My mother, my daughter, and I are going to see TROS on Monday. It is probably that at least one of us is going to need to use the bathroom sometime during the middle of the film.

When would be the best time to take a short bathroom break? There's no way that this would be necessary during the first 45 minutes or so of the film, so restrict your suggestions to after the 45 minute mark. Be as specific as necessary. For example:

"When you see Lando pet the purple camel, make a break for it and come back as soon as you can!"

Do it when Rey takes the glider out onto the rough seas. Nothing significant happens for at least a few minutes, just some memberberries.

It's such a fast paced movie that you'll forget about going to the bath room there's so much to enjoy you can't really miss anything.......

After Rey meets Luke on Ach-to, there is a stretch where nothing happens and they just talk about hope and crap before the final battle.

And you will really need to go at that point because of all the water onscreen. ;)

It’s tough because they keep them all together often now and the Resistance base B plot cutaways are brief. You don’t want to miss Luke lifting up the X-Wing or Hamill’s last performance as Luke ever at all so don’t go there.

Also complicating matters is that there are little setups that pay off things later. I’d say skip the start of Passana but you miss the girl asking Rey her family name which sets up the end and might miss Lando’s entrance and talk of Luke which is fun.

My vote would be as soon as Rey realizes Chewie is alive. As soon as she says that go and bolt. You will mostly miss some action you have seen in trailers. Poe, Finn and Rey use the medallion and approach the destroyer, board it, exit Ochee’s ship, and walk down halls killing Troopers. Rey senses the dagger and slowly moves in that direction. Poe and Finn get caught. So long as you make back before Rey & Kylo start talking you’re good. Even if you miss that one discussion it isn’t a must see one. He’s still evil telling her she will turn. She’s telling him he is still haunted by what he did to his father. They fight through force time. They smash the pedestal of the Vader mask which you saw in ads anyway. Then Kylo heads to the ship because he realizes she’s in his chambers.

You MUST make it back prior to him getting to the ship because it’s there he tells her where her power comes from. This is also a good mid section of the film place so you will be well positioned for the last hour.

There's this part where the final music cues and you see Directed By J.J. Abrams, that's when I'd make a break for it. You should make it back by the time the beautiful opening crawl music plays again in the end credits :p

I haven't figured out the bathroom break situation yet after 2 viewings, I'm sure I'll pin it down eventually. I try to make sure I don't have this issue for the first 10 viewings, then after that I don't care anymore because I've seen it all enough that it won't be the end of the world. But then I still identify the best couple of scenes and those are ones without action. If you've seen great dialogue and "character moments" enough, they don't matter anymore, it's just the action and eye candy you really want to enjoy again and again. That's why I always chuckle at people talking about "character moments." Those are great the first couple of times I see a Star Wars movie, but come on, I'm going to see all of these movies 100+ times, so let's not belabor something that isn't even a big deal two weeks after the movie has come out.

I left and came back just as Rey was done riding the water speeder thing. The moment I left was when Poe asks about parts for/fixing the Falcon after they're told they'll need to wait to try to cross the rough sea to get to the Death Star remains.

Go to the bathroom BEFORE it starts!!! The movie flies, especially in the beginning. No time to tinkle!

Exactly. Go to the bathroom before it starts. Do not drink anything 40 minutes before the movie starts. Do not drink anything during the movie.

Eating some snacks should be ok.

Yep, especially the little moments like the setup for the Rey family name later on.

Probably the Kijimi section is the least necessary part of the movie. You'll miss out on a nice C-3PO moment, though, and some funnies with Babu Frik.

Tough because there are interactions between Rey and Kylo as well in Kijimi.

I ended up not getting anything to eat or drink from concessions because it had taken so long for me to find a parking space on opening night. I had to park quite far away and was nearly late to the showing despite sprinting across the lot. It turned out to be rather a good thing since the film itself moves at breakneck speed and I would've missed a lot had I needed to step out for a restroom break.

Just don't go to the cinema. This also goes for people who eat and drink during the movie, those who insist on bringing babies with them and those parents who have to narrate the story to the under nines.

And if you have a cold as well.

    Just don't go.

At least not to the same cinema as me this coming Monday.

or don’t go out if you don’t want to deal with people?

i drank too much Diet Coke and thought I had a safe opportunity and missed Kylo ren revealing Rey’s lineage. So for that reason —/ I go back tomorrow!

so yeah —— don’t go when they’re all on the star destroyer rescuing chewie.

I was hoping for more than just repeats of Bespin and Endor. Would've been cool if we saw Coruscant and how that's looking. Maybe they thought people would confuse it for Hosniam Prime. Ironic.

Jakku was cool, though. And oddly thematic with a Star Destroyer falling behind Star Destroyer wreckage. A metaphor for this trilogy.

Do it during Kimji. That's probably the least significant part of the movie even though Zorri Bliss is introduced and is quite hot.

Just do what i do at movies where i don't wanna miss anything. Don't eat or drink anything at least two hours prior to seeing the movie and for goodness sake don't buy any drinks before going in! Just grab some popcorn and get in there!

What if you have to make a deposit? Is there a good time for the longer trip to the bathroom? :)

“wesa free” has been a running joke in this house for years.

At your house. Before you drive to the theater. Then drop your car key down the drain, flush your ticket, lock yourself in the bathroom and cry.

Right before C3PO gets his memory wipe. Don't miss that part but the few minutes before are ok to miss if needed.
