I know these quotes were used in the Extended Mix of Two Tribes by Frankie goes to Hollywood, but I remember reading them in a poem at school.

    Here they are:

When you hear the air attack warning, you and your family must take cover
at once. Do not stay out of doors. If you are caught in the open, lie
down. And now here is a reminder about fallout warnings. When fallout is
expected, you will hear three bangs in short succession, like this... In
some areas the warning may be given by means of three gongs, like this...
Or you may hear three whistles. All these three types of sounds indicate
    that fallout is expected.

    And also:

If your grandmother or any other member of the family should die whilst
in the shelter, put them outside, but remember to tag them first for
    identification purposes.

Does anyone else know the origin? Anyone else read the poem? Remember the name, or the name of the author?

I'd love to know so I can track down the entire script of it.

    :D

Well, funnily enough, it seems to have come from a leaflet issued by the British Government in 1980, called 'Protect and survive', but I can't find the full text anywhere. However, I did find some interesting parodies...

    That Frankie track rocks though.

I remember, back when it was released, I was a wee boy of 8 tender years, that I particularly reacted to the bit where Chris Barrie(later famous as Rimmer, in Red Dwarf) impersonated Reagan.

    Very clever, he said:

"You may pronounce us guilty a thousand times over, but the goddess of
the eternal court of history will smile and tear to tatters the brief of
the state prosecutor and the sentence of this court -- for she aquits us."

I remember that sending a shiver down my spine back then, because those words were originally spoken by Adolf Hitler, at his trial for treason in 1924. As a young lad, hearing that had a profound effect upon me, since, by making a comparison between the two statesmen, it seemed apparent, even to a youngster, that Frankie were implying that Reagan's Nuclear Policy was tantamount to precipitating a modern Holocaust.

    Nasty.

Still I was always fascinated by nuclear war, in the shadow of the Cold War, as a pre-teen youngster. I think it stemmed from reading Judge Dredd's Apocalypse War. Classic.

In any event, just about half an hour ago, I found this delicious parody of HM Government's Home Office Pamphlet 'Protect and Survive'.

Worth a read for a laugh. Scary because it seems so almost too accurate to be a parody. It's cool.

Bad news for me though. Apparently:

"No part of the United Kingdom can be considered safe from both the direct effects of the weapons and the resultant fall-out. Not even Swindon."

Ahh! Swindon's where I live!
