Beards

I don't know where this came from, but stay with me.

Many, MANY older men in the star wars universe have facial hair, perhaps as an OOU tool to add distinction or provide a visual difference (Han vs Thrackan)

I guess my question is...it would seem like something Luke would do, and yet he's never been portrayed as such...we always get the youthful "film era" Luke...kind of like in Jedi Knight when Kyle meets with Luke and Luke looks and sounds like a petulant child...the simple touch of a beard could bring a fresh face to Luke in advancing years.

Are they afraid of it? I mean the Mindor image makes sense, but could we not see a Luke with a beard in LOTF or now FOTJ? Or Legacy's force ghost being the spiting image of Luke circa Endor?

Heck, facial hair might make it easier for him to pass unnoticed...his boyish character is well known to all...a good goatee could make him almost unrecognizable.

or is that the point...that he maintains his Endor appearance on purpose?

Could he not have one cause his daddy never got to have one? Honor thy father with a razor?

It's a bizarre topic...what is the significance of such grooming habits in Star Wars...and why is it such a predisposition of many secondary characters, but not the main ones (i think Han has had facial hair a couple times as disguises, or perhaps when he was in his post-chewie "funk"...but it always comes off).

Thoughts?

 

Perhaps you'll get your wish in Outcast. It's likely Luke will be traveling incognito, given the storyline, and anyone who's read Allston knows that there's no better way to avoid unwanted attention than with a waist-length beard.

 

Only Force Phantom Evil Luke has a beard...

 

As a proud wearer of the full beard, I would love to see Luke with one. At the very least a Qui-Gon style beard.

I would imagine while he was being emo about Mara dying he probably neglected to shave with a space-razor.

 

I know it's an amusing subject, but seriously...there is something to the imagery, both with Qui Gon and the evolution of Obi-wan's appearance.

I don't know about using photoshop...but if someone with more artistic talent then I could do a rendering, that would be something to see.

I thought about him...I wonder if that was as much a decision on Samuel Jackson's part as anything else...perhaps a way to represent his relative youth on the council.

Ki-Adi-Mundi would appear to have been the beard balance on the council.

Yes he did. Haruun Kallians grow skin coloured beards.

 

Perhaps Skywalkers can't grow beards.

 

He knew that any beard he'd grow would pale in comparison to Kyle's glorious one and decided not to try.

That's how Luke should look with a beard, if they actually decided to age him in a realistic way.

I always hoped Luke would grow a beard. In his old age it would be a nice parallel with Old Ben, and kind of make him look a bit wiser.

Sorry maybe only those Skywalkers that aren't overburdened by their hertitage can't grow beards.

 

I have a beard. No big deal. I personnally think not everyone would look good with a beard luke being one of them. I say keep luke like he is till you kill him off. lol

 

I swear they took Disney's Davey Jones character when they created this Skywalker.

 

Perhaps Luke just doesn't want to go for the wizard/and or Jesus look a lot of Jedi tend to adopt.

Beards are awesome, but I'm not sure they're Luke's style. Han, on the other hand, looks great with one.

 

Or maybe Luke doesn't grow a beard because its one less handhold for a Dark Jedi to grab onto, or maybe he doesn't like beards because stuff collects in them. They don't call mustaches 'soup strainers' for nothing.

How are guys able to stand having them? They look like they would just itch like crazy.
