    Hey,
I just picked up the vader mask and voice changer at my local toys r us. Anyways the chest box is pretty cool. It would work great for a vader costume and it plays the breathing noise and a couple of quotes from vader such as "dont make me destroy you", "your powers are weak" "if you only knew the power of the dark side" and "the force is with you"

Now onto the part everyone "might" be excited about. The voice changer. In a nut shell the voice changer sucks. Inside of the helmet is a microphone but your voice sounds muffled when heard and you can hear your voice inside of the helmet while your speaking and you can hear your voice before the chest box voice comes out. You can change the level of the pitch (3 levels). It doesnt really sound descent unless it is set on the 1st pitch. The mic really gets muffled from your breathing. I'm guessing if you had a helmet well insulated and put some microphone wind screen over the mic it might sound okay. The helmet itself is okay but it has tons and I mean tons of breathing holes all over it so it ruins the helmet. Anyways I just bought it for the chest pack because I didn't feel like making one. I am making my own belt however. Anyways if anyone wants more info let me know.

so it's basically a mask and chest box, right? i haven't actually seen one at the store yet.

i'm wondering about the mask. is it a full helmet? more importantly, is it sized small for kids or will it fit on an adult head? i'm a big guy (6'2") and on the heavy side, so i'm not expecting it to fit me well.

the only reason i'm interested is that i'd love to have a super-cheap vader costume to wear when i take my daughter trick-or-treating next year. i figure one i've got the helmet, the rest could be thrown together. i'm not exactly concerned about realism. thanks for any help.

This sucks Bantha balls! I was really looking forward to buying this... =(

So there are holes all over the helmet? That sucks as well... I was hoping it would be somewhat like the Don Post Darth Vader helmet. The holes near the mouthpiece should have sufficed. It's not like we're gonna sufficate in that thing. Are the holes really noticeable, or only if you look at it up super close?

And what do you mean you can hear your voice before the darth vader voice comes out? So it's always like an echo? Even to the people listening to you or only to the person wearing it? If it's the latter I guess I can live with that (actually, it's makes sense really) but if the people I'm talking to also always hears me say the same thing twice (once with my voice and again with the darth vader voice) then that's just crap and maybe I'll reconsider buying this.

Care to shed some more light? Thanks. =)

I bought this, but haven't played around with it yet. Depending on how things go today, I hope to play around with it. The size is from age 5 to adult, so we'll see how it fits me since I'm 6'4. I'll let you know how it works, looks, et all.

Yeah, the changed voice (which comes out of the chest box) is a half second or so delayed from your own voice. So it sounds like a garbled echo.
The holes aren't that bad. They are covered by the helmet. But even with all those holes, it's hard to breath in that thing! You really do sound like Vader trying to breath in it. And the eye lenses keep fogging up on me. Can't wear my glasses in it either but other may have better luck. I've got really wide glasses, and a big head.

I was thinking about getting one for the heck of it. The idea of a DV helmet with voice synthesizer is intriguing, but if its not all that it originally sounded like, then I don't think I'm going to get one.

I'm wearing it as I write this, so it fits my 7 1/2 size head pretty well. This helmet fits much better with my glasses on than my old roommates helmet. This one is actually pretty comfortable. The voice changer has three different settings, so you have to toy with it and speak softer than normal to get it to work the best. I can actually see pretty well without fog problems out the lenses, but my view is pretty distorted, but it's really only a problem when you're trying to read something. Basically, the price is pretty good especially with the additional voice effects even if you don't want to use the voice changer. The holes in question are in the bottom of the helmet so the wearer can breathe, but they don't look too bad. The tricky part is adjusting to the weight of the voice changer. The adjustable helmet is wonderful. I was worried about whether or not it would fit me, but that is no longer a concern.

Sorry guys, I've been a little busy this weekend. Yah the voice changer sux. The holes in the mask are underneath around the chin/neck but I still think there are too many. I have one of those rubies masks, and what I did was cut out the crappy grilling that was connected to the mouth piece, and added custom grilling and then I painted my mask in the right paint scheme and waxed it. I'm using the chest box and microphone from this vader helmet for my rubies mask. Also for my rubies mask I made custom tusks from i.v. caps and 2 screws and some body putty. I'm working right now on my custom fiberglass armor. Once that is I still have a ton left. I need to finish my belt, my shin guards, my body suit, cape, inner cape and gloves. Anyways to make a long story short the only thing I'm using this mask for is the chest box with the noises and the microphone. Oh and about the eye pieces for this vader mask. They suck. You can see right through them. I was wearing it outside in my backyard and my brother said he could see right in the mask. Definately worth the money if your making a vader costume, not worth your time if you want to "sound" like vader. Its a love hate relationship for me.

    Oh and guys,
I'm tall, 6'4 but the mask fits me just fine. Its a full mask that is adjustable. Since the Don Post masks are hard to come by this is a nice alternative. I'd probably fill in the air holes and add some tinting to the eye pieces and spray paint the tusks so they are more silverish. Oh and if your a die hard like me, give the mask the authentic paint scheme.

That actually sounds like a good idea radner. Theres hope for this Darth Vader Helmet yet. =)

This helmet fits much better than the old Don Post one on me, so I recommend it for that reason.

I'm wearing it as I write this LOL
So this is a Darth Vader Mask and Helmet that you wear? I saw it in the store, but I had no idea that you wear the thing! Sounds interesting enough to buy and add to my ever growing collection

I wasn't even thinking about getting this thing for a few reasons. First is the size. You guys say you are big guys and it gits you fine. But for me, my head size is almost 8", and I have a hard enough time finding hats to fit. So I doubt it would go that big. Secondly is the money. Yes, it seems cheap, but some of us are on a budget. So, looks like a pass for me.

My head is almost a size 8, too, and the helmet will barely fit. I have to take the strap out of the mask, which makes it all a bit unstable and I can't have my glasses on.
It's cool, it's fun. Would have been more worth it too me if we actually had any trick or treaters come to the house this year, but at the moment that $35 is sitting on the floor (too big for the shelf till I can make room) and collecting dust till next halloween.
Stuff like this is fun for about 30 minutes after you've bought it, but after that you're thinking "Man, I wish I had that $35 for some taco's right now."

I bought it last night for my 5 year old son for Christmas and trust me, he is going to freak when he opens it on Christmas morning. We don't get a very good selection of SW toys where we live so by my standard this helmet rocks!!

The breathing and movie quotes are great and even though I haven't taken it out of the box I'm sure the voice changer will be great for a 5 year old. And for what I consider a kid's toy I think its a pretty good looking Vader helmet compaired to some of the stuff out there. For a collector's point of view, I'm not sure what to tell you, guess it depends on what you are willing to spend.

I've seen it and it looks pretty cool, but I think
I'll pass. Besides, knowing my luck, not only will
it change my voice, but It'll give me acne and
    facial hair as well.

yeah i bought the voice changer for the chest box to add to my costume as well it has nice articulation on the control rods and coin slots but nothing lights up and the proportions to my helmet(rubies deluxe limited edition) are all wrong so after meticulous repacking(tellin ya they reeeeallly over packaged this item) i got my 35 bucks back. the helmet seems to be based off the don post basic $35.00 cheapie helmet+it does have a better level of articulation than that bucket,in that it has better looking sensor billets or tusks.

This has to be one of the most shameless SW products out there along with those Taco Bell TPM cups.
