I thought I'd do a thread that covers the various background characters that enrich the world of Solo. Rio Durant, voiced by Jon Favreau. Argus "Six Eyes" Panox Therm Scissorpunch, seems to be a Cronenberg's The Fly crossed with a lobster The Beed and Fode of Solo, may be they'll call them Shrimpy Two Heads. Could that be Opun Mcgrrrr at the bar with his back turned towards camera?
I really hope all of the aliens from the Denny’s commercial appear in the film. Guy with ram horns Saw nosed card player Beaked throat singer
Yes really hyped for beaked throat singer, personally hoping they keep that as the main soundtrack during the Sabacc game sequence! The saw nosed throat singer is apparently a Vulptereen, which is a deep Prequel cut. He is also visible in promotional materials from the set so it’s a good bet he’ll feature in the movie. There is talk that both a Gotal and a Tognath are members of the Cloud Rider gang and visible in some promo materials. For those like me hoping for as many recurring alien species as possible.. RO did background characters to perfection! There were at least 50 + fantastic designs... TFA and TLJ on the other hand literally no-one of interest (Well, the KOR were interesting for the second we saw them) Here's hoping Solo brings back the cool background characters!
Vulptereen, Tognath and Gotal? I really hope that’s all true! Now I just have to wait 30 years for Hasbro to make every background alien a 3.75” figure....
Oh yes!!! The creature characters not only looked interesting, had interesting back stories but they interacted with the human characters and weren't just all set dressing..
New trailer had a bunch of the Denny’s aliens at the cars table with Lando. Lobster is a player Saw beak singer at bar behind Qi’Ra Still looking for Ram horns
Son of a blaster.... Oh jeez does this mean Evazan and Ponda Baba might be in this film too? Are all anthology films secretly about those two on the run??
I'm going to have to agree with you. I was pretty underwhelmed, even somewhat disappointed, with the designs and the presence of many of the background characters in TFA and TLJ (I know, I know, talk about being super nitpicky...). While there were a couple of designs/characters I enjoyed, it was a real bummer at the near lack of OT and PT aliens. I understand where many are coming from with general arguments of "well, it's a large galaxy, and the films are set in certain areas where it doesn't necessarily make sense to see prior aliens..." or "people complain about this being a small galaxy enough already, why would we want to see familiar aliens...". I can agree to a certain extent with these sentiments, but based on what we've previously seen in the OT, PT, TCW, books/comics, it still baffles me at the lack of certain species, like Rodians, Twi'leks, or Ithorians, for instance. They're not on the same scale as humans, but these species seem to be pretty ubiquitous throughout the galaxy, and it would be nice to see a few of them in the backgrounds somewhere. And if not, cool, whatever, do your own thing, it is a big galaxy, but I found many of the designs in TFA and TLJ to be somewhat uninspired. I, too, was pretty happy with RO, though.
I personally would love it if Dr. Evazen & Ponda Baba cameo again in Solo now that Tam Posla is confirmed as recurring. It would actually give more meaning to their appearance in RO. Hilarious recurring nano-plot. Plus It would brilliantly setup the New Hope special edition where Tam Posla is digitally inserted into the cantina scene and shown to slash first instead of Obi-Wan. Maybe Tam Posla will have some decent screen time in Solo. It's the current avatar of designer Glyn Dillon's Instagram account. https://www.instagram.com/glyn__dillon/?hl=en
I love that big, blue eyeball dude in the dingy cantina. Cartoony and ridiculous. Reminds me of something from Trap Door (anyone who's a child of the 80s and 90s in the UK knows what I mean).
Absolutley RO really nailed it with background characters. Maybe even with some of the best in the entire saga. So far Solo looks like its also tapping in to same feel too.
