What do you think is going to become of this guy? AFAIK he doesn't show up at all in the OT. And the small universe syndrome of SW tends towards "if a major character from the prequel era didn't show up, they're dead".

So... do you think he's going to buy it before this is over?

With a character as as small and insignificant as Sato, he doesn't need to be killed off. He could've been on one of the Rebel ships in episode 6 or something.

Huh, guess we didn't already have a thread for this guy. Well, since everyone and their grandma has a thread, I'd say he's due for one. :p

Hmm...what to say about Sato? Umm...

Maybe he should be a former Separatist?

It's totally reasonable for Sato to survive, he can just be a minor commander in the larger rebellion. He's the leader of just a small fragment of what will become the Alliance. We really get a limited view of the Rebellion in the movies, and given its ever-expanding ranks in books and such, I can (and hope to) see Sato fighting throughout the war.

Separatist or no, he appears to have started out as a rather by-the-books military leader. Well-intentioned, but uncreative. It'd be fun to shine a bit of light on how his strategies are changing to fit the Rebel struggle vs. a more traditional war like the Clone Wars. I think we have a good opportunity for Phoenix-centered stories in Season 3 when we (likely) peel our Force Users away for an extended period of time.

He's like the poor man's version of Captain Sulu.

A commander of a minor taskforce...no biggie. He can be around for a while. Maybe one of the Correllian Corvettes at Endor was his.

    So based on today's episode
I wouldn't be surprised if we eventually got a major confrontation between Sato and Thrawn this season.

Thrawn must see Sato as a worthy challenge. Sato has already beat Konstantine multiple times, and he also technically beat Titus when he was an admiral.

We learned that his brother was killed and his nephew, who is also part of Iron squadron joined Phoenix squadron at the end of the episode. Wonder if Thrawn is the one responsible for his brother's death.

Thrawn studied the Art of War by Sun'zu Sato, it was fully illustrated.

Apparently the YT 2400 freighter is named Sato's hammer and once belonged to Sato himself

See, how simple! Why is this kind of sensible thinking absent when people discuss Kanan, Ezra or Hera? When it's the main characters of something, they suddenly need have a more prominent role in the Rebellion, they need to meet everyone from TCW and OT, or they have to be in all key events that helped to build the Rebellion. But with Sato - meh, he's just a commander of a rebel task force, he has his own voyage.

I wonder if Sato and Phoenix squadron will be reference considering we see the two hammerhead corvettes in Rogue One trailers and tv spots.

I've said it several times....the OT covers a very small window of time in a very limited area of The Galaxy....The Ghost crew was elsewhere doing other things.

The only thing I can hand the newest episode is that it at least gave Sato something

It was the perfect opportunity to actually give Sato some development, and they threw it away. He was so integral to the premise of the episode, yet he did very little and didn't really strike me as being that emotionally involved. Good set up, disappointing follow-though.

I'd like to learn more about Sato's bigger plans for how he will use Phoenix Squadron most effectively, how he interacts with the other cells, etc. Thrawn's plan may be a secret, as this show doesn't go villain-centric, but Sato's shouldn't be. It also might be interesting to get a difference of opinion between Sato and Hera about missions. I understand that Sato respects and needs Hera, but find it hard to believe he's "just cool with" the personal missions (Ryloth? Dathomir?) the Ghost crew undertake.

Konstantine commands fleet that protects Lothal that seems to be one of the most insignificant Outer Rim world there is (now maybe more important because rebels attracted empire's attention)- he really is not that big and important guy in the Empire:p

It seems that Sato could be the one that doesn't survive this season, maybe together with Cham Syndulla. Personally though Sato could become more interesting if he doesn't die.

Especially since he seems to maybe have a history with Thrawn, but I do agree that we need some cutting in the cast especially since thrawn is around.
