Yes. As the title suggests I need blood. For a vampire film.
It's for a club, and we've got a budget of about 1000 bucks. And I'm hoping to get blood for a cheep price. SO does anybody know some good fake blood mimicries. Anything that looks like blood or if you know where to buy movie style fake blood for cheap.

edited thread title to be less shouty

Make your own, its pretty cheap

    Buckets o' Blood

    1 Liter Corn Syrup
    5 Liters Water
2 or 3 Tablespoons Red Food Coloring
1/2 Teaspoon Blue Food Coloring (optional)
    A slosh of milk
    2 Tablespoons clear dish soap

The dish soap is a MUST< makes cleanup a breeze.

    Heres the smaller recipee
16 oz. White corn syrup (Karo syrup - this is a US product, but adding golden syrup does the job just as well, alternatively just mix sugar and water and reduce on the stove until it becomes syrupy)
    1 oz. red food coloring
    1 oz. washing detergent
    1 oz. water

Hit Google up, and I think there may be a tut or two in the sticky thread, too. Fake blood's easy to make, it just depends on the consistency you want and the effect you're going for.

IC, if it's easy to make that saves the budget.
Only problem is how much can I make at once with that recipe TRIXTER

and The viscocity is probably that of like well blood. But more drippy.
And it shouldn't look like a wine stain like the blood in BOONDOCKS saints. JUst imagine any photo shout with MCR.

And im currently googling fake blood. I'm suprised at the results, some sells blood. I think it's real

As much as you want, just vary the proportions. Use your imagination, too.

Its really great stuff, want more runny, add more water. Want it more slow moving, add less water.
I even madea batch with vodka so it wouldnt freeze when we were filming in winter. As for how much it makes, Funk-E has it riight, as much or as little as you want.

Ive made up to 5 gallons at once.

IC, well I may be making alot. How do you store it, refrigerated or room temp. Also how's it on clothing and for clean up, also is it safe to drink?
    Does the blood stain everything.

For Kabumei we went through about twenty gallons of blood. Because I happen to be allergic to bee stings, I didn't want to use the corn syrup recipe, as it is sweet and attracts insects. It's also sticky.

So we invented something that works well, keeps forever, isn't sticky, is non-toxic and is actually cheaper. Stains, though.

The secret is Xanthan gum. It's a thickener found in health food stores. It's a white powder, and a teaspoonful in a blender full of cold water will give you a blender full of snot. Three blenders of this transparent mucus can be dumped in a five gallon bucket and water added to fill the bucket, stir with a paint stirrer. You will now have water the thickness and consistency of blood. Simply color to taste, We had to go bright for Kabumei so the stuff would show up against those black uniforms, but you can make dark red with two bottles of red food coloring and a few drops of green per five-gallon bucket. Red iron oxide (rust; sold as concrete coloring powder at hardware stores) can be added sparingly to make it opaque. Since red iron oxide is what makes real blood red, this is a legitimate addition, and when the fake blood dries, it will be dark red-brown, like real blood.

Did I mention that it stains? :)

Anyway, this is a good way to make vast amounts of blood for cheap. The red food coloring is the most expensive ingredient.

no, the blood doesnt stain, thats what the soap is for, and it IS ok to drink, if you like drinking dish soap. I usually make a seperate batch minus the dish soap if were using it for the mouth.
And as for storing, any sealed container, keep at room temp

    Quick recipe for authentic blood:
    1) Go to your local mall and lay down several sheets of Bounty paper towels on the ground.
    2) Put on a costume to make you look like a Spartan from the movie "300", make sure you have a spear or sword plus shield.
    3) Let chaos ensue.
    4) Ring the blood-soaked paper towels into buckets.
    5) Run like all heck.

Disclaimer: This method may be prohibited in most states (except maybe Texas).

Pig blood. Get it at a butcher house, or at a big factory that makes sausages, and, stuff.

I'm the kinda human wreckage that you love...lol MCR

And Kabumei's blood method seems cool. The iron oxide is beyond our reaches. We don't rele know how to get it. But it seems interesting. If you could PM me ,DetFilms, I'd like to get a step by step on how to make it.

I took someones suggestion once and asked a butcher in person. I got the "Are you crazy?" look and it took 30 minutes of explaining to make them realize it was for a student film.

Yea... so, from experience: cornstarch, red food dye and green dish soap, gives you the best looking. But if you want it in gallons as you said, that'll be costly.

For iron oxide: Go to a hardware store and ask for it. Like Detfilms said, it's used as a concrete pigment, and some places use it as a paint pigment, too.

Yeah, but good luck powdering it down fine enough and making it uniform enough to use as a pigment.

If you need your actors to put it in their mouths - cacoa powder works. Together with spit it looks... funny. You could add some kinda food colouring or any red-juiced fruit.

It's funny what people say looks like real blood. I find it all depends. When I get cut on the hand and blood comes out it's one thing, but if I get my blood taken and the tube fills up with blood it's another. I'm also noticing fake blood on screen a lot more now.

I'll notice when it looks bluish and clear, and I'll just think "they should have added milk" or something along those lines.

What I've learned from on set of two films what they used for blood:

Corn starch (try for white rather than golden, because golden is transparent), red food coloring, depending on the type of blood either go for a drop or two of blue, or of yellow (I prefer more of an orangy type of blood), or some say green to help make it darker, and here's the kicker, rather than chocolate powder like some say, use chocolate sirop, it works the same, but better. I was told this by an experienced special effects artist here in Montreal.

If you're making gallons of the stuff, add water to the mix as well, as gallons of corn starch would cost too much.

If you want to eat it, make it like that, if not, then add dish soap so as to wash it off. Mayeb make a small batch to eat, then loads of the stuff with dish soap.

Hmm...now that i have the various recipes I see there's a few ways to go...The look i want is a dark blood, that will still look very much a red color (the type you'd expect to see in an MCR photo shoot). I may make seperate batches one for drinking one for show.
And I'm assuming you don't need to refrigerate this stuff. right

All refrigerating does is prevent germs and mold and such, and the dish soap should do that already. Unless you intend to drink it shouldn't be a problem anyway.
