I created a similar topic before the release of Rots back in the hey day of the Ep3 Forum and now I come back to complete the circle.

Now that Rots has settled down, my question is - How Does the Battle Over Coruscant compare to Battle Over Endor in terms of emotion, story and how far they have come in terms of technology. Has BoC(Battle Over Coruscant) pushed the envelope in terms of technology like BoE(Battle Over Endor) did back in the 80's?

I know its more like 3 questions within that main question but i hope it will generate some good discussions.

The two battles both proved to be huge successes in the saga, both in terms of the chronological order of the events/action of each battle and the way that the ideas were carried out onto the screen.

The thing I like the best is the transition in tactics and weaponry that mirrored that of history.

In the PT, we see that the capital ship is king, its firepower is awesome and the entire battle is shaped around the battles between these giants firing their volleys back and forth at each other.

This mirrors the days leading up to early WWII where the battleship was thought to be the king of the navy fleet. By the same virtues and through the same tactics, it was thought that supremacy of the sea was best carried out by the size and firepower of one's best battleship.

But by the time of the OT, starting with the destruction of the first Deathstar, we see a transition in tactics to witness fighters take the forefront in naval battles. The capital ships were more or less the carriers that allowed the tip of the spear (the fighters) to cut its path and do its damage.

This is just like the transition in actual history which saw the power of naval tactics switch to the aircraft carrier.

Translation, a great thought process by GW and the gang that carried itself over to the screen in an impressive fashion.

Well, I absolutely adore the opening shots of the Cosurcant battles, with the drum beat and the sun glinting off the hull of the slow moving frigate and then The Force Theme coming in as we follow Obi-Wan and Anakin's ships moving in complete unison through the battle. That opening minute of so of ROTS is just wonderful and really sets up the overall brilliance of the rest of the movie.

All that said, as an overall battle, I'm an Endor guy. I think the Battle Of Endor takes space battles to a whole 'nother level and really can't be bested.

I like the personal, one-on-one battles over Endor with the rebel figthers vs. the TIE fighters...the dogfights were well done, you felt like you were part of the action, you could feel for the pilots as they were shot down or crashed into the ships head on.

I didn't really get that with the BoC, except maybe with Obi-Wan and Anakin(and of course the clone fighters), but even there it didn't feel like a fly by the seat of your pants dogfight...at one point Anakin seemed to be enjoying himself, while Obi-Wan was doing everything he could just to stay flying and they weren't trying to destroy a planet destroying battlestation, they were trying to get to one of those capital ships to rescue the Chancellor, which once they reached that destination, they focused on that more than they did on the clone fighters outside.

Personally I prefer the Battle over Endor because we get the preperation, we know the objectives of the rebels, we have a more emotional attachment to the people involved (Lando & Wedge) and so on.

In the Battle over Corruscant we get better effects and we have Anakin and Obi-Wan but still the Battle over Endor wins in my oppinion.

The battle over Endor, no contest. The battle of Corouscant was boring and something we had seen many times in the PT before. Not a scene a I was very fond of.

I actually like the battle of coruscant more. I like the chaotic feel to it, it's very symbolistic of the clone wars. If it were longer and more stretched out like the Endor battle,I think it would be classic.

Both aimed to achieve very different things and accomplished them well.

Endor was supposed to have focus on the tactics and specifics of the battle. It was a plot point whose outcome was paramount to the overall story.

The battle over Coruscant is majestic looking and epic in every sense of the word but the focus isn't on the battle and isn't intended to be. The focus is and should be on Anakin/Kenobi getting to Grievous' ship ASAP. We get some amazing visuals of the battle that I do believe exceed anything we see in any other movie but there's no purpose in getting into the technical aspects of the battle on either side as they are clearly stated in the crawl. The Seppies are trying to leave, while the Republic is trying to rescue the Chancellor. The way I see it is that the space battle over Coruscant is typical of the Clone Wars in general. We know that the battle is created for the sole reason of testing Anakin Skywalker and screen time would be wasted trying to create drama that doesn't need to exist. When an event is fixed like the Clone Wars and everyone knows it, there isn't a whole lot to pull for or root for from an audience POV. Better to keep the focus on the individual characters and show us an overall view of the battle.

Now if ROTJ had been made today, it would have been much better than it was but trying to compare the two in the way you are really doesn't acknowledge what each battle is supposed to represent in the individual trilogies.

ok well you all make good points but i think that the battle over endor is not as good but can be a lot better if they put in a lot more seens of the big ships going at it only even better than boc. and i think if they just added like a seen were 3 or 4 mon calamari ships getting destroyed by the super star destroyer with the falcon flying all around and doing amazing stunts it would be perfect!!! cuz it is good right now but if its the last star wars movie then it has to be amazing!!!! cuz if this is the battle that brings down the empire then they have to go out with i grate big spectacular fight!!!!! what do you guys think? whos with me???[face_dancing]
