I'm confused. In Ep I, Typho says that some senator from Malastaire and Bail Antilles from Alderan have also been nominated for Supreme chancellor. In Ep II, we know the senator from Alderan is Bail Organa. Is this the same person? On the OS, only Wedge is listed with the last name Antilles. Does that mean that Wedge and Leia are related through adoption?

Also, in ANH, 3PO says that his last master was Captain Antilles, not Captain Organa. I also read that in an early version of the stories, Captain Antilles and Bail Organa work together to get the rebellion started. So, when I heard Typho say "Bail Antilles" I got confused.

Does anyone know these characters enough to tell me if they are meant to be different people or the same person who just happen to have the same first name and be from the same planet both serving as senators? Or was this just a mistake in Ep I?

They are two different people. Bail Antilles and Bail Organa.

IIRC, the Official Site had the answer to your question a while back...I cant get the link just yet, though.

Essentially, Bail is a common name on Alderaan.

There was ascene and a character cut from TPM where Bail Antilles addresses the Senate and sets himself up as an opponent to Palpatine. I think GL must have wanted to hold the character over for AotC and leave Bail Organa as Palpatine's opponent.

Both Bail (first name) and Antilles (surname) are common in the SW universe and seem to be sme kind of equivalent of John Smith.

Below is what I have constructed from scripts and EU and stuff about the representation of Alderaan in the Galactic Senate.

I don't trust the information from the OS because it usually is wrong.

    ALDERAAN

    Aide (Unkown)

Possible aide to Viceroy Bail Organa.

    AGRIPPA ALDRETTE, Aide

Agrippa Aldrette was one of two aides to Viceroy Bail Organa and Senator Bail Antilles during the events surrounding the invasion of Naboo.

    BAIL ANTILLES, Senator

Bail Antilles was the Senator for the Alderaan System and represented the system along with his aides, Liana Merian and Agripa Aldrette, and the viceroy, Bail Organa. He was nominated to succeed Supreme Chancellor Valorum in the events surrounding the invasion of Naboo but lost out to Senator Palpatine of Naboo. By the time of the Clone Wars, Bail Antilles was no longer representing Alderaan.

BAIL ORGANA, Senator (former Viceroy and First Chairman)

During the Invasion of Naboo, Bail Organa pushed for the motion of ?No Confidence? in Supreme Chancellor Valorum; to be voted upon in the special hearing set up by the Supreme Chancellor for Queen Amidala of Naboo. The motion eventually removed Supreme Chancellor Valorum from office.

During the Clone Wars Bail Organa was part of the Loyalist Committee; a committee set up by Supreme Chancellor Palpatine to negotiate a treaty on behalf of the Confederacy and the Republic. He was wary on assigning Jedi to protect Senator Amidala of Naboo when she became to target of an assassination campaign.

When the Confederacy of Independent Systems began to amass large battalions of droids to attack the Republic, Bail Organa was wary to vote the Supreme Chancellor Emergency Powers but eventually gave in due to the increasing threat from the Confederacy.

In the years spanning the downfall of the Republic and the beginning of the tyrannical Empire, Senator Bail Organa was replaced by Senator Leia Organa, his adoptive daughter.

    LEIA ORGANA, Senator

In the years of the Empire, Senator Leia Organa represented Alderaan in the Imperial Senate. She often used her diplomatic immunity to disguise secret missions for the Rebel Alliance.

    LIANA MERIAN, Aide

Liana Merian was one of two aides to Viceroy Bail Organa and Senator Bail Antilles during the events surrounding the Invasion of Naboo.

Greedo_speedo, Typho isn't in TPM, it is his uncle, Panaka. Typho is the guy with the eye patch in AOTC.

Um, dudes, "Antillies" is just a common name in the SW universe, like "Smith" in our world. It was just a gag that I didn't pick up until fairly recently. Not worth an LOL though.
