Is Changeling a word that has been mentioned anywhere else in the EU? Because it sure came out of nowhere in AotC. Does this merely mean that she can change constantly from whatever species she wants to another, or is the changeling a more powerful being than that? I remember someone saying in a critical review that they couldn't believe Zam Wesell was a changeling. Is there something special about Changelings that they wouldn't become bounty hunters?

You could be thinking of Odo he's a changling.

In Gamer #10 it gives the Clawdites traits as being non-aggressive.

Personally I think Zam could change how she looked to a human or other race but not turn into other weird things like Odo or the T-1000.

    So... many... questions...Brain...frying...

Yes, she can change shape. But her abilities are limited, and can't be held for too long as one species. See Gamer # 10 for more info on Clawdites.

"Changeling" is a fairly generic Sci-Fi term for "shape-shifter". Lucas wasn't the first to use it, but I don't think it cropped up in past EU books in any specific way.

Well, the Gamer issue lists other "changelings", such as Shi'ido, etc.

Also, what's odd is, the Gamer issue says "they can only change the texture/shape of their skin" or something to that effect, but they can NOT change their body size/shape, so they can LOOK like other people/creatures.... but the "Zam Wesell" comic GN shows her physically CHANGE her body shape/size -- she turns into a Dug at one point, and she changes her arm to be longer so that she can grab a falling idol, at the very end. So... which is it? Can they change their body size/shape or not?

Syntax, I think that was fixed in one of the AOTC guides. Medical alterations can be made so that Clawdites can assume more advanced shapes, I think. What other changelings were listed in Gamer?

Yeah, I guess that fix will work TC. I was confused by it as well though, reading the Zam Wessel comic before the Gamer article.

    TC:

They mention Clawdites, Shi'ido (which I've heard of) and Polydroxol (which I have not).

There's also various nonsentient creatures that live on Zolan (Clawdite homeworld) that have shapechanging abilities, according to the Gamer article.

    From the CUSWE:

    Polydroxol
this race of shape-shifting creatures resembles a 200 kilogram mass of mercury, in its liquid state. They are capable of changing into amost any shape, but do not have the ability to mimic colors. They were native to the toxic world of Sevetta, where they lived in volcanic pools of molten metal. They had a complex circulatory system which passed electrglobins throughout their bodies, and lived without oxygen. On their homeworld, Polydroxol always travel in pairs. (TSK, SWJ12)

Thanks. So, it doesn't look like there are that many types of changelings in the GFFA.

...or at least none that are listed or openly mentioned.

But, the Gamer article DOES say that the Clawdite homeworld is rife with "changelings" of various sorts, with different capabilities.

I think that Adventure Journal # 13 has an entire article on the shape-shifters of the GFFA.
