I wonder this because of the scene where one is riding that big bird-like animal but first they are under water.

I would imagine so. They live on a water planet, so it stands to reason that they'd evolved to breath underwater.

...and yet they live on raised platform cities.

Hmmm, I am not sure whether or not they can breathe underwater. Any EU buffs out there?

    Mace Windy,
    too windy for spoilers!

    lol. Stand by

Looks like my theory has been shot to pieces:

The Kaminoans had been developing cloning technology for many centuries prior to the Clone Wars. This technology was developed shortly after the Great Flood, when the Kaminoans struggled to survive the global warming of their planet. Genetic manipulation and cloning ensured that the Kaminoans remained a strong and viable species.

Centuries before the Battle of Geonosis, the planet's surface was made up of flat landmasses that were separated by choppy oceans. A sudden rise in planetary temperature caused the polar caps to melt completely, submerging all the landmasses under roiling oceans of water in an event known the Great Flood. The native Kaminoans adapted by building stilted cities that stuck out of the water, sitting above the waves on thin, sturdy columns that provided little resistance to the water.

Looks like there's yr explaination for the cities

i don't know if they can breathe underwater; If they can't they can probably hold their breath for a really long time.

Kamino is a pretty mysterious place. Maybe, there was a training facility underneath the ocean and that Kaminoan had to get to the surface so it ascended quickly on that bird.
    just a thought.

They can breathe equally well in air or water.

I always assumed they could just hold their breath for a really long time like all other Earthly aquatic mammals (seals, walrus, whales, etc...).

But I'm probably wrong, as usual. :p

-the databank says that their head fins are an evolutionary throwback to their roots in the ocean. i would surmise that they can breathe both above and below, or at the very least for a long time under water. the facility is above water though because the clones can't be cloned underwater due to decompression and stuff like that. while the kaminoans probably could have come up with some way around this, it is probably more cost effective and leaves the clones less likely to mutate if they are cloned above the seas.

Freaky, man. The planet is all water. Jesus, i can't imagine all those creatures crawling around under there. If i saw one under water i'd probably pee on it.

Well if they could breathe underwater they wouldnt of almost been exticnt in the great flood, thus they woul dbe living under the water.

I wonder if the Kaminoans even come from Kamino. How is it possible to live in a world FULL of water and building up cities in and above the water? Wouldn´t it be more realistic, if they moved to this planet?

It's probably not 100% water. There are probably archipelagoes of islands and coral reefs and whatnot.
