I went into my various sources and pulled out 40 Mon Cal cruiser names because I was sure there was a source saying there were that many at Endor, and then couldn’t find it. So… … am I misremembering? Because I can probably name 40 Mon Cal cruisers now if need be(!)
I recall a section of the Dark Empire Sourcebook saying the Alliance Command Fleet consisted of 40 Mon Calamari Star Cruisers and that the Command Fleet was at Endor.
Were they on the other side of the Death Star? The rebel fleet was pathetically small in the film. It's hard to believe they were ever a serious threat to the empire.
I couldn't find it either. p.24 says "the Rebellion's entire war fleet" was at Endor, but AFAICT there are no numbers given -- the only number related to Mon Cal cruisers I found was the passage on p.98 about seven Mon Cal cruisers being destroyed while being under repair at Hast Shipyards shortly after Endor. Which gives us a lower bound but nothing beyond that.
Ahem.. is it allowed to post a link to the entire DE Sourcebook like that here? Thought that was illegal? Just asking cause I might need the same trick for future topics then. Or are out of print items only availeable on used books market legal to be hosted on fansites??? I'd like to do that if that is legal indeed, or does it depend on country? If so the post may be illegal in some and not others, how does TFN deal with that then?
Looking at the Rebel Command Fleet page on Wookieepedia is where we get the number. Obviously this is wrong.
Good questions, @ColeFardreamer. I assumed that since Bongiorno had posted it, and since it is out of print and West End Games not only no longer has the SW license but doesn't exist anymore, that posting it was fair game. But I could easily be wrong in that assumption. I don't seem to be able to delete my post, but I suppose I could report it. @Sinrebirth , what would be the ruling on this? Does it fall under "Piracy, Bootlegging, and Plagiarism"? : "1. Linking to, mentioning or requesting underground sites, pirate sites, etc. to get copyrighted materials is prohibited. Discussion of widely-known, established filesharing services (such as uTorrent) or websites (Pirate Bay, Kickass Torrents) is also not acceptable." https://boards.theforce.net/threads/rules-of-the-jedi-council-forums.27141421/
Strictly speaking, following the letter of the rules, I need to take it down, and so I will. Hypocritical of me unfortunately but it didn’t occur to me with something so old but the copyright is still valid. But of course it is. But. Does anyone remember the source about the ships which were damaged at Endor? Wasn’t it like 50%, with 20% destroyed?
Truce at Bakura Sourcebook, p. 9, says fighter casualties were over 20%, and 75% of remaining Rebel ships needed substantial repair.
75%. If you want, that 75% means that the Rebels had 7 MC80s under repair at Hast, and thus 10 MC80s total at Endor.
It's a bit of a stretch but at least it's something to go on rather than pure speculation. It makes sense that many of the ships needing "substantial repair" would be capital ships too, because they can take lots of damage yet still be worth salvaging. So while "10 MC cruisers at Endor" is not set in stone, the number is a good anchor - the answer will be somewhere around that, with error bars mostly in the upwards direction.
That would presumably fall among the 20% destroyed. Though. We can confirm that at least four Mon Cal cruisers were destroyed. (Two by Death Star, one by ram, one by the Pride of Tarlandia). So. 20?
The sourcebook makes it sound like the over-20% casualty rate is specifically for personnel, not ships, but there's a citation to the novel itself, where it's a more general "twenty percent of our forces".
I mean these ships are confirmed to be at the Battle of Endor. Independence Home One Defiance Liberty Maria Reef Home Nautillan Among the 20% destroyed includes Liberty and Nautilan. Among the 75% severely damaged, it does not include Home One, Independence, Reef Home, Maria, Defiance, and probably the Justice. 25% = 6. 75% = 18. 100% = 24. But 100% = 80%. So 100% is truly 30. I mean if I want to get particularly picky with the initial fleet at the Zann-Battle of Kuat, that adds 4 more MC80s. If 10 are among the 25%, that gives me 40 survived. So 40 as a low-end isn’t hurting anyone. And I can name 40 so. Woot.
