In the film, Zam says "I hit the ship but they used a decoy". However, it's never really clear in the film what that means. I suppose there are two possibilities....

    1) She planted some sort of bomb on the ship. If the bomb had a timer it would have likely exploded while they were in space. It's also possible that she remote detonated a bomb when she saw the ship land and visually verified seeing the queen.

    2) The other possibility is that she used some sort of weapon and fired on the ship after it had landed. It was a foggy day, so she could have been in any of the surrounding buildings. Also, I wouldn't imagine that an assasin's shot would fire a tracer round or would be a big bright lazer that would show where the shot came from. So, she could pretty much fire from anywhere close by and stay undetected.

In either case, it seems likely that Zam was closeby during the Attack and probably watched the events. Even if it was a bomb, a remote detonator seems to make the most sense (that is assuming she's not watching the landing on a monitor like that freak from Speed). Strange that George didn't put in a shot of her leaving the scene ... I guess it's a dramatic move so that the audience doesn't know who attacked her, but we find out in ten minutes anyway!

Does the novel say anything about this?

The answer is actually much more simple than you make it out to be. Jango wants Padme dead. Zam is working for Jango. Zam is reporting back to Jango. In her report, she correctly tells him that she hit Padme's ship, but Padme is not dead. Why is Padme not dead? They used a decoy senator.

Windy, I understand that she's giving a report.

I'm just curious as to what method was used to attack Padme's ship. It exploded. Was a bomb on it or did Zam shoot at it? Also, I just think it's interesting that Zam was there during those events and we never saw her ;)

    Windy has is correct here.
I read the novel a few weeks before watching the film. I don't remember any mention of Zam's exact methods but it could have been there I just don't remember.

It really does not matter how she blew the ship, the fact is that she did it. They did use a decoy and she tells Jango all of this.

Guys, I understand that it is a minor point ... that's why I want to talk about it on a Star Wars board!

It's a fair question because we see the ship explode onscreen, and I want to know why it exploded. "I hit the ship" doesn't really say what the method was and I'm curious how assassins operate in the sw universe.

If you have nothing to contribute, don't post ;)

The thing is that no one knows the exact answer because it has never been written or explained therefore no one should post and therefore by your own logic discussion is over and the thread should be locked.

    That's a decent post.....

You think that there is no official info as to what caused the ship to explode. That's helpful. That's what I want to find out, as well as people's ideas. Believe me, I'm not looking for an EU explanation if that's what you're afraid of.

However, there's no need to attack the thread. People have discussed far worse ... I recall a discussion about teleporting that went on for 8 pages!

Start with this simple question Seldon:
Do YOU think that Zam was somewhere close to the pad when the ship was attacked? If so, why? If not, why not?

    Discuss ;)

    I must have mis-understood.
However there is no mention of this in the AOTC novel.

I always thought the bomb was inside the landing platform itself, not the ship. It makes sense that Zam would be nearby to remote-detonate it when she saw the ship land.
