    Title: Character Sketches
    Author: Star-Foozle
    Genre: Drabbles
    Characters: OCs, with cameos by assorted canon characters.
    Timeframe: Anywhere from a decade before TPM up to the ROTS era.
    Author's Notes: After reading several wonderful drabblesets here on the Boards, I was inspired to try my own hand at them. As in the Ultimate Drabble Challenge, these will come in sets of five, each with a different theme. A big thanks goes to the lovely DancesWithBlasters for lending me Sarama Baka and company, and for having faith in this little project of mine. Hope you enjoy! :D

    1. Portraits

    Luce

    A grand-Master.

    You?re a grand-Master, now.

    With this new title comes a strange feeling. It means your Padawan-turned-Knight now has a child of his own to raise and teach, just as you raised and taught him. Joy swells within your chest, but with it comes a pang of sadness.

    They grow so quickly?.

    You gaze down at the little boy standing behind the new Master. He smiles, shyly, and for a moment you see Madeo there instead, as he was so many years ago.

    But it?s only for a moment. Then you smile back.

    ?Pleasure to meet you, Padawan Nikani.?

    * * *

    Madeo

    Sunlight is streaming in through the window, pooling on the table and illuminating the steam rolling off your cup of caf. It catches in the hair of your apprentice, as well, surrounding his head in a halo of gold.

    The angle of the light slanting through the blinds is such that no matter which way you turn, it gets into your eyes. You don?t mind. After a month-long stay on a world where the sun never rose above the horizon for more than two hours a day, you welcome the invasion of brilliance.

    You smile.

    There?s no place like home.

    * * *

    Coda

    You?re not a Padawan any longer, but you still rely on your Master?s wisdom. You keep his words tucked away, close to your heart, to pull them back out when needed. It?s his mantra for life, and perhaps yours, too.

    "There is no such thing as a coincidence, my friend. Everything happens for a reason, but sometimes it occurs in such subtle ways that even those in tune with things like this aren't able to see the bigger picture for a while. The Force works in mysterious ways, but everything works out in the end. Remember that."

    And you do.

    * * *

    Seren

    You?re a study in simplicity ? barefoot and blue-furred, with shining amber eyes. You?re not particularly cunning, and your saber skills could use a little work. But you?re loyal, and kind, and that?s what counts. You cannot understand cruelty and hatred, and you?re quicker to forgive than most. You turn to the Force like a flower towards the sun. Somehow, through war and pain and death, you?ve held on to innocence. It?s a precious thing, a tiny, clean flame that illuminates your path and life. And even in the chaos, you keep faith that at the end, there will be light.

    * * *

    Sarama

    It?s these in-between times when you feel the most like yourself. Doing the dishes or the laundry, folding clothes, organizing your quarters ? these menial tasks let you take a step back from your roles and expectations. Instead of being an apprentice, or a hero, or one of the Saviors of the Galaxy, you?re just Sara for a little while.

    It?s nice, having the weight of those titles lifted from your shoulders momentarily. You treat these pauses like a swimmer would treat breaths of air ? vital, but necessarily short. You enjoy them while you can, and then you dive back in.

    You already know that I love these, Starrie, but it's worth repeating! Oh, I love them sooooo much! Luce's was especially touching, and I loved Seren's. She's a truly wonderful person. I never told you about this, but after we had the convo about whether Sara and Seren would get along I sort of made Coli to be like Seren, because a personality like that would be a wonderful influence on Sara, and her other friends, too. Add me to the PM list! [face_love]

    [face_worried] I'm feeling horribly guilty about upping my own post, here, but surely there's more than one person kind enough to leave a review out there?

    *looks hopeful*

    ...The next entry will be coming this weekend.

    Don't feel guilty! Feel angry because I'm a bad master and forgot to review. :oops:

    Either way - I'm very proud of you, dear! This is excellent! Like I told you before, anyone who can pull off drabbles is simply amazing and these are superb! I really like the topic you chose and the way you conveyed the message so effectively. And of course I was so happy to see Coda in there. [face_love] I really like these OCs and cant wait to see more of them! :D

    These are excellent! =D=

    Master: Don't feel bad. DRL is a hassle sometimes, I understand. And besides, anger is a path to the Dark Side.:p

    Thank you so much for your kind review! I appreciate the feedback, and I'm glad you like them. *hugs*

    ...Next post coming later tonight.

    Here we go. :)

    This post's a little odd. I was digging through my old MS Word files the other day, and stumbled across something I thought I'd never touch again -- my very first fanfic, Timewarp. The story introduced my favorite OC pair, Madeo and Coda, but besides that was very...strange.

    The story was about the aforementioned pair testing out a new hyperdrive system and accidentally getting warped to the future, after Order 66 had occurred. So they have to go undercover and compete in this rodeo/dogfight thing with nasty beasts called kerbeis in order to win enough money to buy fuel to get back home.

    This was written back in the days when I knew very little SW terminology or how things worked in the GFFA, so it's full of errors, and shall never be posted. But I decided to patch a few choice bits together and put it up here, to honor my first attempt. :D

    2. Timewarp

    ?Tell me again, how did we get talked into this??

    Support of a friend has led to being a test dummy. That would be alright -- if Baylor?s inventions didn?t have a tendency to explode.

    It?s happened before. The engineer must have scorch marks on every article of clothing he owns. But a droid is one thing, a spaceship another entirely.

    ?I?d like to avoid blowing up, Coda, if that?s at all possible.?

    ?Don?t worry, Master ? the odds of that happening aren?t very high. Baylor told me it?s just seventeen percent.?

    His Padawan?s attempt at reassurance just makes matters worse.

    * * *

    Halias wasn?t as Madeo had remembered it.

    The planet was falling to bits, that much was certain. Was there a war going on? If so, the Council didn?t know about it. They?d have sent negotiators already, to try to stop the world from coming to blows.

    Obviously this destruction was a new development.

    The Jedi Master followed his apprentice down the gangway and onto the abandoned launch pad. Where was the ground crew?

    A wave of apprehension rolled over him, directed by his Padawan. He felt Coda stiffen beside him, and then he knew the reason why.

    Someone was coming.

    * * *

    A flimsiplast flyer tumbled across the sidewalk. Mala muttered under her breath and went to retrieve it.

    Something wasn?t right.

    Look up, the Force said.

    A speeder?s engines were aflame, and the abandoned craft was hurtling towards their oblivious friend. Madeo sprinted across the street and tackled Mala to the ground, the machine missing their heads by centimeters.

    Quite a close call.

    The younger man helped the two back on their feet, then reached down to retrieve the offending flyer, glancing at it briefly.

    Mala was shocked. Madeo?s wrist was sprained. But Coda had found the answer to their problem.

    * * *

    It was all over.

    The gigantic white kerbei towered over Coda, dual heads baring equally vicious rows of teeth. Two sets of acid-green eyes showed no mercy.

    There was no electrostaff to divert the animal this time. His Force energy was long used-up by trying to distract the beast. It hadn?t worked.

    And yet?Coda wasn?t afraid. A sense of peace filled him. He?d won, nonetheless, and his Master would be able to go home. It had all worked out in the end. Perhaps not for him, but for his friends, yes.

    He looked his death in the face and smiled.

    * * *

    Landing again is a bit like déjà vu. Several things have changed, however. The airstrip is newer-looking, of course, and still open to the public. People are waiting there. Also, there is a large, smoking crater in the duracrete.

    Deo enquires as to what happened.

    A burst gas line or a bomb was the answer. Whatever it was, an on-time arrival would have caused the Jedi to be a blackened smear on the pavement right now.

    The two exchange meaningful glances, and then break into grins full of secret humor.

    Perhaps there was a reason for that excursion after all.

    Interesting . . . . I have to admit I don't quite understand what happened, but it was quite cool! :D

    Thanks, buddy. And yeah, I'll admit it, this post was a little disjointed, wasn't it? I basically took snippets of my old fic, converted them into drabble form, and threw them together on here. The original will never be posted, as it's full of gaping plot and factual holes, but this is just my little homage to the first fic I ever wrote. :)

    My first fic was a Harry Potter one, and it's never going to see the light of day, either. I don't even want to talk about it.

    Believe it or not, yes. I've been stuck for a bit, but I'm starting to get my creative gears unjammed. The next set....is coming. I don't have a timeframe yet, but it's in the works.
