Christian singer Stacie Orrico slams Spears, Aguilera

Orrico, the fresh-faced pop singer from Nashville, Tenn., told reporters before her performance at the awards that it worries her to see girls emulating Spears and Aguilera.

"The reason that I don't dress trashy is that I'm trying to set an example for little girls," Orrico said. "From the time they're seven or eight years old, (girls) are being taught that the only thing that makes them special and beautiful is their sexuality, and I think that's wrong."

Orrico, wearing a loose, long-sleeved white shirt and jeans, said she doesn't approve of the revealing clothes sported by Spears and Aguilera.

"I don't think that's sexy, I think it's degrading," the bubbly 17-year-old said. "I think that (being) a truly sexy woman comes from being confident and being classy, respectable and mature."

The singer also weighed in on Janet Jackson (news)'s breast-baring incident at the Super Bowl, calling the stunt "unnecessary."

"I definitely don't think that she's a good example." Orrico said.


Orrico was nominated for Best Breakthrough Artist. "Stacie Orrico" made No. 5 on Billboard's Top Contemporary Christian Albums list this month.

I've liked Stacie since she released her first album, Geniune. Her second one (named after her) was great, but I don't consider her Christian Contemporary anymore. Her best song (which got on Billboard's main thing) was definitely not Christian. It rocked though!!

It honestly disturbs me to see little girls walking around wearing the same kind of clothes that girls my age wear. Hanging off the shoulder, exposing things that shouldn't be exposed by any girl, let alone a 12 year old. I agree with Stacie on this one. And yes, she's still considered Christian Contemporary, I heard her on the local station Friday. But seriously, who is turned on by women that leave nothing to the imagination wherever they go?

 

lemme guess, her first album was more religious than her latest? she has become aware then that the christian music industry... and, frankly, christian music in general sucks no matter how good a singer you are, and that one must pander to the "world" for you to make lots of cash. which, funnily enough, is why spears and christina dress the way they do. which makes them lame also, no doubt, but at least they, like, don't wear much and get all sweaty and stuff. plus they have normal noses.
