There's only one good Star Wars game, and that would be Knights of the Old Republic.

I beg to differ. There are several very good to excellent Star Wars games, including (but not limited to) the X-Wing series and the Dark Forces Series.

Knights of the Old Republic for me too. Not only the best SW game but also one of the best games ever released.

Hmm, I haven't played EVERY Star Wars game, (most notably KOTOR and Jedi Academy are not on my gaming resume) but here is my PERSONAL top five...

05 Star Wars The Clone Wars
Beating off competion from Rebel Assault II (which sucked) and Shadows of the Empire (which was alright)is the chance to fight in the most eagerly awaited fictional war ever. The presentation is well enough, but it doesn't feel like a Star Wars game at its core, although I could be spoiled by the RS games

04 Star Wars Bounty Hunter PS2
A chance to be the bad guy, and the daddy of the daddy of all Bounty Hunters! A plot unfolds in brilliant CG FMV that with a bit of work would make an excellent TV special. Compelling game play with a variety of weapons, plus a healthy mixture of situations which need a subtle blend of lateral thinking and brute force to resolve. Plus the villaness is a hottie. Ahem.

03 Star Wars: Rogue Squaron II - Rogue Leader.
A chance to fight in the defining space battles of the orignal trilogy. For me, this was the only reason I got a Gamecube, and I think that it was money well spent. The FMV clips from the films are a nasty tease of how the DVD's will look (whenever Lucas gets around to it.) The only flaw is that its feindishly difficult.

02 Star Wars: Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike. GC
This game has a better balance between being challenging, yet rewarding. . I'm not an ace player, but I managed to stock up 11 medals, as opposed to one on Rogue Leader. The on foot missions aren't going to beat Jedi Knight or even Bounty Hunter, but they are fun! A multi player mode incorporating the first game's levels and hidden versions of the original arcade games mean that this is Star Wars arcade gaming at its best.

01 Star Wars: Jedi Knight II Jedi Outcast.
If Rogue Leader was the reason, JO is my reward for buying a Gamecube. True, it lacks the sharpness of the PC and XBox versions, but its novel... a first person shooter where the projectiles aren't the best weapons! Plus, the game is framed in a plot that does feel like a Star Wars movie. The journey of Kyle is almost as absorbing as the journeys of Luke and Anakin. The force is strongest with this one.

Nice list, currently playing Rogue Squadron III on the GC. Quite hard too. Don't think much of the on foot part but the flying part is spectacular.

    Mine would be:

    1) KOTR
    2) Jedi Academy
    3) Jedi Outcast
    4) Jedi Knight II
    5) Roque Squadron

As you can see from No's 2,3 and 4. My fave type of game is FPS and thats where KOTR shows how good it is.

Here's my Top 10 list of SW games, because top 5 just doesn't cut it:

    10) Bounty Hunter
The chance to be the bad guy is nothing short of awesome -- especially a Fett, with the coolest armor in the universe! Yeah, DV's armor and the Royal Guard suit are cool and powerful, but the Fett still takes the cake. Not too much of a story -- just a shooter to the core. It's just good old-fashioned blast up the bad guys fun.

    9) Clone Wars
A decent story for a shooter game -- allowing the player to live the legendary war they have wondered about since 1977. With Xbox Live support, this becomes as cool of a game as multiplayer games get -- especially the Conquest mode, and the Academy mode, a nod to earlier arcade games.

    8) Dark Forces
The original, and still a great. Many members of the Jedi Outcast/Academy communities have dedicated themselves to remaking this game with more modern graphics. Download it if you get the chance.

    7) X-wing Alliance
Quite possibly the deepest, most powerful story ever presented in a space shooter game. Absorbing, challenging missions, dozens of cool options, and multiplayer mayhem make this one a keeper.

    6) Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight
Without this game, Star Wars games would be pretty much nowhere.

    5) Mysteries of the Sith
The story isn't the most complicated, but emotionally it's a very powerful tale. We see Kyle training his first apprentice, Mara Jade, picking up where Luke left off. Without this little adventure, I doubt Mara could ever have become a Jedi. The environments presented in the game are VERY absorbing, and the selection of Force powers is good, as well. I liked the smuggler base and the spaceport, but nothing beats the last 3 levels on Dromund Kaas. It feels like a survival horror game and Dagobah rolled into one, while retaining so much of the mythos that is Star Wars. At the very end, we see the power of redemption in action once again. Best damn expansion pack ever.

    4) Jedi Academy
The story is kind of lame, but the gameplay more than makes up for it. A multiplayer gamer's wet dream.

    3) Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader
Sure, Rebel Strike was good, but it doesn't match this. This game demonstrates LucasArts' and Factor 5's ultimate mastery of the space combat game.

    2) Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast
Would've been better if they gave you every Force power in SP mode -- what the hell were they thinking not letting you have Absorb and Protect!! But other than that, the characters, story, and gameplay are near-perfect. Kyle Katarn is my favorite EU character, and they did him justice here. Anyone who plays this and doesn't like Kyle should be shot.

    1) Knights of the Old Republic
Absorbing, original, and just damn fun. BioWare should be proud of themselves for this work of art. People all over have gotten emotionally attached to these characters, including myself.

    1) KOTOR
    2) JK: Academy/ Outcast

Considering its importance as the first, full-blown, "non-arcade" Star Wars flight simulator, though, I think that both it, and perhaps TIE Fighter and its add-ons even moreso, both belong in that list, as an aggregate duo.

My off-the-cuff ruminations and ponderings (not an official list):

    • Knights, quite probably the best SW game yet released by LucasArts, in the nearly two decades they've been in existence as game engineers -- across the board, it has all others beat on virtually every single creative level;

    • Jedi Outcast, a tick or two below it in the Platonic Empyrean of Ideals;

    • Rogue Squadron -- excellent, particularly the Endor sequences;

    • Rebel Strike -- had the chance to play this a number of times, and the space levels are exquisitely designed, but the pace of the "on-foot" levels make Stephen Hawking look like Jesse Owens.
Haven't yet picked up Jedi Academy, but it's on my list for the next month or so, once I'm out from under a veritable avalanche of work.

If I were to select the two or three greatest, hands-down-best-against-all-comers, Star Wars titles ever, though?

In no particular order: Jedi Knight (Mysteries of the Sith, ditto); Knights of the Old Republic; and X-Wing/TIE Fighter, plus their repsective expansions. Still can't get over their replay value and depth, even a decade later.

(And, of course, the greatest of them all, the Return of the Jedi: Death Star Battle Atari 2600 game. ;))

indeed! I will say that there are all right Star Wars games. But KOTOR is now second on my list of favorite games of all time, first will always be the Zelda series of course. But anyone who knows me knows that I am a traditionalist, and I love all the classic game series ecspecially the ones that continue to live on such as Zelda, Mario, Metroid, etc...So those have always been my top favorites. But now, FINALLY a really GOOD star wars game has come out. And I am happy. Thank you Bioware corp, and Lucasarts! I will say that the Jedi Knight series is a good game but not at the same calibur as KOTOR.

    1) KOTOR
    2) The X-Wing series (with XWA narrowly beating TIE as my favorite of the three).
    3) The Dark Forces series (with Jedi Knight -- despite its age -- providing the most powerful story and gaming experience, IMHO).

Knights of the Old Republic is awesome. I'm sitting there playing wishing they would make a Star Wars movie from this.

It is so enthralling and lets jsut faces some of the responses you can give are just damn funny. My personal favs are:

"I hate you old man." To Jolee

and "I already told you I wanted to start the trial flipperface." to the Selkath in the prison area on Manaan.

TIE Fighter and KOTOR vie for supremacy in my mind, with XWA and JK tying for second.

There's no 'best' SW game, they're all so different.

    2) Rogue Leader
    3) Jedi Outcast
    4) Rogue Squadron
    5) Super Start Wars

I'm basing this on my personal criteria which is A) how fun they are, and B) how well-made they are. I am not including both Rebel Strike and Jedi Academy as I find them both to be rather crappy and/or thrown together.

What happened to the older era of gamers. It's not like its by that much either--only like 3 years.

I'm surprised so few have recognized the greatness that is TIE Fighter. We see the rise of Thrawn, and it was the first game to take a more complex look at SW that is becoming more and more popular. Rather than the films demonization, it presented a morally ambiguous Empire with a mix of good and bad actions and characters, while still staying true to the SW story. Also, it handled Hoth's mop-up operations, showing how sometime keeping the peace is just as hard as winning the war. Finally, it resisted the urge to be ridiculous in its proportions, and often had players doing quotidian duties: trade caravan inspections, establishing new Imperial bases, patrol duty, restocking supplies on Star Destroyers, etc.

And all that besides, it was, like X-wing ground-breaking in its graphics. And gameplay was a seamless joy, while the accompanying storyline was enthralling.

    Best. SW. Game. Ever.

And TIE Fighter had some original (and excellent) music; unlike most games, which rehash movie music.
I daresay it's one of the best flight sims ever made.

    mmm...Missile Boat...

And besides, what could be cooler than flying as Vader's wingman? :D
