    Trailer

So this looks like it might be neat. Is it Starz's answer to HBO's upcoming Game of Thrones?

All I can say is it better have a solid storyline. Spartacus was all over the place and I couldn't watch more than two episodes of the thing. This is my favourite legend. Merlin's done to much to make Arthurian "popular," and "politically correct," for today's P.C driven audience.

Let's hope this version of the legend is a little more realistic and entertaining...or at the very least tries to be.

Anyone else remember when t.v used to try?

    Probably.

Considering not many people know about George R. R. Martin's universe as compared to how many people grew up on "King Arthur" and "Camelot", it could be a cheap snipe at the same genre and the networks grubbing for ratings. However, that being said, winter is coming. That's all that needs to be said.

Please expand on these complaints. Specific examples perhaps?

TV right now is pretty awesome, actually. I'd go so far as to say we live in a Golden Age of the television drama, (hell, comedy as well), particularly where the cable and premium channels' offerings are concerned. So I'm not really sure what you're on about. Perhaps you could give some examples of shows you like and dislike so I can make fu-er, so I have an idea of your likes and dislikes.

My problem with Merlin? Let me begin my less than P.C derision against it.

Guinevere.Slave girl and daughter of a blacksmith. (Also appears to be of African decent as do several other knights. Okay, I am not being racist here, but, apart from the odd Moor, England was predominately caucasian, as was Arthur's court.) But her race has nothing to do with it, it's being the daughter of a blacksmith that I have the biggest argument against.

Merlin's age is another annoying point, as is Arthur being raised in court with his father, Uther. It might as well be a teen soap opera, Arthur is the jock, Guinevere is the brainy girl, Merlin the dork who befriends the jock. Uther the angry father and Morgana the hot girl. [face_plain] I watched Dawson's Creek as a teenager, I don't need a repeat in medieval times.

o_O An idea, huh? Well I'm convinced modern writers have no or limited imagination or originality. And it shows. In the past fifteen years ideas have been re-hatched, reheated, readdressed and shoved down our proverbial necks ad nauseam. I'll agree that there are a few good comedy shows floating around, but that is where the line pretty much gets drawn.

Even within the comedy genre, things are not all that great. Futurama is very good, but The Simpsons have gone stale. The Big Bang theory again is great as is The Office. Supernatural has it's good episodes, and pretty much anything the BBC throws out, (Top Gear, Ashes to Ashes,) is excellent.

Big, overblown budgeted shows like Spartacus seem to lose their storyline plot very quickly. I don't think it's the actors, I think it's the writers who are to blame. I'm standing by that, I'm not going to argue that my idea of entertainment might be completely different from yours, everyone has different tastes...I just don't like what is being offered generally now, in drama in particular.

I agree about "Merlin". That show is lame.

Traffic Light and Raising Hope are also awesome comedies.

I just read Aiel's description of Merlin and died a little inside. I'm so glad I never watched.
