Need help categorizing the species because I don't know if using the classification system from Earth will be considered an earthism.

Forgive me for sounding stupid, I slept an hour and half last night, but what do you need help with? Yes, I know the classifications, but what species in particular? :)

Well, I doubt you would find a Felis Catus or a Canus Lupus in a GFFA.

You could conceivably create your own classifications (kingdom, genus, species, etc.) for such creatures as the Rancor, Womp Rat, Acklay, etc. Or are your referring to Humans, Wookiees, etc?

If so, humans are already classified: Homo Sapien.

In the "Essential" books, there is already a rogh classification :

    sentient
    semi-sentient
    non-sentient

To us earthlings this might sound somewhat strange, but what if this classification scheme was used in the GFFA "replacing" our "Kingdoms" scheme ?

You could also build up a scheme based on genetics; at least this would be clearer. ;)

    Alrik.

I tend to think it would roughly resemble our classifications, but also be far more advanced and extensive. After all, just ours is being constantly revised. (I was completely confused last year when studying bio and I discovered that Monera had split since seventh grade Life Science. 8-}) So, to assume that a far more advanced society would still be using a system identical to today's would be silly, but I don't believe that a complete remodeling would be necessary. Tricky.

Also, I just thought of this: (A bit off topic, sorry) Would Twi'leks be considered Homo sapiens as well? Since species is defined as two organisms that can reproduce, and apparently Twi'leks and humans can mate...

Then again, where would the sentient/non-sentient thing go, anyway? I'd assume it would be between Kingdom and Phylum, since I've never heard of a sentient plant or bacteria or something (I have a feeling I'm overlooking something, though.), but it also could go way down on the list since "Homo sapiens" means "person who thinks."

Now that I think about it, a complete remodeling might actually be necessary, since the sentient/non-sentient thing separates Homo erectus, Homo habilis, and Homo sapiens, when they're normally in the same genus.

Maybe I'm thinking into this too much. ;)

As for Vergere... I really don't know. I'm not really that familiar with the NJO. Sorry I couldn't be more help. :(

edit: GAH! *headdesk* Please forgive my post-Christmas grammar.

All living things are either sentient, semi-sentient, or non-sentient.

C-3P0 is sentient. That doesn't make him a living creature. Earth biology doesn't work in star wars

Vergere, I should think, Is Homo Avainis. :p

The feathered avian, Vergere of the NJO series was a member of the Fosh species.

    There! :D

C-3PO sentient ? That' new to me.

Still, we are droids, too - our programming is based upon our DNA. ;)
