It seems like most of the time the male birds are more beautiful than the females. The only species of bird I can think of where it's reversed is the eclectus parrot.

    Here's the male:

    Here's the female:

Since usually in the bird world, it's the male that's trying to attract the female and the female needs to be able to hide from preditors, especially if nesting with young...it's probably a rare situation.

I can't think of any off the top of my head.

I would imagine the female of the species is always more beautiful than the male...

if you're a male bird, that is. Otherwise, pluck 'em and throw 'em on the grill.

Don't forget the peacock, versus the rather modest-looking peahen.

Well it's not just birds. In most of the animal kingdom (including birds and insects etc.), it is the male that has to attract the female to pass on the genes.

In humans is where it is the complete opposite and the female has to attract the male.

I think female tits are a lot nicer to look at than male tits.

The Male might be prettier but everyone knows

The Female of the Species is more deadlier than the male

The Huia (now extinct) of New Zealand have no discernible plumage differences, but they have different beaks (and foraged for food in a different manner). The female's long, slendr curved beak could be seen aesthetically as more beautiful than the mails short sharp beak. But that's more a human interpretatin of 'beauty' and has nothing to do with attracting a mate.

There are many species where the male is more beautiful, but the female is more not dead. The Cardinal, for example. The only reason it's bright red is to lead predators away from the female and the nest. That's manipulation right there.

Actually, to the poster who stated that human females are the rare example of female "having" to attract males, there is more than an as*ahem*BUSload of evidence to the contrary. The general thought is that in most warm blooded species, it's the male who works to find mates, and the female who picks and chooses. I mean, think about the stereotype, even.
That being said, there are some Birds of Paradise who's females outshine the males - by the living room coordinating, human standards.
