As many of you know, the popular franchises of Predator and Aliens have merged into many stories over the years, in both videogames, novels and comic books.

    [image=http://www.madreview.com/images7/cover_predator.jpg]

What I don't hear mentioned is this disastrous continuity concern, which is either a huge plothole that no one could have foreseen, or the binding link between the two universes. I speak of course about actor Bill Paxton, who plays different characters across the timeline in both universes!

How can this be? Shouldn't the entire space-time continuam collapse under the weight of this massive and monstrous paradox? Or is police officer Jerry Lambert ( Paxton in Predator 2 ) simply an ancestor of the legendary Marine Private W. "Game over, man" Hudson in Aliens?

Something I ponder, late at night.

If Kevin Smith's cast members can be different characters in the same universe, why not Bill Paxton?

'Course, Kevin Smith's never explained two different characters with the same name, but...

    Rick McCallum loves you!

Bill Pullman was the president in "Independence Day" and Lonestar in "Spaceballs". Bill Paxton was in Apollo 13, Titanic, Tombstone and Weird Science. There's a difference between the two actors.

Maybe Paxton is really a time traveler from the distant future and he's come here to grace us with his acting expertise when the current acting pool talent level is lower than the water level of the Colorado River

Sadly, I too have pondered this question. I believe I settled on the 'he's a relative' theory. But is it not possible, in the history of the world during which billions upon billions of people pass through, that two blokes look exactly the same? Hmmm

You've got to let this go, or else the bigger problem of two different actors (or more) as the same character in the same universe would destroy the universe many times over.

This paradox could also relate to the fact that The guy who playes the fat CIA agent guy in "Goldeneye" and "Tommorow Never Dies", also plays the bad guy in "The Living Daylights".

EDIT: In regards to what Stinrab said about 2 people looking exactly alike throughout history. Well when I was 10 I saw an 18th century painting of some children. One of the kids in the painting looked dead on exactly like me, same hair, face, eyes, height in regards to age. It was one of the most eerie things I ever saw.

I concluded that the child who posed for the painting 3 centuries ago, must have been a direct ancestor of mine. It's still pretty weird though.

`Something I ponder, late at night.'

You think about this man late at night do you? [face_mischief]

    I don't think you're thinking about paradoxes. :D

But if you think about it, Bill Paxton dosen't even really play different characters. They are all "Chet" with varying degrees of senstitivity.

That's funny, I dont remember Bill Paxton being in either of these films. Ah well, it has been a while since Ive seen either one.

So, how does True Lies fit into all of this ?

There actually was a Terminator v Aliens v Predator comic miniseries.

    BTW you forgot Lance Henrikson.

    Bishop in Aliens
2nd in command cop in Terminator

I was going to mention the Terminator link (remember that Bishop (android in Aliens) also played a cop in Terminator). Things just get too confusing [face_plain]

The same happens in the Star Tr*k Universe. You see various people playing different characters in TNG, DS9 and Voyager. Tuvok was a human in the Generations movie, and Tom Paris was someone else in an episode of TNG.

I can suspend my belief :)

p.s. on another note, I was interested to see what happened to the girl that played Newt in Aliens. Seems she didn't do another acting job after Aliens, and is now at University somewhere doing Business Studies or something. She keeps incontact with Sigorney though :)

I thought Aliens was the best of all of them. A true classic, IMO.

I agree Aliens is my fav too. Although Alien is perhaps the true classic as far as sci-fi horror movies go. Remember, it came out a short while after a certain space saga written by George Lucas.

I love Predator, Aliens and Terminator all as equals. They are the three greatest Sci fi/Action movies of the 1980's.

The only other two action movies to come close are Die Hard or Lethal Weapon.

What about the woman who played Vasquez in Aliens? Jeanette...something, I think. She was also John Connor's foster mom in T2. Don't think she ever showed up in any Predator movies though.

Aliens vs Predator would rock as a movie. They'd need to do it properly, so it didn't come out like a dodgy comic franchise :)

I think they should leave it at that, and not include Terminator, otherwise there would be too many main characters (unless of course, the Terminators were the good guys).

There would be other problems - the different time lines (do the set it in the future, or present day ?) and who to include from the original movies.

Perhaps axe everyone from the old movies - start with new actors getting chased around by Predators and Aliens - while the Aliens and Predators are fighting each other too.

    Oh, the possibilites are endless.

    Please, someone make the movie

I've always believed that Maria Alonso's character in Predator 2 is an ancestor of Vasquez. Freaky!

What a strange convulated universe we have here :p

I thought it was common knowledge that all marines in the future were regenerative clones of people who at one time died on the subway amid odd circumstances and blinky lights.
