For all of you BTTF fans who are purchasing the DVD set, post your reactions to what you think of it here.

I myself cannot wait to get my hands on it, but I must wait until Christmas morning to open it as a present. So, I am anxious to hear what other people think. :D

I saw it in the store today, and it was a very good price, only $43! But I didn't buy it. Why? Well, I live in Canada, and since the French are insecure people, they demand that everything be written in both languages. Now they are doing it to my DVDs as well, since they can play both languages. I'm sure it also saves the company the cost of printing two separate labels, and I can understand that.

This is only a recent thing on DVDs. For the most part the french title is written underneath the english title in a non-assuming font, most of the time in brackets. But what bothers me is the way that the Back To The Future set is done, is that the french logo is plastered at 1/3 the size of the english one and it is done in holofoil. It is SUCH an eyesore to the point that the package was ugly enough not to buy. So I didn't. I guess that seems really petty of me. I don't hate the french. Je suis parle francais un petit peu. But if I wanted the french DVD I'd buy it in Quebec. I'm sure there's some guy in Quebec who hates having to buy DVDs with English titles on them.

Anyways, I just wanted to rant about that, it's no big deal. I'll be buying the trilogy of Amazon.com however. (With my luck they'll see I live in Canada and send me the french packaging version anyways.)

I know this may be a dumb question...but...

Are there any additional scenes added?

Each film has deleted scenes, but they are not added back into the film, thankfully. (If only George would get the hint.)

I probably have to wait until after Christmas to get mine. I ordered it from Amazon.com and it just shipped today...I think it'll arrive on the 24th if I am really lucky (which I'm not).

I know Im gonna get it or our family is...Back to the Future has been a movie that we have watched over and over that our VHS is getting worn out. I am really sad that there is no comentary with Steven Spielburg, even though he and Robert Zemicks were the people who spent the most work in it..Though, the outakes which 2 I have seen, look REALLY funny!

One of the biggest DVD releases of the year hit stores on Tuesday, but the three-disc set of the Back to the Future movies has a little problem that Universal doesn't want you to know about (until February 2003, at least). The anamorphic widescreen transfers on Back to the Future II and Back to the Future III were framed improperly, which means that elements in the picture that should be visible are cropped out.

Now, the studio is aware of this problem, and there will be a replacement program in effect starting in February, but that information isn't being made readily available for the people headed down to the store to fork out $40-$50 for the three-disc set. Thankfully, some store employees have smartened up and are telling customers about the problem, but Universal still has a multi-million dollar advertising campaign in effect for the release. They want as many copies to be sold through Christmas as possible, and then in February those people who bought the messed up DVDs will be able to send the discs to the studio for replacement copies.

This isn't an isolated problem with just a small amount of the shipment affected. Every copy of BTTF 2 and BTTF 3 on store shelves is affected by the bad framing. Everyone who buys the set will have the "defective" DVDs.

Our pal Bill over at The Digital Bits got his hands on the email that Universal is sending to people who ask them about the problems:

"Thank you for your email. Universal Studios will exchange Back to the Future parts 2 and 3 for copies with the updated framing in late February 2003. You may send the DVDs back now or wait until February. Please send Back to the Future disks 2 and 3, without the case, and a letter with the following information: Name, Full Mailing Address, Daytime Phone Number, Reason for Return and Return Address. Send to:

Back to the Future DVD Returns
    PO Box 224468
    Dallas, Texas 75260

    Thank you,
    Universal Studios Customer Service"

Also on the Bits is a little comment on how Universal has decided to not send review copies of new discs out to most DVD sites. That is why you did not see a review of the set up on IGN before the release date - we had to go down to the store and buy it just like you on Tuesday. We'll have a review of the set up very shortly, but buyer beware...

That's pretty bad, if you ask me. They know about the problem but would rather continue to seel the defective discs and have users have to pay to ship them back than to be up front about it and have users happy with the warning. Ah, customer service. [face_plain]

Actually, they've known about it ever since the R4 version came out. Despite the months of complaints and such, it's interesting that it takes about a single day of R1 buyers complaining to get Universal off their collective rear. Nice way to treat your international customers.

I got my BTTF DVDs on Thursday! I've watched one and two so far and I'm very pleased at the quality of these discs...dispite the fact that part of picture was chopped off of BTTF Part II. All in all great DVDs.

On a side...did anyone else catch Elijah Wood in BTTF II? He's one of the kids in the Café 80s with the video game...I saw his big blue eyes and was like..."Is that?!" And I watched the credits and sure enough...our favorite hobbit is in BTTF! :p
