    -------------------

    Chapter One
    (Part I)

They had walked in silence for over two hours, the only sounds being the tap tap tap of their booted feet atop the dirtied rock way.

The tunnels seemed to be endless, curving left and right, leading them up steep hills and then down slippery, pebble-littered routes. The air was stale with a definite metallic smell. Darkness surrounded them, their way illuminated only by a small handheld light that threw horrendous looking shadows against the rough tunnel walls.

?How much further is it?? The young man asked. Barely out of his teens, the human male stood taller than the average man did. Light blue eyes hurriedly gazed through the dark, hoping to catch a tiny glimpse of an opening, an exit out of their humid and unnerving surroundings.

The older man young Tanith was following did not answer. Not even when beginning their journey had he acknowledged Tanith and had carried on as if he didn?t exist. Tanith had indulged in talking to no one in particular, just so he could get his mind off of the darkness and imminent death.

He had tripped and fallen far too many times already and his blood chilled when giving thought to his cold, lifeless body laying somewhere below the surface where no one in his or her right mind would ever venture to find him.

Tanith cleared his throat, ?Please, how much further must we walk??
He didn?t want to sound like a spoiled child but fear crept into his voice. He didn?t bother masking his anxiety. Obviously the older man could sense or feel Taniths emotions. Either way Tanith didn?t much care.

But still the stranger ignored him, ignorantly walking on as if he were alone.

Tanith slowly shook his head, long blond hair bouncing about his shoulders.

With one long stride he stood almost beside the stranger and was about to reach out to touch him when suddenly he was flung backwards. His large body struck the tunnel wall with a loud thud and he hung suspended against the cold rock face unable to move.

The older man turned around gracefully, holding up the glow rod to take in the shock etched onto Tanith?s face.

?Never touch me.? He said in a low voice but behind those simple words Tanith was sure he heard a clear threat. And knowing what this stranger could do, Tanith knew to take whatever the man said very seriously.

?Let me go!? Tanith shouted trying his best to wriggle free of the invisible grip the man held upon him. But the more Tanith moved, the tighter the grip became.

Until suddenly it was hard to breathe.

?You now have three choices.? The man said, coming closer and holding the glow rod higher. Tanith stared in horror at the mans eyes as they suddenly shifted in color, turning a dark and ironically beautiful gold.

The older man tilted his head to one side and Tanith was sure he saw a small smile surface on his features, ?You go back the way you came and leave me alone. You will not look back. Not once.?

His voice was nothing more than a very deadly whisper, ?Or you walk on. But you will keep to yourself and you will say nothing.?

Taniths head began to swim and he closed his eyes, gulping for air that could not find its way into his burning lungs.

To his surprise the man chuckled and moved back one step, ?Or you die.?

And suddenly he was free. Tanith lay on the ground panting for air, coughing and grabbing his throat with his hands. He stared up at the man who had almost killed him and he was astounded at the expression on the older man?s face.

    He was laughing.

?Your choice.? He said, turning on his heel and walking on as if nothing had happened.

Stunned, Tanith did not move. He lay on his side against the tunnel wall, his mind only slowly realizing how close he had come to losing his life. If he did not decide very quickly, he would be facing death yet again.

    The sound of the stran

:D You don't know half of it. :p Be glad! I have a strange head.

Glad you like it so far.

And I've honestly never written Dark Kyp before. This is a first and I'm actually anxious that I might mess it up. Because I have absolutely no clue whatsoever where this is going.

Thank you! Glad you like it so far.

    Thanks for reading everyone! [:D]

Very, very short post, I know. I'm still working on the rest, since I'm not yet satisfied with it. ^^

    ______________________________

Part of a journal entry of former Jedi Master Kyp Durron (found hidden within the Jedi Temple)

    War changes everything.

I see and feel death around me; it is palpable. We have lost friends and we have lost family.

Yes, I had a family once. My beautiful wife, to whom I owe my life. Without her, I would never have become the man I once was. Her love, her guidance, her belief in me kept me alive.

Our children were so much like her; my little boy and my little girl. I remember the sounds of their laughter; I remember the smiles as I held them tightly and sang them to sleep. I remember their joyful faces when I returned home from a long mission amongst my fellow Jedi.

    My family.

    My life.

But the war took them away from me. They died at the hands of the Yuuzhan Vong and I could not be there to help them, to save them.

    To avenge them.

Instead of trying to save my own family, I was trying to save the galaxy.

Did we succeed? The Jedi as a unity?

I truly do not know. For the galaxy is as it always has been: split into indecision, intrigues and treachery.

The Jedi are supposedly protectors of the peace. But there is no longer peace to protect. Sentient beings squabble amongst each other, they fight over nothing! Trivialities govern their lives, as if they have forgotten the war all together.

The galaxy around us has changed. The beings within it have not.

As a Jedi, am I to protect these beings? Am I to fight for these beings? To put my life on the line when, in the end, nothing will ever change?

I cannot do this any longer. And I will not.

    I draw the line here.

I will no longer be part of an organization bound to be exploited by politicians as they see fit.

Too much has been lost already.

    My dearest Dajanna.

    Forgive me.
