A deep-lore thought experiment and thread where we can discuss potential ways of bringing back Palpatine AFTER Empire’s End. This is not a what-if thread, but a subject that will delve into Star Wars resurrection methods and whether it can work on good ol’ Cosigna Jr. Here are some ideas that I have formulated: A Marka Ragnos Cult like resurrection using his staff. Whatever arcane magic the renegade Prophets used to “resurrect” Darth Maul in Star Wars Tales (canon status aside) Whatever was used to “summon” the Dark Underlord from the Netherealm (assuming he is in fact a phantom and not some sort of ancient proto-Cronal, as I like to headcanon him as; a sham) These are but a few ideas I’ve had and I am very interested in what this board will have to say about this topic. Whether they can expand or exterminate the ideas I’ve floated, I’m very curious to see if we can bring back His Imperial Majesty.
Well for an rpg with friends we had Palpatine survive via creating some kind of phylactery, binding his soul to a ancient Sith relic, just like the old Dark Lords bound their souls to their graves. Palpatines original plan was for this phylactery to be brought to Byss so he could resurect there in a Cloned Body. Yet the transfer failed and the artifact got lost. Meaning the Dark Empire Palpatine was always just an insane Clone, like Mara believes, not the real deal. Only decades later would other dark siders find the relic and be able to commune with Palpatines soul inside, eventually paving the way for a proper resurection.
The Dark Underlord method is probably the best-its implied he was Xendor come back from Chaos. Part of the issue is a lot of dead Jedi are actively holding Palpatine down and preventing his return. I suspect that for that reason, and the fact you'd need some lost sith ritual, or other really occult technique to bring Palpatine back. I also suppose...maybe Palpatine could will his own return, overcome the Jedi spirits preventing it and storm back into the world of the living.
How many Horcruxes does Palpatine have anyway? The Telos Holocron, Sarcev Quest, Anakin Solo, Sate Pestage, Cronal probably, Mara Jade, Snoke...
When Abeloth died, the ripples of her demise weakened some of the boundaries of the Netherworld of the Force and Chaos. Breaking his chains in true Sith fashion, Darth Sidious escaped the grasp of the ten thousand Jedi he had destroyed and managed to reach the surface of the Lake of Apparitions. From there, he took possession of the body of the strongest surviving member of the Lost Tribe of the Sith. High Lord Takaris Yur
Palpatine manages to escape his darkside oblivion by escaping the force altogether. He cheats the power that binds the galaxy together, and it reborn...literally reincarnated...as a Yuuzhan Vong. The revelation of this escape from death is revealed to Luke...who begins a search. The young Vong does not not know who he was, and as a Vong, lacks an innate connection to the force...but visions...flickers of his previous life...haunt his dreams. Can the Jedi find this child before he discovers his identity? What would they do if they found him? Can the child recover his memories? If he does so, can he reassert his power over the Empire? Can he trick the force again and regain his darkside arts? The race is on.
Being brought back or resurrected from Chaos-either in some sort of spectral or demonic form(the dark under lord) or outright resurrection of the body(Krayt) is something that happens in SW. The actual mechanics of this are admittedly vague though. With krayt it was sheer will and a rebirth to achieve his destiny(or try too), with the under lord-IIRC it was a ritual or something? Maybe not. How can a Sith spirit return from Chaos? Do they need to have sufficient power? If so how? Is it a matter of fortitude or sheer will to live/complete unfinished business? Then surely it must happen more? Speaking purely from a watsonian perspective, the fact Palpatine never returned after DE despite being one of if not the strongest Sith who ever lived(it’s a toss up between him and Vitiate) would imply resurrection may come down to happenstance as much as anything a soul can do. From a Doylist PoV-it is to the EU’s credit that they didn’t treat Palpatine as a comic book villain that resurrects on the regular to trouble the heroes. DE happened and then he was done. But IU-the reason why he didn’t ever return I think comes down to personal preference and interpretation.
I mean the easiest way is just to say he actually just never died and the Palpatine on Endor was a clone too, maybe he forsaw Vader turning on him so he only send a clone...
Actually it's kinda funny to speculate about ways to resurrect Palps (for real) in Legends, after all the hate for TROS Gesendet von meinem TA-1053 mit Tapatalk
I remember thinking and speculating before the release of TROS, that the Emperor seen in ROTJ wasn't there in corporeal form but simply a powerful force projection. Able to use all of his force abilities Gesendet von meinem TA-1053 mit Tapatalk
Thank you. I think it could also have been a good way to explain the explosion, when Anakin threw him down the shaft to rescue his son. Gesendet von meinem TA-1053 mit Tapatalk
His body was already gone. His soul or spirit was explicitly stated to be imprisoned in the netherworld of the force.
There is some creativity of thought here, but often, the reasoning is "you didn't see what you thought you saw." Ultimately, I think it is more satisfying to assume Palpatine was destroyed at Endor, his attempt at resurrection was thwarted at Byss, and so on. There are other ways Palpatine could "return". Perhaps he doesn't actually come back from the dead? Instead, he bridges death and the living world? Haunts the galaxy from darksider hell?
The issue with this is well…souls exist in SW. part of the issue was the clone bodies degraded when they had Palpatine’s essence/spirit inside them. It is true the later Eu downplays DE-but the actual events of DE were one-never decanonized or retconned, and two-actually pretty well explained and sensible.
In the One Canon, I do place TROS after Empires End. I do that on the basis Palpatine's spirit escapes the clutches of Brand, but his cloning laboratories on Exegol aren't fully prepared. His original clone line was sabotaged on Byss, so he is trapped in a clone body for thirty years after Empire's End. Which adds a delightful dimension to the actions of the Second Imperium and Empire Reborn, I find.
Palpatine died because his Spirit was transferred to Empatojayos Brand Body and he died trapping Palpatine Spirit there is no Way Palpatine would have survived Dark Empire even In the Young Jedi Knights there were rumors that Palpatine would have survived but they were fake
I came up with an idea that Palpatine had fused a part of his soul with a super advanced surveillance and predictive AI that had the ability to monitor the entire galaxy and operate shipyards, fleets, droid armies from the unknown regions. Essentially its a cross between big brother and ghost stories. This AI could be the one manipulating the second imperium through holograms of darth sidious. I also like to immagine that it is responsible for the disapearance and the reaperance of the empire of the hand as it usurped whatever contigency plans thrawn had developped in case of his death. I could see a fun story where Ben Skywalker has to team up with a child of thrawn that was raised in secret by the female chiss admiral who vanished (Ar alani). Another idea is that Palpatine had partially teathered his soul to Anakin Solo when he briefly held a pregnant Leia pregnant in the first Dark Empire comic. His presence within Anakin's soul was more discreet when the latter was younger but Anakin's potential resurrection could weaken the jedi's hold on palpatine spirit and allow him to once more directly influence the galaxy. That said Palpatine would probably be forced to either trick anakin into willingly fusing his soul with his or find a way to drag the entire galaxy into the realm of chaos to fully return to full force. It also seems to me that the clone palpatine in both canon and legends did not come back exactly the same. Both had to a certain extent fused with somekind of eldritch abomination when they came back. Sidious believed he was all the sith in ROS and in DE he was under the impression that he had died before endor. I think there is a reason Plagueis looked down on essence transfer as a pathway to immortality. That reason could be that all the sith who had used essence transfer had unwittingly made themselves a pawn to a greater power and had loss a portion of their identity. I think its interesting that Palpatine's final death on byss was followed up the brief return of marka ragnos and exar kun. It is almost as if a greater power was trying to incarnate into the galaxy. Anyway i think that a returned palpatine would want to go beyond just conquering the galaxy again. He would most likely try to perform a ritual in unknown regions to gain mastery over the force itself and become a god. Ive seen a theory that the unknown regions is messed up because an ancient sith experiment over the force had gone wrong there.I cant help but think of the true sith as described by chris avellone. A resurrected Palpatine would want to continue in the footseps of these true sith. Its also possible that palpatine had started to invade other galaxies by having his secrets fleet travel through the unknown regions. Krayt is really interesting. For some reason Jacen saw him a big threat. Krayt also fulfilled Plagueis's dream when you think about it because he was able to physically resurrect himself and his body without using essence transfer. He also fufilled the vision of the one sith by unifiying an entire sith order to his singular will. I get the feeling that Krayt conquered the remnants of Palpatine's dark empire, meaning that he unified all the remaining darksiders that had served palpatine under his will. I would love to see a story where he manipulates Triclops and Ken Palpatine into giving him information that allowed to find all the remaining darksiders. I get the feeling that the prophets of the darkside served has the nucleus of the his one sith. because in a way Krayt succeeded where skere kaan failed with the brotherhood of the sith. Maybe Kadaan and other prophets of the darkside discovered krayt and started training him before they were wiped out by lumiya and carnor jax. I always wondered why the true prophets were wiped out. Was it Cronal or Sarcev quest who decided wiped out an order who could have warn Palpatine of an upcoming betrayal or was it Palpatine who wanted to get rid of an up and coming rival like krayt. Anyway the idea that Krayt took over the dark empire or at least a part of it would explain why the inquisitorius mysteriously disapeared and why alumni's of the shadow academy like Lomi Plo and Welk ended up being members of the one sith. Also to make a connection with the redfly darth maul videogame it could be established that prophets of the darkside resurrected darth maul (like in the star wars tales comic) to provide Krayt with a worthy apprentice. Anyway long story short this resurrected clone would eventually turn on his master leading to the battle of the sith lords which would be a long civil war between Krayt and Maul in the unknown regions that explains why krayt took so long to invade the known galaxy. After legacy volume II and the destruction of a good chunk of the one sith at the hands of darth wredd who was a secret apprentice of the rogue Maul, a resurrected Krayt would again face off against maul and his new apprentice Talon.
Yeah, i think it would be very interesting to make Palpatine a herald of the returning True Sith. Gesendet von meinem TA-1053 mit Tapatalk
