remnants might crash a few Star Destroyers into the planet and kill all the Ewoks and Rebels.

I didn't cry but but it was BREATHTAKING! The addition of Naboo! The updated visuall effects on the other planets and seeing young Anakin's Spirit. I think young Anakin makes it a lot easier for Luke to identify with. I assume he now imagined his father looking like that when he was his age in ANH. I watched the whole credits as well.

This is the greatest Trilogy ending with honourable mentions to the Back Of The Future Trilogy and the Indiana Jones Trilogy.

I hate young Anakin ghost he looks too cocky and isn't even looking in the same direction as Obi-Wan and Yoda. And it looks to out of place I hope they either add Ewan in the next release or remove Hayden! But I like Naboo in the end and the Jedi Temple being added in Coruscant.

    Ciao!

I've never understood the argument that Alec Guinness' spirit should be replaced by Ewan McGregor - if that's the case, Ewan will have to play Obi-Wan's ghost and voice in all three OT movies ... which will lead to him digitally replacing Alec Guinness' whole performance in ANH, as you can't have Alec playing him, and then when he dies, have Ewan's voice ...

Jedi spirits aren't meant to be literal, it's a spritual idea - they're the image of the identity of the soul. Obi-Wan never turned to the Dark Side, so his pure, good soul is the way he appeared when he died. Anakin's pure, good soul appears as the good, kind, compassionate young man he once was, not a twisted, mangled, burnt man with no arms and legs.

While replacing old Anakin with a young Anakin makes sense exchanging Obi Wan clearly wouldn't. Just rewatch the Dagobah scene with Luke talking to Obi Wan's Spirit to see it makes perfect sense. Obi Wan clearly says Anakin died when he was young. I see the unmasking scene as a final dialogue saved up by young Anakin's Spirit deep down in his mind he keep in himself for all those years, though he didn't know about his children. He just sensed something.

It's a very emotional, final scene. Even after dozens of times I still get all mushy. :p Anakin's return has become so powerful thanks to AOTC and the foreshadowing of Episode 3, that scene just weighs in more and more each time I watch it.
If they hadn't replaced the "yub yub" song it wouldn't even be half as powerful, though IMO.

i have no problem with the changes made at the end...in fact, i like it better this way...the change to hayden makes sense...anakin was that age when he fell to the dark side, and anakin was no more, so why would the 'ghost' of anakin be the older one?

    on a different note:

there is a fellow star wars fan that goes by US_of_Tatooine that underwent a 10 hour operation today (friday)...i still have no word on how he is doing, but myself and LadyZaraMarta have created a thread for other star wars fans to post their well wishes for US when he comes back. i encourage each and every single one of you to post, it will be greatly appreciated. lets make sure that US has plenty to read upon his return! i have been told he will be hospitalized for quite some time...you can post your well wishes at:

Nope. But that's just because I'm used to it. But Naboo, the Temple, and Hayden gave me a whole surge of emotion. It's gonna be GREAT when I get to see all 6 :D

I used to cry...but now when Hayden's face appears, it totally rips me out of the moment. A pity too since this used to be an awesome ending for me.

Dude! Man, I didn't know they added Naboo into the celebration at the end! That's awesome! I'll watch for that when my brother and I do the marathon next Christmas.

But crying? Not of the Jedi, but of the King. When the Fellowship was reunited at the end, and they all bowed to the hobbits, I just couldn't hold in the bloody tears. NO other movie will likely ever have that effect. I'll have to wait until I see the RotJ DVD, though. All those changes have me intrigued.

I cried two time the first time I saw RotJ. First was when Master Yoda died (he's my favorite character), and again when Anakin died. I cried over Anakin because, even at 6, I "knew" that was gonna be the last Star Wars movie.

The addition of Naboo is great. As for the Jedi Temple and the Senate... well Imperial And Vader's Palace would've been better.

As for Hayden... well, just terrible. Anyway, the movie is so good, that Hayden being there doesn't throw it all away. Shaw had much more personality.

Besides that, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think in previous versions the camera went to Obi-Wan first, then he looked down to Yoda, and then both of them looked slightly up to see Anakin, rather than Anakin just appearing...

[[I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels exactly the same way about his grin. Shaws presence and smile and demeanor were perfect and I don't think it should have been changed at all.

BTW, I don't cry but I come very close.]]

That's interesting - when I saw RotK the first few times, I had the same reaction, too - no movie has ever made me cry as much as that. The moment that most made me cry was Sam carrying Frodo up Mount Doom, but that's a digression ... when I've watched the film since, I've realised how cheesy some of those final RotK scenes are, lol!!! :D Nothing wrong with cheese, of course, but that scene with the Fellowship reunited, with all the soft lighting, slow motion and lack of sound effects - emotional manipulation of the highest order. However, I'm not going criticise that too much, as I think that, after 12 hours of fantastic cinema, it really needed a moment like that, and the end of the film would have felt lacking without that, given the friendship between those characters.

I suppose that's where SW is so different to LotR film-wise - SW is emotional in a much more subtle way, and it doesn't dwell on things too much. Imagine how Peter Jackson would have handled Anakin leaving his mother in TPM, or the end celebration in RotJ, using his LotR-style - it'd be very different indeed. What always amazes me about what Jackson did was creating such an emotional attachment to characters who are, essentially, very flat, two-dimensional characters - if you read the books, to me, there aren't many truly interesting or complex characters in there - the only one really complex is Gollum. But Jackson did an amazing job of fleshing them out and making you care for them. But the ending of RotJ still does bring tears to my eyes, simply by seeing all of those characters there again at the very end - that fact alone is enough to make it emotional. I'm hoping the ending of RotS will be similarly emotional, although of course, it'll be in a very different way.

ROTK and M:R didn't give me any emotional reaction, especially not ROTK- which I thought was very flawed.

ROTJ on the other hand had a perfect ending and now it has an even bigger emotional binding to all six movies.
