Extremely good. This was a real, touchable Batman. A full story arc, a great sense of confidence, sure of itself... excellent fare.

what a great new start for the dark knight! i'm so extremely pleased with it! so many comic references and great performances all round. i was disappointed with ra'as al ghul however, since all the other bits were done so well and as comic as they could have been- i hated the fact neeson was ra'as-also that there was no mention of the lazarrus pits etc. other than that. top stuff!! since such a good job was done here, i'm hoping superman returns will be even better!

Going tomorrow evening. We're going to get one of them fancy booths that multiplexs do nowadays. Big comfy seats, away from the audience, free popcorn; that's the way to see a film!

    Worst. Review. Ever!

First of all, it's Morgan Freeman, not Samul L. Jackson.

Secondly, wasn't the fact that both of Bruce's parents were killed always part of Batman? And even if it wasn't part of the original comics, Tim Burton established it with his films.

Lastly, this isn't meant to be a family film. It's supposed to be a dark Batman like Burtons. What do you reckon the likelihood is that this guy liked Batman and Robin?

What the heck is that critic on? Did he ever read Batman: Year One? The Long Halloween? Knightfall? Or anything of Batman for the last 20 years?

The 60s TV show was a product of its time and reflective of the comics at that time, I'll grant him that. But that review is so far off base the guy's claim to be a comic book fan is a total lie!

He comments about humour but there were plenty of moments in the film. Sure it was grim humour based on serious situations, but it was there and it worked far better than the forced cheesy humour they tried with the last 2 films! And how anyone can say "Batman & Robin" was "back on track" and expect to be taken seriously is completely beyond me! That film was the step back to the 60s, Batman Begins gives us the modern Batman, a hero for the 21st century.

Both his parents were shot and killed. FACT.

The death of his parents left him wanting revenge and to make sure what happened to him never happened to anyone else. They altered this slightly to bring Rachel into the origin more but it worked well.

He travelled the world to train to the level of skill he would need as Batman. I'm not sure about before Year One, but since 1986 that has been the origin. Fair enough he didn't train with Ra's Al Ghul and the League of Shadows but it made sense, worked for the film's plot, and the end result was the same.

I'll accept that the Batmobile is a totally new design, but this Batman is based in reality and the reason for that design was explained perfectly in the film. And it was a real vehicle not CGI (for at least a vast majority of the time, maybe even all of the time).

How you confuse Sam Jackson with Morgan Freeman I don't know, it just shows poor writing ability when the critic can't even be bothered to check the cast list. And Alfred may have helped patch up the suits (as he was seen doing with the mask in this film) but as far as I remember he never made them fully himself. Plus there's the fact that in the comics they're material over kevlar rather than a proper, more realistic, military suit. And in the comics the Batmobile (at least the first one) DID come from Wayne Enterprises, Bruce and Alfred "stole" it!

And the villains are meant to be scary! Maybe the critic should watch Mask of the Phantasm or the uncut version of Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker to see what Joker's really like. Or if he's the comics fan he claims to be maybe he should read "The Killing Joke"!

As for Bale. The guy is the best live action Batman ever! He ever rivals Kevin Conroy's portrayal in the animated series. This is MEANT to be a DARK character! This film nails Batman completely.

The story was great. I was glad Bruce/Batman was the focus rather than the villains, this is how it should be. And for once in the film the villain (Scarecrow) didn't learn the secret or die! In fact if he wants to complain about the lack of consistency with the comics the ONLY thing he can really pick at is that Batman left Ra's to die. But given the movie is meant to be a more realistic take, even this makes sense.

Ok rant over. LOVED THE FILM!! Seen it twice already :D

It's going to take multiple viewings of both this and ROTS to decide which I like best. And that's gonna mean a lot of money, but also a great summer :D

I agree totally Chris I feel that this is by far the film i enjoyed the most this year so far....i mean sure im a star wars fanatic but a batman one too so for me batman begins gave me more of what i want from a movie....emotional depth, believable characters and realism...

i know star wars has some elements of these but overall i just found Batman more of my sort of film...

Yeah I'll be honest and say that right now Batman does have the advantage over Star Wars for me, which is why I want to see both a few more times so I can judge overall. Overall impressions from first screening I'm biased towards ROTS because I was at the marathon and nothing can really top that. But as a film Batman did deliver more, and the most unbelievable thing happened at my screening last night. I saw Star Wars again the first showing at my local cinema and there was no visible audience reaction besides a few laughs for R2's antics and Obi-Wan's classic lines. When I saw Batman Saturday night (2 days after release) there was a small applause at the end. Nothing major, but with the exception of the marathon and the midnight opening of AOTC in London I've NEVER experienced that! This was a regular showing and there was appaluse at the end, not much but it was there.

One more dig at that critic because I forgot it earlier: Director Christopher NOLAN also directed Memento, actor Christain BALE didn't appear in that film at all. He lost his weight for The Machinest and then put even more back on (what he called a diet of "pizza and push ups") to play Batman. He wasn't skinny at all, in fact he's probably the most realistically built of all the Batmen we've had so far.

Role on Batman 2 and the Joker :D

It can't be better than ROTS.

War of the Worlds will be much better in my opinion, but i could change my mind once i have seen them.

Yeah Hush was a great story. I'm looking forward to Frank Miller and Jim Lee on All-Stars Batman and Robin next month!

Oh and GeneralGrievous1, this film is like ROTS, you have to see it on the big screen. It's easily worth the money.

Saw it last night, and have to say it was bloody fantastic. Loved it all the way though, Bale is someone I rate as an actor and he didn't disappoint as the dark knight, and it was how Batman should feel when watching it. I was mightly impressed.

Saw it today. Thought it was excellent!

Loved the scary images people saw when exposed to the fear gas. Batman looked awsome when the Scarecrow saw him, after being exposed to the gas.

Loved the car, Alfred, bad guys (best of all the bat movies), look and feel of the entire movie.

    Most of all, Christian Bale.

What can you say? Perfect as Bruce/Batman. And why is that???

    Just read my sig!

You won't regret it :) Be sure to tell us what you think when you have seen it.

Oh and avoid spoilers. I did and it made the film so much more enjoyable! Course now I'm reading that early script that's been on my computer since December ;)
