Shadowrun in Development for the Xbox 360.

I have worked on many projects, ranging from PC games to console, FPS to role-playing. Right now, I am animating for an Xbox 2 project called Shadowrun. It's a first-person shooter based on an old paper RPG of the same name from a couple decades ago.

Damn, whatever excitement I would have recieved from this news was killed by those magic letters, "FPS". Don't get me wrong, I like a good FPS as much as the next guy. But with a game system as rich and developed as Shadowrun you don't dumb it down and turn it into a shooter. There was alot more to Shadowrun then just shooting guns. On the plus side Troika Games won't be developing it. What MS needs is more RPG's not shooters and Shadowrun would have been a nice entry into that genere. This sucks. :(

Could be RPG/shooter such as Deus Ex or Bloodlines.

Thats what I'm afraid of. The game world will be to small and limiting, not to mention linear. Unless they are planning on making a huge Morrowind style game. There are so many classes and possibilities. A true RPG would be able to accommodate them and a variety of play styles. Whereas a FPS/RPG like Dues Ex still has a narrow scope despite the ability to customize your character.

And just look at what M$ did to FASA's other property, Mechwarrior. They dumbed it down and made a straight shooter. I wouldn't be surprised if thats what we will be getting. :(

Sorry if it's not a good question to ask, but what's "Shadowrun"?

One of the best games from the 16 bit era released on the Genesis. The SuperNES had a Shadowrun game aswell but it paled in comparison. Shadowrun was a cross between Lord Of The Rings and Cyberpunk(The Matrix). In the near future where Corporations are the goverment, magic returns to the world and causes many changes. With the arrival of magic the Native Indian tribes used their new power to regain much of their land, leaving North America fragmented. You had Elves and Orcs running around with submachine guns, decked out with cybernetic implants. Dragons runnig crime syndicates, people jacking into cyberspace and hacking computer systems. Shadowrunners were the dregs of society that would do questionable jobs for anonymous employers called "Mr. Johnsons". Jobs would be anything from "Corporte Extractions" (Breaking into a corporation to free a valuable company employer who is defecting to the competition), Data Recoverery, assasinations, ect.

    There were various classes:

Street Samurai: The hired gun, fighter, brawler

    Decker: Computer hacker

Rigger: Mechanic who would drive/fix vehicles and machines

    Street Shamon: Tribal magic user

    Mage: Wizard

And some more that I'm probably missing.

I loved that game, think I might have to dust off my Genesis.

..yeah, Shadowrun is truly one of the most underrated 'classics' of the 16 bit era..

I also agree that turning it into an FPS really seems like... a bad idea.

I used to love the Nintendo version of Shadowrun. I hope they don't mess up the new game if they try to make it into a FPS since that would gloss over so many elements of the series.
