Last year when two of my best friends were planning their wedding, we kept discussing all the things they would do for their wedding if it were just friends instead of family. They still pushed back a bit. Their first dance song was "If I Didn't Have You" from Juno. During the dinner music, they slipped in "Still Alive" from Portal.

Another girl I knew surprised her husband by having the SW theme be their recessional.

Personally, I decided in this time that I really want my first dance song to be "The Most Beautiful Girl in the Room" by Flight of the Conchords. Really. I just wonder if I'd be able to go through with it. But really, it's quite fitting, so.

Have any of you ever encountered awesome wedding songs? Or what would you use for yours?

One I can think of that would be good for anyone is The Beatles All You Need Is Love. Personally, I can't think of any that would work for me because I'm never, never going to get married.

I've always wanted Hey by The Pixies to play on my wedding.

Also The Ballad of Chasey Lain, by The Bloodhound Gang, but that might be a tad more difficult.

We walked in to the reception to the Imperial March (it was the only SW thing I was allowed).

We also had Queen's wedding march play, and the first dance was the band playing Lou Reed's Perfect Day.

See, Perfect Day will always remind me of that brilliant OD scene in Trainspotting, so I feel like this would be a really weird first dance to me :p

Since my father has composed a wedding march that is a given for the march. I would also love to have someone sing Bei Männern welche Liebe fühlen fromt he Magic Flute, since that is the ultimate love song for me.

My sister used "You and Me" from Lifehouse for their first dance. In the extremely unlikely event it would be required, I'd be more likely to go for "Everything" (although I was the one that suggested YaM to them).

My brother recommended "One Crowded Hour" from Augie March. Not exactly an appropriate song, but unsurprising if you knew my brother.

I think it would almost have to be tongue-in-cheek on the part of the couple for it to be a good wedding song. A hell of a lot of love songs (or those misinterpreted as love songs) are sad or bitter or otherwise not truly appropriate for two people who supposedly want to spend their lives together. ...Or maybe that's just the love songs I listen to.

    Now that is awesome.

Dingo: I was going to mention "You and Me". Love that song.

We've been married awhile, our 16th anniversary is Friday; a lot of the good wedding songs now, didn't exist then. We had Pachelbel's Canon, Trumpet Voluntary and Trumpet Tune by Purcell at the ceremony and our first dance was the Aladdin theme song "A Whole New World."

Other good ones: "I Swear" by All-4-One and "Grow Old With Me" by Mary Chapin Carpenter (written by John Lennon). My brother and his wife had "Crazy Love" by Van Morrison.

My sister and her husband did their first dance to The Luckiest by Ben Folds, which I thought was really sweet.

I don't get why Most Beautiful Girl in the Room would be so fitting? Since it's only about physical attraction and getting hit on at a party, not really everlasting love two partners in a marriagey type stuff.

At my wedding my wife surprised me by having my nephew play the Star Wars theme on his trumpet. It was pretty cool. Bryan Adams Every Thing I Do has been at every wedding I have ever been to including my own.

I don't know of any woman who wouldn't like to be compared to a part-time model or a high-class prostitute.

Can't Help Falling In Love With You, by Elvis.

If in doubt, return to the classics.

We had Nothing Else Matters by Metallica. Leaving the church we had the Imperial March as well. Good times.
