Founded by Admiral Krennel after he murdered Sate Pestage and supporters. Usurped control and declared the hemony independant of the empire after Director Isard took control. The Hegemony had several manufacturing operations supplying monotonous items to the galaxy but generated revenue for the upkeep of Krennels forces. Of no apparent strategic value, made a target by the NR to intimidate the other warlords. Krennel himself was targeted for the murder of Sate Pestage. For more detailed info see XW:Isards Revenge
Founded by Admiral Krennel after he murdered Sate Pestage and supporters. Usurped control and declared the hemony independant of the empire after Director Isard took control. Strange. Which was it, did he found the Ciutric Hegemony or did he usurp control of it? What Isard's Revenge has to say about Krennel coming to power in the Ciutric Hegemony and the reasons for going after him are as follows. Isard's Revenge, chapter 2, pages 16 and 17, a discussion between Wedge and Admiral Ackbar: "Admiral Delak Krennel." Wedge felt the flesh on his arms pucker. "He ordered TIE fighter attacks on civilians on Axxila and opposed our rescue of Sate Pestage from Ciutric." "Yes. He murdered Sate Pestage and took over his holdings--the Ciutric Hegemony. It made him the leader of a dozen worlds and gave him a fair amount of material resources. He didn't join Thrawn per se, but seems to have given him monetary support. He rules from Ciutric and has a fleet of a dozen or so capital ships, including his Reckoning." Wedge smiled. "Got it all repaired, did he?" "So it seems." "He's been rather quiet--not at all like Teradoc. How can you justify going after him...?" Wedge frowned for a moment, then barked a little laugh. "We're going to bring him to justice for Pestage's murder?" "That, and the murder of Pestage's family. When Krennel took over, he killedf every one of them he could find. Over a hundred people perished in that purge alone, and there have been other purges to keep him in power. His murder sprees give us all the excuse we need to target him." "And the fact that he took the holdings of an Imperial officer and converted them to himself means that by going after him, we're suggesting to anyone else who might be adventurous out there that what once belonged to the Empire is ours. Interfere with us and you'll lose everything." Ackbar turned his head and stared at Wedge with one big amber eye. "Political analysis, Wedge? Had I known you'd taken to being a General so easily, I'd have demanded the promotion sooner." Right there we know that Krennel did not found the Ciutric Hegmony, he usurped or stole it, depending on which word you'd prefer to use. Usurp meaning to take or assume without right. Steal meaning simply to take without right. Essentially, in this case, the two would be the same thing. We also learn that the reasons for going after Krennel are not just his killing Sate Pestage. Sate Pestage's death is just the tip of the iceberg, the deaths of his family and so many others also give reason to go after him. And then there is the political reason as well. As for the Ciutric Hegemony,we learn this from the NEGtC, Sate Pestage entry, page 132: During Palpatine's tenure as Chancellor, Pestage controlled the executive agenda. When Palpatine became Emperor, Pestage was named Grand Vizier. He handled everything from managing Palpatine's calendar to tasting his food for poisons. In return, the Emperor gave Pestage stewardship of a cluster of wealthy worlds known as the Ciutric Hegemony. That right there suggests that the Hegemony may have exsisted during the Old Republic. It certainly exsisted during the Palpatine's reign as Emperor. It also tells us that the worlds of the Hegemony are wealthy ones. We learn upon further reading in the entry that the Hegemony is made up of 25 worlds. From Isard's Revenge, the NEGtC, and Rogue Squadron: Mandatory Retirement we know the name of one of the planet's is Ciutric. Because of the fact that Ciutric lends it's name to the name of the Hegemony, it's fairly ovious to assume that Ciutric must therefore be the capital of the Hegemony. What little we know about the Ciutric Hegmony seems to come mostly from sources such as these.
Interesting. I'm sure in Mandatory Retirement it mentions that Pestage inherited the worlds from his family, rather than being given them by Palpatine. Could be getting confused though ...
Having just looked through all four issues of Mandatory Retirement, I find no where in it where it says Pestage inherited the Hegemony. It could appear in the Mandatory Retirement TPB, or mabye in Masquerade.
Ok, new question: Do you think that the New Republic was justified in going after Prince-Admiral Krennel instead of dealing with more aggressive warlords like High Admiral Teradoc and Supreme Warlord Harsk?
Krennel was viscious and did conduct attacks on a his own civilian population. The murder of Pestage may have been justification but he was someone who could have been a far more dangerous threat in the long run. Given time to gather resources and expnad his territory into the other warlords, he would have been a far more dangerous threat on par with Zsinj. Despite the example of Krennel set in XW:IR and TPB:MR, he was quite a ruthless and competant commander. He probably could have taken the rest of the warlords, absorbed their territory and become far more dangerous if the NR hadn't dealt with him there and then. He certainly was the most competant of them at the time. Kill the wasp before it builds a nest.
That last comment of Adm_Vos_Parck's is very suited to the Hegemony, as the shipyards above Ciutric were being upgraded and could possibly have been able to produce ISD's within a few years of Krennel's fall. And looking at the way the other warlords argued, Krennel probably would've been able to absorb their territory, given time. Horn out
That's why i say Krennel was the most dangerous. He was probably the most competant of the lot. Certainly by comparison to Harsk and Terradoc.
Delak? I don't think so . . . Gentlemen, gentlemen, how could you see Krennie as anything but self sycophantically obsessed? He surrounds himself with aides and personnel who must constantly praise him or be the recipient of his mechanical handshake. Which, if applied to tracheas, becomes your last gasp of life. Sure, he's pure anti-alien and thinks he could stand up to Thrawn in a one-on-one standoff, but so do all with Imperial indoctrination. He's egotistcal, which his Prince-addition to the title proves. But I still love my favourite fat businessman, Zsinj. What a jolly man he was.
