The one thing that bothers me is that it appears to me, from an unspoiled POV, of course, to lack the double-entendres of all the other titles.

Still, it may grow on me yet...! ;)

Too bad there's no "I have to think about it first." option.

When I first heard Phantom Menace, I thought it was a lame title. But as I thought about it, it started to work for me. Now, I think it's the second best title of the bunch.

So - only time will tell if AotC will follow the same pattern.

It's not bad. I'm sure there are a million other more dramatic choices he could have made, but as has been pointed out elsewhere on these boards... take the title "The Empire Strikes Back" out of all context and look at it for what it is. Pulp sci-fi cheese. It's only in the context of the film itself that the title begins to take on weight. I'm just hoping that AOTC ends up having a strong enough, compelling enough story to add that sort of weight to its title.

BUT... I have a feeling that we're seeing a bit of a mirror image of the OT title progression here. The first film is named for the new element introduced into the ongoing conflict which becomes the driving force for the trilogy (The Phantom Menace for the PT, A New Hope for the OT), the second film is named for an escalation of the conflict established in the first film (Attack Of The Clones for the PT, The Empire Strikes Back for the OT) and then, if the Episode III title holds to this pattern, the third film is named for the resolution of that particular conflict... we saw this with Return Of The Jedi with Anakin's redemption and Luke's maturing as a full Jedi, and I assume we'll see something similar in a few years with Episode III where Anakin ultimately falls to the Dark Side. If Lucas REALLY wants to mirror the OT, where ROTJ as a title referred to both Anakin and Luke, perhaps Episode III will refer to "Hidden" something. Because not only will we have the twins and the remaining Jedi hiding from the Emperor, but also Anakin Skywalker as a persona will end up "hidden" deep within the twisted heart of Darth Vader.

We shall see. For now, though, I can live with Attack Of The Clones.

    Yay! Someone else likes AOTC!!!!!

Yah, isn't it weird... TESB is the 2nd movie in the OT, and is a cheesy sci-fi title, and AOTC is the 2nd movie in the PT and is a cheesy sci-fi title.

At least The Empire Strikes Back has got a nice satisfyingly solid ring to it. Attack Of The Clones just sounds wishy-washy.

Actually, I don't know if I even care anymore, Episode 2 is in all probablilty going to be crap. I'm probably not even going to see it at this point.

"The one thing that bothers me is that it appears to me, from an unspoiled POV, of course, to lack the double-entendres of all the other titles."

Actually, ESB is pretty straight-forward in meaning too. But "Attack of..." just doesn't have any place in the title of a SW movie. This is the first really bad thing I've heard about the movie, though, and it's not all that important, so I still have high hopes. And this could be a joke (please!)!

I think a lot of the reason for that satisfyingly solid ring is the fact that for more than 20 years we've associated that title with a satisfyingly solid movie.

At this point we not only have no solid film experience with which to breathe life into the title Attack Of The Clones, but many of us also have some doubts about how solid AOTC will actually end up being based on our feelings about TPM. I'm certainly not wowed by the title, but I'm willing to give it a chance and see if the film itself is good enough to give it the added weight that ESB has had for the past two decades.

I don't understand how someone can say "Attack of..." does not belong in a Star Wars title. We've only seen 4 movie titles before now (unless you count books and comics). Yes, it's different...so?

"I'm probably not even going to see it at this point."

...but I think I'll hang around in a star wars forum... no, but seriously... the only reason ESB sounds right to everyone is because we've been conditioned to it for more than 20 years. I really don't see how Attack of the Clones is significantly different. Personally, I love it. And don't judge a book by its cover as the saying goes. A title becomes classic because the movie itself is so good. A pretentious title only points out how pretentious a movie is. This is why a movie without lofty ideals or title like "The Thing" or "Star Wars" becomes classic and "Star Trek V: Where No Man Has Gone Before" and "Battle Beyond the Stars" are swiftly and justly forgotten. As for those who claim to be sickened or "appalled" by 'Attack of the Clones,' you're already on pretty shaky ground there aintcha?

It is the best movie title of all time.

All the other movies are getting jealous because of my great name.

It sounds like the title of an Ed Wood movie where all of the characters wear matching white skin-tight body suits. How about "Attack of the Killer Clones"

Imagine being around for the announcement of the title "The Empire Strikes Back"?

Is that any less cheesy than "Attack of the Clones"?

I think the new title fits well with the saga as a whole, much better, I think, that "The Phantom Menace"

It fits in with the other titles pretty well, I'm sure it will make more sense in May 2002. I don't really like the use of the word attack, but I'll get used to it. "Wanna watch Attack of the Clones or The Empire Strikes Back?" Sounds good. I like it.

The only thing I don't like is the clones part. Seriously I had hoped that there would be as little clones as possible, now I don't believe that anymore.

I've been looking around the net and seeing a lot of Talk Back crap about the recent announcement. I don't see what everyone is crying about. To anyone saying "Attack Of the Clones" is too B-Movie-ish... What about "New Hope", "Empire", & "Jedi"?!?!? B-Movie sub-titles never hurt the original trilogy. Plus, B-movies aren?t all bad... rent a Troma flick and then try and complain to me. Anyway, I LIKE the title. It is very much in keeping with the other sub-titles. Lets remember, the title "Phantom Menace" (In my worthless opinion, the most questionable title to date) didn't ruin Episode 1... Annoying characters like Jar-Jar and trite lines like "Yip-pee!" killed that movie. There is !!!NOTHING!!! wrong with "Attack of the Clones"! I have a lot of hope from Episode 2, but if it turns out to suck... How bout we wait till the movie is RELEASED to slit our collective wrists!!!

Since the second movie leads to the Clone Wars, I can understand the title to an extent. But still, can't they have thought of a better title? I mean one that'll grab the attention of the audience and have reference to the coming Clone Wars. Also, the timing's rather right, since there's a whole lot of controversy over cloning gong on right now.
