I don't know what his name is, but you know the guy that plays in Spiderman 1 and Spiderman 2. The guy that was the son of the Green Goblin, the same guy that pulled off Spiderman's mask in Spiderman 2. You know.....that guy.

I believe he could made a good EP2/EP3 Anakin Skywalker. As for EP1 Anakin, hmmmm I don't know.....

I believe you mean James Franco, Lord-Draco.

I agree. He had that personality at the end of Spider-Man 2 that made Anakin the way we know him in RotS. Arrogant, hard-headed, violent, unable to let things go.

I just think his hair was too dark and curly in that movie to be Anakin, but other than that he would've been fine.

As for ten-year-old Anakin in TPM. Probably a male version of Dakota Fanning [face_laugh]. Man, that little girl can act.

Anyone could have done better than them. I seriously want to know who told Hayden that whiney petulance was the way to go. They needed someone who could play him as sympathetic yet dark and troubled.

The character of Anakin was supposed to be whiney and immature. Too bad for you he doesn't seem to fit your standards of hero:rolleyes:

^^ I agree with what they said. Take your complaint about the portrayl of Anakin up with George Lucas, he wrote and directed it. Not to mention the countless # of interviews he has stepped up and said in 'people have problems with Hayden's acting in the Star Wars films because they dont like the character, its not who they wanted Anakin to be. I told Hayden to play Anakin this way, and he obviously accomplished it because it pissed so many people off'

^^Exactly...I'm so sick of people complaining over and over that Hayden did a bad job. Everytime I hear this I just tell them to call GL so they can do a better job, which I know they never could so stop b****ing. Jake did a good job playing young Anakin as a sweet and innocent little boy, that more or less liked to brag a little, and Hayden did a good job playing a conflicted hero who's fall was inevitable.

I agree on James Franco - he would have been great too. (Although I still prefer Hayden). Another one who would have been good was Joaquin Phoenix, although a bit too old for the part now.

I believe that Phoenix would have played the anger scenes better.

James Franco. As for Anakin in episode I, I dont know I really hate his young age. It would really make the series better if Anakin was 16 or 17 in ep. I

GL made Anakin 9 in episode 1 so that the emotional impact of him leaving his mother would be greater. This also affects him later in his life because he has a hard time letting go of the people he loves. So technically from that standpoint...the series wouldn't be better if he had started out that old.[face_peace]

I dunno if you've seen the charlie and the chocolate factory remake, but what about the kid that played Mike Teavee? He seems better than Jake Lloyed. Better actor at least. Jake Lloyed in my opinion is one of the worst actors I've seen. Has he done anything since TPM?

I had no beef with Hayden, he saved the character for me.

But I have to admit they could have gotten someone better than Jake Loyd. Like it was said above, Hayden acted as he was directed. He played the character consisistently even if you didn't like the take on Anakin that Lucas chose.
Jake Loyd though, well I just couldn't see Anakin there. His scenes in the movie seemed more like he was some kid who one a contest rather than an actual actor. I agree with one of the above posts that Haley Joel Osment would have been a far better choice. He's proved himself more than once that he's capable at being a proffesional, and IMO he looks alot more like Hayden then Jake Loyd does.

Who in the heck makes a hero annoying on purpose? Give me a break. In my opinion, Hayden played it the wrong way. To me, the proof is in how many people can't stand Anakin when we were all supposed to love him and feel bad for him when he fell (the whole tragic hero bit).

I posted this thread like a week ago and it got banned. Maybe it was because I included a possible replacement for Portman in it as well (don't know why that would matter). All I know is that Leo Dicaprio was offered the part. No offense to Leo, he is a great actor, but could you imagine him whrilin a lightsaber (not me). Ryan Phillipe (Cruel Intentions, Crash, 54) was offered the role but turned it down due to the difference in age between him and Natalie Portman. I liked Hayden as Anakin. I thought he did great, maybe just okay in AOTC, but he was fantastic in ROTS.

first off, I seriously doubt any actor would turn down the leading role in STAR WARS due to an age difference with the leading actress. Liam Neeson and Sam Jackson (both highly celebrated actors) basically said yes without ever reading the script. And an actor with Phillippes backround doesnt really have the luxury of turning down the part of a life time anyway considering his other roles were ' I know what you did last summer' and ' cruel intentions'

but thats redundant because no one else was ever offered the role of Anakin. They might have auditioned, but they were never offered. This is why LucasFilm flies in their actors to audition with Natalie and on film at Skywalker Ranch, and then slowly get rid of the ones who didnt work. So they wouldnt have to offer the role to someone who wouldnt take it, AND they knew 'okay, this guy is anakin'.

I believe i heard that Lloyd had given up on acting. A large part in this decision was from all the flak he has copped from demented fanboys like yourself you criticize the hell out of him.

He was playing a nine-year old kid after all, and he did just that!!

http://imdb.com/name/nm0000202/bio Here is the source. Also, lets be real. Jake Lloyd was a KID. He is not going to give a Tom Hanks like performance. Plus, none of the actors in the series ever received great praise for their portrayal. So if your going to blame someone for the bad acting, blame Lucas for bad directing. I love Lucas, but everybody know his weaknesses are his dialogue and his directing skills at times. Lloyd did a good job.

Well the role was offered to Ryan Phillupe.
I actually like Hayden in the role.
As for the kid, ehh, he wasn't that important to that part of the story anyway.

I think Eric Bana (Hector in Troy) would have made a good Anakin, as would Joaqin Phoenix.
