Hey guys.. I read that big post about lightsabers..but I was wondering if anyone knows where I can buy a pretty good looking lightsaber for pretty cheat.. around $40 or under if possible.. I know I probably will have to resort to building one.
I would rather just use these store boughten toy ones, then spned $200 or more on one.. If someone can please show me a site with cheaps ones then plz do..!!!!

thanks guys, and keep up the good work..

you may want to post one this in the Costumes and Props forum...I don't know if your gonna find a good saber for under $40 unless you build one.

Ebay. Or build your own from plumbing pipes and hardware supplies(actually pretty easy--and exactly what I do). The building stuff might sound a bit on the 'work' end, but really, you can make a really cool looking saber from some very cheap(but nice looking and sturdy)materials.

    Good luck. :)

Toys-r-us, $8 gets you a choice of red/green or blue.... made out of plastic telescoping blade that fully retracts, handle looks pretty (going to regret saying this) "realistic"......The kids still have them in one peice so fairly sturdy

rlsasabers.com $50-100 sabers. If you're lucky and wait you can get one of the more expensive ones on sale. I know it is about 10 bucks more than you want but they are quality aluminum hilts. I know, I've bought 3 and own 1.

You could buy the toy sabers for about $6 and then customize them to make them look how you want.

But those look terrible. They're way too thick, hurt your hands after any appreciable amount of time, and are generally too big and hard to take apart. You're better off just making your own. C'mon, it only takes ten minutes or so for a stunt saber.

    building Hardware Sabers

That link has several links to all sorts of costuming and props tutorials. Mine is towards the top, but there are several more below. This is probably the best way to get custom sabers without spending tons of money.

The only tough part is making a saber that is both functional and really phat looking all at once.

Both my hardware sabers look really cool, and they can be used a bit (like Oobi characters fighting with them, for instance). But, I wouldn't go for an all out battle with them. I'm sure parts would go flying.

Keep it simple. Make one saber for close ups and to wear on your belt, but use much more simple sabers for the actual fighting.

I went with rlsasabers.com and they are very strong and well made. Dont do what I did and spend 25 bucks on the colored blades. You can go down to a local hardware shop and get a blade for a cheaper price.

Here's what you can do to make 2 durable lightsabers for 10 bucks.

Step 1: Go to hardware, buy 2 3/4 inch wooden dowels.

Step 2: Buy roll of electric tape.

Step 3: Buy a can of silver spray paint.

    Step 4:

    THE BUILDING PROCESS:

Step 1: Take dowel in hand.

Step 2: Wrap the handle area with electric tape. Want a longer handle? Make it. Want balls on the end so your hand doesnt slip? Make em.

Step 3: Spray the handles with silver spray paint, dont worry about getting any on the non-taped section.

Step 4: Add any extra touches, and TADA! Complete.

This makes a durable lightsaber that you wont have to be worried about breaking. This WILL break before your head does, therefore, saving you a trip to the hospital.

thanks for that, it sounds pretty good, but I woudl rather get a saber that actually look real, like the ones at RLSA sabers. I'm just deciding on what to do on the blades.

Guys I made mine for $6.00 at home depot. Just ask for the Plastic chrome lavatory pipe. It came with everything you see except for the black handle and the little bulb w/gromet which I found in my house. clickie

    PS
1"1/2 PVC pipes fit perfectly just drill a hole in the PVC pipe so it meets with the hole on the Saber(where the bulb is on mine) then stick something in there that's strong and sturdy.

I had my brother make me one. He machined Aluminum for it. They turned out really cool. He just used scrap he had. I think he said that they had like 50 steps to make though. He thought about making more. He just freesyled them. everyone different. I was telling his to make some more. I agree. I would pay $50 to $ 100 for something really cool.
Here is the movie i made for my brother when he made some for me and shipped them up.
