Battle Meditation...what is it? I know, from what parts and pieces I saw of KOTOR, that it is powerful enough to get the Sith's attention, but what is it (besides a form of meditation)? Why is it so powerful? What does it do? Can any Jedi (or Sith) perform this meditation, or simply those strong very in the Force (like Anakin, for example)? Can someone explain it to me, point me in the right direction, or may I make up what I think it is?

I need this information for a story, so any info on this subject would be useful. Thanks!

Battle meditation is a technique that allows Jedi (or normal beings) to think, fight, and move as one, effectively.

AFAIK it's unqiue to a few Jedi, although in Star by Star the Jedi strike team was using something referred to as a Force Meld.

    Need anything else?

If you read some of the comics, battle meditation is a means by which powerful Jedi masters affect the outcome of a battle. They 'meditate' or visualize how they want the battle to go and the Force carries it throughout the fight and affects everything to help it turn out the way the Jedi wishes.

It shows up in the Tales of the Jedi comics, though I don't remember right off which specific volume.

I think it influences everyone of the combatants (even in vast armies) in a way (through the Force, somehow).
Timothy Zahn hinted at something similar when Thrawn was telling Pellaeon about C'Baoth and why he wanted to "use" him.

Thanks for the replies, everyone. I?ve never read any comics, or Star by Star (or many other books for that matter), so that?s why I?m clueless.

Let me see if I get this straight. The battle meditation is used by powerful Jedi (preferably masters), allowing them to predict the outcome of a battle. This happens by having the Jedi, or an army to fight as one through the Force?

Did I get that right? ?[face_plain]

Not predict, but influence or cause. Otherwise, yes. :) You've got it right.

Does it always work? Are there any downsides to this?

If I remember correctly, KOTOR said that Bastila must be at complete peace for it to work. So if it was crazy and stuff she probably couldn't do it. As you noticed she was always alone when preforming Battle Meditation. Of course, I could be wrong. Been a while since I played it.

Concept of Battle Meditation I remember reading was to do with the morale of the opposing forces and suppressing your sides fears and doubts while enhancing the oppositions. Make your side believe they can win and they will keep fighting hard, make the opposition believe they will lose and they will break and surrender or flee.

Alpha_synth, Lilith Demodae, AlrikFassbauer, _JM_: Thank you all for the info! I believe I understand. :)

Obi-Wan21, I haven't played KOTOR, unfortunately, though I have watched some of the beginning...my brother refuses to let me see the ending...although I've read enough stories to know it. But I'll take your word for it. :) Thanks!

Now, I do have one more question about it (well, it is more like your opinion). Is it a passed down art or a self-trained one? Say...if Yoda knew it, he could have trained Dooku, and Dooku could have taught Qui-Gon, etc.? Or would it merely be known to those dedicated masters who taught themselves via the ancient manuscripts locked up somewhere in the center tower of the Jedi Temple or the Jedi Archives?

So far as I know it's a trained art. At least that's the way the books and comics portray it.

All right. Thanks! I have another question then. Please, pardon my curiosity, but which Jedi would be better at it? Those strong in the Living Force? Or those strong in the Unifying Force? Or does it not matter?

I imagine that the Unifying Force would be the one you're looking at there. The Living Force seems to be more individual/now focused, while Unifying seems to be group/future focused.
