    "Any of 'em savvy English?"

"Hey man, who the hell is this?"

    "All right, got any guns?"

    *pulls out elongated barreled pistol*

"Well, not against Lo Pan, but here's one for ya, make you feel like Dirty Harry."

If you still don't have a clue, this thread may not be for you. 8-}Yes, you guessed it. The unofficial discussion thread of John Carpenter's gem, Big Trouble In Little China of the JCC.

Wasn't the girl in Big Trouble the old blonde slag in Sex and the City when she was young and attractive?

Just listen to the ol' PorkChop Express an take his advice ona dark and stormy night alright. When some wildeyed eight-foot tall maniac grabs your neck taps the back of your favorite head up against a barroom wall an he looks you crooked in the eye an he asks if you've paid your dues. You just stair that big sucker right back in the eye and you remember what ole Jack Burton always says at a time like that. "Have you paid your dues, Jack" "Yes, sir,the check is in the mail."

Wasn't the girl in Big Trouble the old blonde slag in Sex and the City when she was young and attractive?

Wasn't this the first American film to portray the Kong Kong super martial arts action?

I love this flick, it's never boring.

    Hollow?

    Hollow.

    **** it.
    ------------------
You mean the ten foot roadblock Lo Pan or the little basket case on wheels?
    ------------------

All I know is that this Lo Pan character comes out of thin air in the middle of a goddamn alley while his buddies are flying around on wires cutting everybody to shreds while he just STANDS there waiting for me to drive my truck straight through him with LIGHT coming out of his mouth!
    -----------------
Jack Burton: ...and go off and rule the universe from beyond the grave...
    Lo Pan: Indeed!
Jack Burton: Or check into a psycho ward, which ever comes first huh.

I bit of trivia: This movie was originally the sequal to Buckaroo Banzai but was rewritten as we see it instead.

    "It's all in the reflexes."

Truly a classic movie that was completely unappreciated at its' time of release. That seems to be the norm with John Carpenter movies..

"Ok, you people! Sit tight, hold the fort and keep the home fires burning. And if we're not back by dawn... call the president."

Ah damn! You guys are stealing all the classic lines! :)

I'm already in the mood to watch it. This was my first dive into John Carpenter's world. Although at that time, long ago, I didn't know who John Carpenter was. This movie is quite simply the best sci-fi, martial arts, action duo, horror "b" movie of all time.

Kim Catrell is still hot. I don't care what anybody says. Is there really anything to dislike about the movie, you got Lo Pan, the three storms, hairy monsters, big rigs, lightning, skeletons, guns, swords, girls with green eyes, Egg Shen, magic potions, immortality, exploding bad guys, funky get-ups, etc.

    Kick ass!

If love the geek act Kurt Russel does when he goes to the brothel. Also the look he gives the storm (after his punches don't hurt him) is priceless.

Wow, I didn't think this would generate so much feedback. [face_shocked] :cool:The fighting scenes were supposedly revolutionary for this time, then films like The Matrx, Terminator 2: Judgement Day, etc. rolled out.

"Yeah, but it's real, and we can touch it, so at least we know where we stand."

Y'all are gonna hate me for taking all of these great Egg Shen quotes:

Jack Burton: That is not water.
Egg Shen: Black blood of the earth.
    Jack Burton: You mean oil.
Egg Shen: I mean black blood of the earth.

Egg Shen: Can see things no one else can see. Do things no one else can do.
    Jack Burton: Real things?
Egg Shen: As real as Lo Pan!
Jack Burton: Hey, what more can a guy ask for?
Egg Shen: Oh, a six-demon bag!
Jack Burton: Terrific, a six-demon bag. Sensational. What's in it, Egg?
Egg Shen: Wind, fire, all that kind of thing!

Wang Chi: A brave man likes the feel of nature on his face, Jack.
Egg Shen: Yeah, and a wise man has enough sense to get in out of the rain.

Jack Burton: What's in the flask, Egg? Magic potion?
    Egg Shen: Yeah.
Jack Burton: Thought so, good. What do we do? Drink it?
    Egg Shen: Yeah.
    Jack Burton: Good, thought so.

...hehe... everytime i see this thread on the top page, i'm gonna have to post to it...

Could you imagine "Big Trouble" in it's original form as the sequel to "Buckaroo Banzai" with Peter Weller in the lead?

I just can't do it...Russell just does such a great job playing the overconfident baffoon of a hero who's really the sidekick..

"Would you just stop rubbing your body up against mine, because I can't concentrate when you do that."

quick question: When Wang tries to slice that bottle in half, is he really hoping the bottle will fly up, hit Jack in the head and knock him out, allowing him to take all his money back? Or does he really think he can slice the bottle in half?

Here's another question: Is Egg Shen taking a bong hit at the end there, before he heads for the door?

This was on just last night. Can't be too impressed by it. The dialouge was too weird to take on. But I did tape it.

Oh was i happy when this movie came out on dvd...

    Wang Chi: Triple or nothing.
Jack Burton: I thought it was double or nothing.
    Wang Chi: You earned it.
    Jack Burton: You're right...I did.

    Great movie!

....if you listen to the DVD commentary by John Carpenter and Kurt Russell, they actually point out the exact moment in the film where it is that you'll decide, as a viewer, if you're gonna like this movie or no (it's the point where the three storms show up for the first time and do their forward somersaults)..

It's definitely not for all tastes..

Actually, i've always found that this film is a good character judge...

It's alot like "Army of Darkness".. If you like "Big Trouble", odds are you and i are gonna get along pretty well..

"Just remember what ol' Jack Burton does when the earth quakes, the poison arrows fall from the sky, and the pillars of Heaven shake. Yeah, Jack Burton just looks that big old storm right in the eye and says, "Give me your best shot. I can take it.""

This is one of the first movies I remember from my early childhood, great film. I found it at Wal-Mart on the $9.88 DVD rack a few months back, a great deal none the less.

If you don't like this movie...then you will be cast into the....

HELL OF THE UPSIDE DOWN SINNERS!!!!

    Chinese have alot of hells.

I PRESENT TO YOU THE GREATEST SCENE IN THE MOVIE:

*Lopan notices are group of heros and alerts his army*

    Jack:LOOK OUT,GUYS!

*Shots of all the various characters yelling and raising there weapons*

    Jack:HA HA HA!

    BANG BANG BANG

Pieces of the celling are shot off and land on Jacks head.

The battle begins and we see a shot of Jack lying on the ground knocked out cold. [face_laugh] [face_laugh] [face_laugh]

He is trying to chop the bottle in half. The look on his face is honest and the dialoge is said with shock not slyness or anything("it always works at home").These guys are best friends and Wang is a stand up guy like he proves threw out the movie.

Actually, i've always found that this film is a good character judge...

I agree with this and Kurt Russell has said the same thing.

if you listen to the DVD commentary by John Carpenter and Kurt Russell

Carpenter Russell dvd commentarys are best I've ever heard.

This is one of the first movies I remember from my early childhood, great film. I found it at Wal-Mart on the $9.88 DVD rack a few months back, a great deal none the less.

Was this the 2 disk or the single disk?

I believe the 2 disc version is out of print, unfortunately. Does anyone have it? Is the 2nd disc worth the extra ebay dollars?

I own the single disc version. I don't like the commentary very much, however, because Russel and Carpenter spend too much time talking about their kids and other stuff not related to the film.

    Egg isn't taken a 'bong hit'. I think he was smoking a pipe, but it wasn't crack or anything. 8-}
