I recently bought a Canon Gl1 and I also have a Sony VX1000, I was wondering in your opinion which is the better camera.

If you have both, why don't you try them out and tell us?

Nothing's better than comparing them side by side.

As far as I know, the sony has better low light performance, while the GL-1 has better glass. The both shoot frame mode, but Sony's is only 15fps while Canon's is 30fps. The sony create's color bars and both have the zebra pattern to check exposures. I know the sony has a few more shutter speeds, down to 1/15th I think while the Canon won't go below 1/60th, but I think it goes higher, something like 1/4000th vs. the sony 1/2000th (I'm not sure about that.)

Both have the same external controls and such, offering two 12bit audio tracks or one 16bit audio track.

I believe that the GL-1 offers a better picture (especially while stabilizing) than the sony, but again not as good low-light performance.

    Hope some of that helps.

Has anyone shot with a Panasonic AG-DVX100A yet?

It shoots in 24p, and sounds quite impressive, but I figured I should ask around before investing.

Yeah ... it's like saying "I have a BMW and a Benz ... which one should I drive on Sunday?" :p
If you hadn't already done your research, why did you buy the GL1 ??

I had money and it was cheap, reason i ask this is because my uncle is offering me to buy the Vx1000 off me, so im wondering if I should just stick with the GL or stick with both.

From what I have read and heard, the GL-1 is your best bet at that level. :D

    Rebel Scumb~

I have a DVX, not the A model, but the differences aren't in it's visual quality (with the addition of I believe two more gamma settings, the other main differences are color bars, auto focus, and gain control all in 24p, where the initial model had these features disabled in 24p).

I don't regret getting it for a second. Feel free to PM, IM, or Email me if you'd like to know more, see stills, clips, etc.

I have a GL1. The best feature of it for me, by far, is the optical image stabilization. Key word there is OPTICAL. Digital doesn't hold a candle to what this baby can do, with absolutely no reduction in resolution.

The GL2 only makes it better, with better sound (built-in channel monitors on the side), higher resolution, and (haha) more rounded corners. I'd sell the Sony and save up for a GL2. Or if you think you can get by with just one camera (but realize that once you can utilize two, you'll never want to go back to one!) sell them both and get a GL2 (~$1700 retail).

In terms of framerate, 24fps is a nice convenience, but I have my reservations about Panasonic's way of doing it (since it's still recorded the same way on the DV tape as 30fps, I've heard stories about audio slipping in and out of sync).

While we're on the same note:

I'm looking for a camera in the $2000 price range and was debating between a Cannon Gl2 and a Sony VX-2100. Any opinions?

Gosh I hope I spelled that right. Anyways, if you can, I'd save a bit more and try and get the panasonic 24p camera, the AG-DVX100A, from what I hear, it's incredibly nice. I've seen a nice kit on Ebay for just over 3000. Don't know how long it would take to save up for that, but it's a thought.

Or you could really save and get the XL2 when it comes out.

DVXa... hmmm should i sell my DVX for a DVXa?

"This advanced new model takes the DV camera a big step forward, retaining the popular features of its predecessor while adding enhancements that reflect feedback from professionals who used the AG-DVX100.The AG-DVX100A offers higher image quality and more functions than its predecessor."

hmmm how much "Higher" image quality are we talking here?

I actually did comsider a higher end camera for sometime (in the 3000 dollar price range) but disconsidered it for serveral reasons:

    1. I am very impatient and with my current job it's going to take all summer just to get the 2000 dollars. Unless you want to send me some money...

    2. Interchangable lenses are nice, but there's a big catch: You need to spend MORE money to take advantage of it (Lens=$$$)... I do like 24p though.... if it were only cheaper....
