Well, this is what I had to say. The reference is to OzHaggis who posted that the test was "horse-hockey"....

I wholeheartedly agree with Oz. I think that the whole test was a sham. I think that it was more a test of education and life experience than intelligence !! I think it is also influenced by ratings. Theoretically, the older people would know more of the answers. They have been around longer and would have heard of more words and their meanings. They should also do well in the social part. But, I don't think that they should have their scores adjusted up!! If anything, to balance it out, they should adjust it down. But I think that they have done that because the ratings usually reflect that quizes and competitions are watched more often by older people.

Aparently it was the most widely watched show at that time which proves my point. If they are going to do some follow up TV series (heaven forbid), the old people who apparently did really well, will watch it for sure. Guarenteed ratings.

So, I think that a young person who hasn't been very well educated would do very poorly in the test, whereas a slightly older person who has had tertiary learning would do very well. For example, he didn't say his score, but I would bet that Oz did really well. As far as I know, he has Uni qualifications and some life experience.

In short, the whole thing is bogus. And detrimental to society !! What if people do go around thinking that they are stupid or super smart or whatever. What about husbands and wives that did it together? They even said that it was weighted toward men, so is that to stop domestic violence? And if it was weighted toward men, why not other demographics that affect ratings ??

Pah. The whole thing just makes me

The IQ tests rarely reflect the actual intelligence. I know people who have IQ's of 132, who wouldn't be classified as smart. My Ex has a very very low IQ (86), but she scored 99 on her HSC. I sat down with Mum to watch the IQ test show, we didn't have a score card, and couldn't be bothered to actually do it properly, but the questions that i saw ( i went off and started watching LOTR 15 minutes into the questions) were too damn easy.

And if you did really well, they suggested that you join Mensa. Now I don't know about you, but I'd heard about Mensa, but have no idea what it is. I had a look at their web site and this is what I found out....

You'll find all sorts of people in Mensa. But Mensans worldwide have one thing in common ? they're bright.

Mensa is an international society with only one criterion for membership ? a score on a standardised IQ test higher than that of 98 per cent of the general population.

So no matter what you think or how you vote, why not consider joining us? We're always on the lookout for new members to further enrich our diversity of abilities, interests and opinions.

    Mental and social stimulation
If you enjoy brain-teasers, stimulating articles and lively exchanges of views, you'll appreciate TableAus, our monthly magazine, which incorporates the Mensa International Journal. If you like to discuss world problems or the latest in science and technology, you're sure to find like-minded people at a Mensa event. Perhaps you just want to relax and exchange repartee with others who'll get your jokes and add their own quips. [face_laugh] Many find Mensa a welcome relief.

Mensa offers opportunities to meet people, exchange ideas and make new friends at your intellectual level. Quick minds are welcomed; instant communication and comprehension are the rule rather than the exception.

Scary, ain't it. It sounds like a huge nerdfest !! I mean even more geeky than a Fan Force NSW meet !! Oh.... did I say that out loud ?? ;)

Less than half my age !!

And the fact that you know what a square root is, IG, means your IQ points just went up by 30 !!
