Am I the only one that knows this great master of comedy?

Bill Hicks is with out question the most brilliant comedian ever, and Febuary 26 is will forever be a day of sorrow for me, the day that Bill Hicks passed away because of pancreatic cancer.

Nobody and nothing was safe or holy for this guy: christians, politicians, other comedians, pro-lifers, he advocated the legalization of Pot, he told numerous stories of his escapades while on LSD, mescalin and his favourit: Mushrooms.

If you know this guy, please share you love of him and if you have ever had the chance to see him, please give me a first hand impression of what he was like.

He died before I got into him, though I have ever CD that's been released in his name. Never fails to crack me up.

There was a bio of him, American Scream IIRC, which was absolutely fantastic.

If you're a fan I suggest checking out "Bill Hicks Live: Satirist, Social Critic, Stand-up Comedian" on DVD.
    It's a collection of 3 (4?) of his stand-up performances and it's frickin' great.

If you watch that DVD and then put in Denis Leary's "No Cure for Cancer" you'll be dismayed to find out that Leary ripped off over half of his act from Hicks. (Of course Sam Kinison and Andrew Dice Clay ripped him off too, so...) Often imitated - never duplicated.

Ah yes, Bill Hicks. A truly great comedian. And yes, many comedians nowadays borrow from his style heavily, and very few, if any, really get it right. The only one that I think is a worthy succesor to Hicks is David Cross.

Everything I've seen of Hicks is terrific, I really should buy his DVD.
