The Chiss in their modern form, as Zahn writes them for canon and Legends compatible, we do know well by now. They even actively referenced their past from the TOR MMO. But between that one and their modern incarnation lie not only millennia but also a huge cultural disconnect. So lets snoop up some hidden, hinted or hereby revealed secret history of the Chiss.

    https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Chiss/Legends#History

A lost human colony predating the Republic and a tropical paradise turning slowly towards an ice age that would alter their genetics to the point of changing their looks to how we know them. Earliest Chiss history is vague. Their closeness to Ixigul/Exegol, Ilum and other ancient pre-Republican worlds intriguing. By the time of the Old Sith Wars, the Sith were in contact with the Ascendancy and resided nearby on Exegol. The Jedi using their secret route to Ilum did not meet them but bypassed them. And yet the ancient history of Ilum and Ixigul that may be tied to the "World between Worlds" and Ach-to may also involve the worlds later inhabited by the Chiss with more secrets buried on them pertaining to the ancient pre-Unknown Regions splitoff history of that region and its first Forceusers exploits. Maybe the nicknamed "Skywalker" Prime Jedi was some inspiration for the later program of the Chiss navigator children, maybe they developed the name on their own and the same nicknames were common for Forceusers and their abilities and tricks in ancient times.
Their Ascendancy, was it named for the process of ascension the Sith seek as goal to godhood? For the Skywalker or Prime Jedi's reaching a luminous higher plane of existence? Was it just a name chosen to signify their rise amidst the Chaos? Their superiority and arrogant believe in likewise befitting similiar tendencies in Sith and High Human Culture?

By the time of TOR, the Chiss were a Sith vassal state with governing autonomy and active alliance and sharing ressources. With the defeat and (near-)extinction of the Sith after TOR, the Chiss quickly disconnected from the galaxy at large and probably fared better than the Red Sith whose extinction may have been their fate too, had they not retreated to the Unknown Regions and made it impossible for any Jedi or Republic to follow them into the Chaos. Some Sith might have done likewise keeping to Exegol post TOR.

Howevefarer the alliance came about, probably with a Chiss defeat and saving face and autonomy by agreeing to Sith terms, who accepted knowing the cost of fully taking over the Chiss would be too high currently, the lasting effects of this joined venture would be felt for millennia. Like Mandalore, the Chiss as Sith vassals did not well for long.

How much did the Chiss know of the GFFA/Lesser Space and why did it get memorized as lesser compared to the Chaos of the Unknown Regions? Were the horrors preferable to the neverending war between Jedi and Sith?

How much technology was shared and why did the Chiss not keep Navcomputers, Hyperdrives, Shields and weaponry of that age but instead developed their own paralell technological evolution? Or why not send Chiss Agents into the galaxy still to retrieve such? Was fear of the Republic/Jedi finding them and doing to them what they did to the Sith that great that they did not dare to risk it and even forbade or banned Lesser Space knowledge and tech, purging themselves of the sins of their past so to speak?

Modern Chiss laws and non-agression rules are about 1000 years old only, so before that, during the NSW, they were quite different still and even Lord Kaan encountered them and had some of them transported to Thule.

Thus, did the Sith under Kaan try to recreate the old alliance but failed and merely took some Chiss or faction/family offworld to Thule?

Chiss Skywalkers, Forcesensitive children to navigate hyperspace as Force Astrogators, that canon introduced are an interesting addition that in light of Legends lore needs further exploration. Given Chiss Darksiders did and do exist (Sev'rance Tann as well as TOR era ones), was the limiting of Forceuse to children deliberate or something natural? Given the limitation of loosing the Force with aging can be worked around by training it is not a fixed limit. And how much Force lore did the Chiss keep from their TOR times where they had as Intelligence branch of the Sith Empire access to everything!

Legends claimed Chiss have no Force traditions, oblivious to the highly secret (not yet introduced) Skywalker program. Legends also attested that Chiss kill, exile or medically treat any adult Forceusers to suppress the Force, depending on status and rank of said Chiss.
Now that is interesting, is that (OneCanon) proof that the Chiss Ascendancy actively prevents their Skywalker children to keep Forcepowers into adulthood for adults and teenagers are more dangerous than kids they can control and (ab)use as Navigators? Hence a drug program to have them loose the powers secretly applied?

Many secrets are locked away in the ice vaults beneath Csilla still after all!

Lets see what we can unearth in the next posts!
