Sky News are just announcing that Jeremy Beadle has died after a short battle with pneumonia.

No news link yet - it's literally just breaking.

    Edit - BBC Story

Television presenter and prankster Jeremy Beadle has died aged 59.
One of ITV's most popular hosts during the 1980s, Beadle had been suffering from pneumonia and was admitted to a London hospital last week.

He was best known for fronting variety show Game For a Laugh and the hidden camera programme Beadle's About.

In recent years he had battled poor health after being diagnosed with a mild form of leukaemia in 2005. He also had a cancerous kidney removed.

Don't really have any feelings either way about the guy as I don't know him but the poor sod certainly had a bit of a rough time over the last few years!

I think one of his shows was running on ITV when I first moved to the UK. I watched it occasionally if nothing else was on. I've never been a fan of the 'hidden camera'-type shows. He was pretty good presenting You've Been Framed though.

    @};- RIP

some of Beadle's About was absolute gold - real loss to british entertainment.

can I make the joke about Beadle's penis, or would that be in bad taste?

Heard about this in the pub, but to be honest, this bothers me a lot less than Heath Ledger or the Curry from Hell guy dying. It's sad he's dead, though, and my sympathies go out to his family.

Pneumonia is much more dangerous then a lot of people realise.

Marlon Brando's son recently died from it, Heath Ledger was said to have had it at the time of his death, and I believe Jim Henson also died from it.
So much for an illness that is supposedly to be easy to cure.

RIP Jeremy, your work for charity and your great sense of humour will be missed @};-

I remember he was on some reality type documentary a few years back where he went to stay with some family for a week or so. Obviously the idea was that the family (like the public in general) had already made their minds up about how he was going to be.
I don't mind admitting that I was as surprised as anyone at what a sound chap he seemed to be :(
At least I can rest now knowing that he's not going to be winding me up secret-style one day, 'cos I'd be one of the ones that lamped him [face_laugh]

    Gonna miss you Jeremy. RIP.

Autopsies not yet complete on Brando and Ledger, Henson died of toxic shock syndrome.

"Pneumonia is a common illness which occurs in all age groups, and is a leading cause of death among the elderly and people who are chronically and terminally ill."

Healthy people do not normally die of pneumonia. Freddy Mercury died of pneumonia (HIV Aids), Pavarotti died of pneumonia (pancreatic cancer), Jeremy Beadle was a leukaemia sufferer.

The actor Heath Ledger died of an accidental overdose of prescription drugs, the New York city medical examiner ruled today.
