I finally got the dates for the CHKD radiothon.

We will be participating in the "Point Change Bandit" program. Last year due to lack of lead time, we were only able to raise $300. We are hoping with more than a week to put it together this year, that we can top that.

I am planning to show up at the hospital with a group of people and money on Saturday December 12. This will be one week after the Richmond Christmas Parade, but will ba a little more "participant friendly" because:

1 We meet at 10 AM in the parking garage to suit up.
2 It will be indoors, so it should be warmer.
3 We go inside once everyone is suited up.

Star Wars costume characters are requested, but absolutely not required for participation. As a matter of fact, I request that a few people show up in regular clothes, so we can cover all 3 types of fans.

I have extended invites to Freedom Base, Garrison Tyranus, and the Carolina Garrison. I will also be inviting the local Feddies and Klingons to join us (and maybe a few of our friends from businesses that are supporting our efforts in this cause).

Right now the event involves showing up and donating money, but I am trying to get costumed visits with some kids set up. I'll keep everyone posted, and in early November try to get a handle on who all is coming from all of the groups.

This important topic seems to have gotten pushed down on the forums, so to remind folks that it's coming down the pike, here is the website to give peeps a bit more information as to what this is all about.

    UPDATE!!!!!!

The hospital is going to try to get as many kids down to meet the costumed characters as possible.
There is an outside chance that we will be invited to go to the patient floors, but due to the fluidity of the H1N1 situation, they are not sure about that happening.

After some difficulties getting the helmet together, we have finally placed the collection bucket in the Battlefield Boulevard Hooters.
Now to get the pictures posted (stay tuned).

Thanks for the update! I was going to give you a whole lotta change this past Sat., but as it happens, I guess I'll have to go to my local Farm Fresh or bank and get it cashed in.

I'll give ya $$ the day of the event!!

Since we didn't couldn't do Zoo Boo this year, we'll have to make this our prime event this season. Thanks again Rick!:)

The absolute latest is that we will NOT be visiting the kids in their rooms.
The hospital is on a health lockdown, and people going from room to room is not going to be allowed.
Most of the kids are in medical isolation, but they will bring who they can to the lobby to meet us.
I am going to try to let them know that we will be happy to come back on another visit when it is safe to do so.

Also, they would prefer the donations to be in check or money order form. Bills might be ok, but they prefer not to have cash around for security reasons. They request that we definitely do not bring in the loose change.

Also, I would like to do this again next year, so please plan on collecting change as soon as possible. I'll attempt to establish a relationship with the Hospital so that maybe I can get information sooner (and get us involved in other events).

Rick, I hurt my back Tuesday evening. If it doesn't feel better by Sat., probably won't be able to attend.

So put me down as a maybe for now.

Will be there - Rick C, if you check the boards before you leave, can you PM your cell phone number to me? I'm not confident in my ability to find peeps in the parking maze of the hospital complexes, so might need some help navigating :)

    QUAPLA!
    (Klingon word for SUCCESS)

We made the hospital on time (no stragglers). We had a good turnout even with the klingons remaining cloaked and conducting a mission elsewhere. Their absence was noticed however.

In attendance were Rick, Nels, Wendy, Noel, Tim, Jared, Jon, Connley, Mark, and Dillon.

There were a few kids in the lobby, and several adults who wanted pictures with us. We also did an extended photo session thanks to Conley on the "grassy knoll" in front of the hospital. and of course was the obligatory trip to Hooters (there were no dissenters, and we wanted to say thank you for their help in this charity endeavor). All in all, I will call this a succesful troop and will try to repeat it next year with a few of my mistakes corrected.

Conly donated separately from us in the name of his business, so our total is actually a little higher than our official amount.

Officially, we donated $395.00 to the hospital.

Thank you everyone who came out. And thank you for those that couldn't make it, but offered support to help make this happen.

HRR, RL, GT, and DSM ROCKS!
