Let me preface this by saying that I'm almost afraid to post on here anymore. It seems I can't say anything without hurting someone's feelings. SO: Although I'm curious about this topic, let me PLEASE say I'm not trying to be stupid, cloddish, or an idiot, and if I hurt anyone's feelings by posting it, let me apologize in advance because that's not what I'm trying to do at ALL.

That said, here in the past few days, Kathleen Kennedy has said: “Operating within these giant franchises now, with social media and the level of expectation — it’s terrifying...I think a lot of the women who step into ‘Star Wars’ struggle with this a bit more. Because of the fan base being so male dominated, they sometimes get attacked in ways that can be quite personal.”

It does seem that there is a lot of bashing from within the fandom. But is it really because there's another female or somebody of another race in a key role, or is it something else? Have you ever complained about a SW project because another lead character was female or a person of color, or are you really trying to say something different to The Powers That Be?

I just don't get it ...

Kathleen Kennedy may be called a lot of mean names, but nobody has ever accused her of sexually assaulting their childhoods. Or Indiana Jones.

The manosphere has a lot to answer for. With their false gods, Tate, Peterson, Richard Simmons.

I have to admit, I haven't stumbled across those channels. It's not something I go looking for.

It's hard to believe people are like that. How can you be a SW fan and still think like that?

However ... my brother is a Trumper and also a ST fan. How? I don't know ...

 

Reactionary videos get lots of clicks on YouTube and other platforms. Some people use popular franchises (not just Star Wars) to get some of those easy clicks. It's a way for them to make a few bucks off YouTube and potentially avoid having to get a mid to low paying job that they probably wouldn't like.

 

I see a bunch of people making videos about SW on there (some of which are very good for reference if you write fan fic), but I just haven't run across anything like this.

I guess I'm glad. They sound awful ...

 

Yeah don't click on them if you haven't already. Just find a couple Star Wars YouTubers you enjoy and watch their videos. All the reactionary YouTubers will do is clog up your feed (many of them make several videos a day because ya know they need those clicks).

Also women in Star Wars: All nerds are gay and R2D2 is a lesbian.

At what point can we criticize women in Star Wars without it being categorized as hate speech?

 

If you guys don't want to watch anymore than just don't watch. You don't have to explain yourself to people that you most likely don't know.

It’s insane that comments like that can be made by the women in charge of Star Wars, but any criticism of those comments or of the attitudes those comments represent would be immediately categorized as hate speech. And don’t pretend that that wouldn’t happen.
