Batman's Apprentices

Can anyone give me a list and a bit of a description (including what comics/shows/movies/etc, they are in), there are the various Robins, and of course Terry from Batman Beyond. But I hardly know anything about them.

Dick Grayson - Original Robin, later became Nightwing

Jason Todd - Second Robin, killed by the Joker

Carrie Kelly - The only female Robin from the Dark Knight Returns story

Azrael - Took over as Batman for a while after Bane broke Bruce's back

And of course Terry from Batman Beyond.

 

Let me see, off the top of my head:

Orignal Robin/NightWing (Dick Grayson)-acrobat family was killed, Batman took him in and trained him, and he became hi first sidekick. After years of working together, they had a falling out and Dick left and went solo as Nightwing, to this day. He eventually patched things up with Batman and helps when he needs it.

Second Robin (Jason Todd)- Got caught stealing the Batmobile's wheel, Batman took him in and he became second Robin. However, Jason was more reckless and tended to break Batman's orders. Was "killed" by the Joker while looking for his mother. However, he has since resurfaced in recent issues of Batman, though whether he's an ally or enemy remains to be seen.

Third Robin (Tim Drake)- Tim was actually smart enough to find out that Batman is Bruce Wayne and Nightwing is Dick Grayson, he tracked BAtman down and told him he needed a Robin at his side. Eventually Tim became Robin and still is, though he works more solo these days in Bludhaven

Original Batgirl/Oracle (Barbara Gordon)- Barbara is the daughter of commisioner Gordon and aided the original Batman and Robin, but was shot in the spine by the Joker and became paralized, she now aids all DC superheros as The Oracle, the best source of information and tactical support you could ever want.

Current Batgirl (Cassandra Cain)- a girl that was trained since birth(!) to be a super assasin by Cain (one of Batman's teachers) and to be a part of Ras Al Ghoul's LEague of Assassins. She is quite possibly the top martial artist in the DC universe next to Lady Shiva.

Spoiler/Robin (Stephanie Brown)- Daughter of criminal Cluemaster, chose to fight crime herself as The Spoiler, hooked up with Tim Drake, and after Tim stopped being Robin for a time, Batman let her be the 4th Robin, but fired her soon after. She was killed during the War Games series by Black Mask.

That's about all I can think as far as immediate members of the "Bat family", he has numerous allies, but those are those closest to him.

 

There's aslo Cassandra Cain, the new, more kick ass batgirl.

BTW, Barbara Gordon, the old batgirl, is now Oracle, who basically feeds info to the batman family from a safe location.

Also, Helena Bertinelli is the Huntress and now, apparently, the new batgirl. edit: no, wait. That was during no man's land. Cain is the current batgirl.

I think soemone needs to make an official Batman thread...there's like at least 3 threads about Batman posted a day.

Everyone knows that Scooby was Batman's best apprentice.

The Huntress was Batgirl for the first two arcs in "No Man's Land", before 'retiring' it after her failure with Black Mask and his gang. Cassandra took up the mantle afterwards.
