I went to Cedar Point a couple weeks ago, and I saw a huge space where a couple of rides used to be. Now I know why they took down those rides.

Crikey! I'm not a big fan of roller coasters, so I don't go on many, but when I went to Cedar Point a couple years ago, I remember Millennium Force looking like a freaking skyscraper. This thing should be huge.

I live a few hours away as well and I plan on going next year, that new coaster sounds like it will be great and few park expierences can equal riding in the front car of the Millenium Force...

I wish a mod would come and edit the initial post so that the pictures were next to each other. Having them stacked like that is pretty annoying.

    Cedar Point

Ohio's Roller Coaster Capital of the World!
    By Carma Haley Shoemaker (Travelingtoday.com)

Listed in the Guinness Book of Records for both "Most Rides at a Theme Park" and "Most Roller Coasters at a Theme Park" and most recently as "Park of the Year" in the Coaster's Choice Awards, Cedar Point, located on a Lake Erie peninsula midway between Cleveland and Toledo in Sandusky, Ohio, has quickly become one of America's most popular amusement parks. Cedar Point is sure to be one of the most exciting trips of the year.

    The Coasters
Cedar Point was "born" in July 1870 with various small attractions. Currently, Cedar Point has 15 roller coasters, including the recent addition of the Wicked Twister in April 2002. The Wicked Twister is the world's tallest and fastest "double-twisting" impulse roller coaster that launches riders to a maximum speed of 72 mph. The coaster propels riders backward and forward on a U-shaped track that has 450-degree corkscrews on top of a 215-foot-high tower.

Another coaster, Millennium Force, holds 10 of its own records including those for speed, topping out at 92 mph, and largest vertical drop, which is 310 feet at an 80-degree angle. In addition, Millennium Force is the first roller coaster on Earth to break the 300-foot-high barrier.

Understanding the concept of a roller coaster with a height of 310 feet and a speed of 92 mph is easier by comparison. For example, the Millennium Force roller coaster is 5 feet taller than the Statue of Liberty and is 73 feet taller then the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. In addition, the legal speed limit in most states is 65 mph, which is broken by 27 mph at Millennium Force's top speed.

Cedar Point has 14 other roller coasters, the most of any one theme park, to add to the "screaming" good time. These coasters include Blue Streak, the Corkscrew, the Gemini, the Iron Dragon, the Magnum SL-200, Disaster Transport, the Mean Streak, the Raptor and the Mantis.

Built in 1964, the Blue Streak was one of Cedar Point's first roller coasters. With the traditional "clickety-clack" of the wheels, the Blue Streak offers roller coaster lovers a bit of nostalgia. The Blue Streak is a wooden coaster with various dips and curves. With a height of 78 feet, the Blue Streak was one of the first "thrill" rides to draw visitors from all over the state of Ohio and beyond.

Completed and released in 1976, the triple loop of the Corkscrew sends millions of Cedar Point visitors head over heels. One of the unique effects of the Corkscrew is the fact that two of the loops are done directly above the midway, where spectators and future riders are able to see the faces and hear the screams of the Corkscrew passengers. With all the flipping and turning, you may want to secure your pocket change.

With nearly three million riders each year, the Gemini has become one of the most popular coasters at Cedar Point. Released in 1978, the Gemini consists of red and blue trains that race to the finish on a wooden figure-eight track. You never know which train will win, so ride both. To date, Cedar Point states that the Gemini has given approximately 67.8 million rides.

Said to imitate the "sensation of flight," the Iron Dragon roller coaster offers banking, swaying and close calls. Seated in cars that are suspended below the track, the Iron Dragon swings from side to side over treetops and lagoons. Since its release in 1987, the Iron Dragon has thrilled its 24 million riders with the "dizzying pretzel-knot finale." Battling "the dragon" is one task you don't want to miss on your trip to Cedar Point.

Breaking a few records of its own, the Magnum XL-200 has been rated as the "Best Steel Roller Coaster in the World" by the American Coaster Enthusiasts. The first coaster to break the 200-foot-high barrier with speeds up to 72 mph, the Magnum XL-200 earned various awards, as well as praise from coaster lovers everywhere. It doesn't end there. The Magnum XL-200 also earned the titles of "Favorite Steel Roller Coaster in the World" by the National Amuseme

    More News and Pics:

Track for new ride begins travel up giant tower

"Cedar Point's 2003 attraction, which appears to be an Intamin launched "rocket coaster," is starting to resemble a real ride. Last week a crane that appears to be capable of raising parts well over 400 feet was erected and track was attached to the growing tower. The tower is now just a few feet shorter than Magnum. "

    See pics here

NAME RUMOR: The rumored name for this coaster is "Dragster".

    That's a cool sounding name. I like it. :)

Despite the fact that roller coasters practically give me heartattacks, I'd love to see this thing when it's done.

It looks a lot like Xcelerator at Knott's Berry Farm (which is owned by the same company as Cedar Point).

Xcelerator scared the crap out of me and it's only 200 feet tall.
