Count Dooku and Saruman have a very similar character.

I?m not saying they?re the same person or that Lucas copied Tolkien, because Starwars and Lord of the Rings are different stories.

It's probably just coincidence or overanalysis.

They were both portrayed by Christopher Lee

They were both bad guys. (Sith and Wizard)

They were second in command over Sidious and Sauron

They both have a scene in which they contact their leader - (Eye of Sauron, Dooku meeting Sidious)

They both were once good and then turned evil

They both created an army (Droids and Orcs)

They tried to sway a good character to their side and failed (Obi-wan and Gandalf)

They lost a battle (Battle of Geonosis and Helm's deep) because reinforcements came twice to help the good guys

    (First Jedi then Clones)
(First Elves then more Rohan Riders)

They both win a duel (Dooku's fight with Anakin and Obi-wan, Saruman's fight against Gandalf) in which levitation powers are involved.

They both feature mostly in the second Episode of the whole stories.

Someone brought this up in the Attack of thE Clones forum, so this wasn't originally noticed by me.

However, I found some strikingly similar dialogue:

Against the power of Mordor, there can be no victory. We must join with him, Gandalf. We must join with Sauron. It would be wise, my friend.

Once they sense the Dark Lord?s presence and realize their error, it will be too late. You must join me, Obi-Wan?and together we will destroy the Sith!

For that is why you have come, is it not, my old friend?

A brave but,? foolish approach, my old Jedi friend.

Very soon he will have summoned an army great enough to launch an assault upon Middle earth.

And when their battle droids are combined with yours, we shall have an army greater than any in the galaxy.

You did not seriously think a Hobbit could contend with the will of Sauron? There are none who can.

Master Kenobi, you disappoint me. Yoda holds you in such high esteem. Surely you can do better?

Actually, doesn't Christopher Lee have a history of playing the villains in Sci-Fi/Horror/Fantasy movies?

Christopher Lee playing the villain is hardly something kept just to LOTR and SW. :p

Heh, I've only seen him in LOTR, AOTC, and Man with the Golden Gun, but he was the bad guy in all of them.
