    Chapter One: Ripped Away

Pain. An endless torrent of pain. She was one, but she was alive?she was torn between peace and painful consciousness. And she couldn?t bear the air that filled her lungs when she finally gasped for breath.

    Master Tahl Ambrel screamed.

She would have screamed again, but it was just after her new eyes, her sighted eyes, flew open that the memories of her last moments came down upon her like so many knives. ?Oh, Qui-gon, oh I?m so sorry! Don?t fall, don?t fall to the dark! Obi-wan, help him! ?She thought as tears began to pour down her cheeks and down her neck. Another gasp, and she reached out in desperation to grasp her bond to her Padawan, Bant. But only a void greeted her mental probe. She went terribly still on the cold metal table upon which she lay, whispering her horrified realization that the bond was gone?.

It was not unusual for a bond to wane, but never did one totally disintegrate. Unless?.unless the person on the other end was dead. Her Bant was dead.

Droids moved her, and Tahl was shocked by the sheer power she suddenly regained her sensitivity to. The Dark Side swirled and hissed in her ear. It was only when the snap-hiss of a lightsaber reached her, only when the droids dropped her prone form to the ground, that Tahl fully regained herself.

She scrambled to her feet, still slightly disoriented, as the red blade sliced the last of the staff she?d not noticed until they screamed. A hand clamed over her mouth, and she was forcibly drug into the shadows.

?Quiet, Ambrel!? Hissed the voice of Qui-gon?s Master. Tahl blinked, turning to stare at Yan Dooku with a look akin to saying ?Oh-what-did-you-do-now??. He glowered at her in return and tossed a blue cloak at her.

?Hurry! Explanations can be given once we?re out of this Force-forsaken mess. I?ve destroyed his little experiment, but I won?t risk the other centers finding out. Follow, heres a saber.? He handed her a lightsaber and she nodded, frowning all the same.

The hurried along a corridor in what appeared to be a medical facility of some kind crossed with an Olarin Alchemist?s lab. Tahl took time as the accessed a turbolift to see what she had with her. Besides the saber, she had a white belt cinching a long tunic that fell to just under her knees. ?So,? she thought dryly, I?m about as well-protected as Obi-wan when the Force seems to have it out for him? But then she grimaced. Thinking that way made her remember her Padawan was dead. What had become of Bant and her best friends? Of Obi-wan and Garen and Reeft, and young Siri Tatchi?

The turbolift stopped on what looked to be a port terminal. Tahl gripped the saber tightly, eyes darting from one end of the port to the other, taking in everything from the deactivated droidekas to the last person she wanted to see standing tense before a shuttle.

??Didn?t you throw yourself into an acid pool, Xanatos??? She asked tersely, eyes narrowing as she ran with Dooku to the craft. 'Here he is, the source of all Qui?s heartache before Obi-wan'. But Xanatos, to her amazement, bowed his head in submission, eyes dull and pained. He said nothing, hurrying onto the loading ramp behind the two Masters.

?Program coordinates, Xanatos. We?re headed to Alderaan. I?ll inform Senator Organa or our success.? Dooku said. Xanatos nodded and began franticly entering the coordinates into the Navicomputer.

Tahl strapped herself in, her breath coming in ragged intervals as the last twenty-was it really twenty?-minutes caught up to her. Twenty minutes ago she?d been?she?d been within the Force, having just left her body and her love and Padawan.

She slumped back into the seat, finally worn out by the short battle and subsequent escape from wherever she?d been ripped from the force. Weakly, she managed to say one thing more before allowing exhaustion to take here.

? I should have gone to Bandomeer??

Chapter 2: A Most Tragic Account

They had just made the leap to Hyperspace when Dooku and Xanatos turned their seats towards her, the latter looking anywhere but Tahl?s eyes.
? I suppose you want to know everything..? Dooku said in his cultured voice. Tahl nodded, but the change in his voice didn?t get past her. ?Since when does Yan Dooku let emotion slip into his voice?? Something was terribly wrong, and Tahl felt her stomach twist into knots when Dooku?s eyes clouded with sadness.
? You died thirty-some years ago on New Apsolon.? Tahl paled. Thirty YEARS?
?Yes, thirty. Ten years later I joined the Darkside.? Tahl?s eyes widened, her mind reaching out for hints of the Darkside. She came up with none, and voiced this.
? But you feel?grey..not light exactly, but you are no longer Fallen.? He nodded, sighing.
?Not a Fallen. A Sith.,? He held up a hand to stop any reply, but Tahl had none to voice.
? You see, the Sith Lord Sidious had hidden himself for many decades, finally coming to Coruscant. So powerful was he that he evaded even Master Yoda?s senses. For two years prior to my Fall he attempted to turn me, but I always contacted Qui-gon to get my mind off the temptation. It worked, keeping me from Falling, but not decreasing my disdain for the Old Order. Then my old Master used the Trade Federation?s greed to set a blockade of Naboo. I am sure you know who Chancellor Valorum sent??
? The Danger-prone duo.? Said Xanatos quietly. Tahl wanted to say something acidic to the youngest of them, but found herself agreeing. It had been, in her first lifetime, well known that Qui-gon Jinn had gone from a driven, serene Jedi Master to a driven, outwardly-serene Jedi hiding a quickly-graying father within five years of his taking of Obi-wan as his Padawan learner. Not that young Obi-wan hadn?t ended up with one or two grey hairs himself. Tahl sighed again, and gestured for Dooku to continue.
? Qui-gon and Obi-wan weren?t on the mission for more than a day when their transport was destroyed and they themselves forced to hide on Naboo?.by way of an invasion force. They escaped with the Queen, Padme Naberrie at the time, and found en route to Coruscant a boy?the Chosen One.?
?Qui-gon found The Chosen One?? Tahl whispered, hardly believing it. But if the Force was balanced, why was Bant dead and how did the dead walk again?
? That loathsome prophesy was misread, Master Ambrel, don?t think everything was sunshine and roses?? Xanatos?s frown deepened as he shot her an irritated glance. She returned it with a cool-headed Master-look, to which he immediately backed down with his retort. ?He has not grown out of his cockiness, I see? Dooku shot Xanatos a look as well.
? Yes. Anakin Skywalker. With him?and after the council refused to have the ten year old trained----they returned Padme to Naboo, where the Sith apprentice Darth Maul fought them. Tahl? She started at the lack of title and the underlying grief as he spoke her name, ? Qui-gon had one moment of foresight in the heat of battle. Whatever he saw, and I?m sure it involved Obi-wan being killed, drove him to...sacrifice himself. Tahl, Qui-gon died twenty years ago.?
Her heart froze in her chest. ?Qui-gon..damned overprotective son of a Bantha!? She thought, thinking of the boy Qui-gon loved so dearly. Part of her wanted to deny it, but the act of dying for Obi-wan was so?so?Qui-gon that she knew it was true.
    ?And??
? And two days later I became Darth Tyranus. I was a fool, so easily led to believe Qui-gon had died due to the Council?s erroneous judgment. Within ten years, a clone army was used by the Republic to end my Separatist Movement. It was a trap. With Order 66, nearly every Jedi from Master to Crècheling was slaughtered. I myself died a month before at Anakin?s hands. And so here we are??
?Alive.? She said, gesturing to Xanatos, ? All of us should be dead. Force, there shouldn?t be anything LEFT of that lunatic to bring him back!?
? I?m not crazy.? He said in irritation. She quirked

    Chapter 3: The Rebellion
The royal palace of Alderaan was magnificent, with silver spires and golden details along every window in shining brilliance, though the disgruntled former Count didn?t seem to care, and Xanatos remained silent and doleful throughout their long walk up to where Senator and King Bail Organa stood. Tahl?s first impression was that Bail had seen too much, and knew how precious his loved ones really were. She liked him.
?Master Dooku, good to see you made it. And welcome back, Xanatos. And-ah this must be Master Tahl Ambrel!? He bowed and she smiled warmly.
?Finally,? she though,? Someone who isn?t going to sulk all day.?
?I am Bail Organa, Viceroy of Alderaan. This-?He gestured to a woman coming down the corridor, a small girl walking serenely behind her,? is my wife Breha, and my daughter, Leia.? Breha smiled kindly and curtsied, little Leia mimicking her mother perfectly. Leia, however, glowed brightly in the Force. Tahl did not need a Datacomp to tell that the girl?s Midichlorian count was off the charts.
?Pleased to meet you.? Breha said in a cultured accent. She turned to Tahl.
?Mistress Jedi, good to see you in one piece. And for Force?s sake, Master Dooku?.the tailor is going to want you dead for sure this time!? Dooku rolled his eyes. This was obviously a well-worn routine, but Xanatos?s smirk told Tahl that there was a new response to Dooku?s ragged robes each time they came back.
?Why is it that only Xanatos and Mistress Suyala can return here clean?? Breha said, not noticing Leia?s mimicking behind her back. Xanatos grinned at the child, who came around and hugged his knees.
?Xani!? She yelled, giggling when the young man picked her up and swung her on his shoulders.
?Well, twerp, ready to lose again while your mom and dad fill old Tahl in?? Tahl rolled her eyes, too caught up in how much like the old Xanatos the boy had reverted too. Being dead had obviously done him a lot of good.
As soon as the young Jedi left with the child, the room turned serious in mood. Bail gestured for them to follow him and Breha down another corridor.
? I?m certain Master Dooku has explained, in short, the last twenty years. What he haven?t told you is of the Rebel Alliance. This is one of only a handful of safe houses in the galaxy, thanks the Sidious and Vader. Mon Mothma, a senator I?m sure you know, leads us against the Sith Empire.?
? Dooku said on the way up here that there were?Purge survivors?? Tahl asked.
She didn?t need any more on the Alliance. It was one of the most basic lessons taught to initiates in the Temple: Corruption begets Tyranny and Tyranny begets Rebellion. With the Sith in control, it was only natural that honest Senators like Mon Mothma and Bail Organa would be part of a resistance. What she was desperate to know was who of her time still lived.
?Some we do not know of, I?m sure?but I know of young Suyala, Master Windu?s Padawan and two Councilors: Master Kit and Master Aayla. There's also two very odd young twins, a boy and girl, who are Jedi, though nameless to us as of now?.Suyala survived thanks to one Bant Eerin, your Padawan I was told.? His eyes were kind as he laid a hand on her shoulder.
?She hid her in an air pocket in the waters of the Room of a Thousand Fountains. She perished, I?m sad to say, but her end was noble?protecting younglings.? Tahl nodded, eyes downcast in a moment of remembrance for her precious Padawan. Then she looked back at Bail, composed, though a glitter of pain still haunted her eyes.
? And?Kit and Aayla? I thought they were Generals?Order 66 did not catch them??
? No, but it almost did. Kit was facing Sidious and managed to be throw out the window of the Chancellor?s apartments. He immediately sent warning to Aayla on Felucia, who killed her Clone Troopers before they had the chance to turn on her. Then both of them took off for Telos. The rest you can probably surmise.? He continued walking a few paces before he not

..they will most likely have Master Jinn within a week.? Suyala?s eyes widened, the only sign of her horror. They had been told it would be weeks before that could be possible. Now only a matter of days separated their hope from utter despair.

Here we go, chapter 4. Sorry for the wait!

    -

Chapter 4: The Senate and The Awakening
?You?ve GOT to be kidding me! Haha!? Xanatos cried as he came around the corner of the Queen?s rooms to find Tahl waiting for Breha in what amounted to a very girly version of a Jedi?s costume, except with a long, entirely too frilly skirt. Or at least to frilly for the stern Master it covered.
?My?? Tahl said, resigning herself to being turned into a life-sized doll in her disguise as Tanya Asari, Queen Breha?s newest handmaiden,? You?ve grown haven?t you?? Xanatos stopped his laugher and smiled sadly.
?I saw the Temple Ruins. Something like that can work more wonders than any speech about the darkness?.I wanted revenge against Qui-gon?.but the Sith?.there is no logic in slaughtering younglings when all the Masters are dead.? He sounded worn, but entirely of sound mind. Only Xanatos could apply logic to just about everything you could say and have it make sense. Tahl smiled at him, allowing herself to see how he had grown, rather than the terrifying specter of his youth.
? T-Tanya? Tanya, are you ready?? Called Breha from the door, her Imperial Gown flowing behind her. Tahl smiled and picked up her own skirts, adjusting the headdress as she passed Dooku. He nodded to her.
? I?ll com you if we hear anything. Remember, the Senate is far more dangerous that anything you?ve ever face. I hope you can lie through your teeth, because that?s the only surefire way to survive.?
? Trust me, Master Dooku.? She said. He laid a hand on her shoulder.
? Be careful?.? He said softly. She nodded.
    ?Don?t I always??
    ?That?s what I?m afraid of??

Tahl walked demurely behind her Queen, eyes heavily made up with a gold eye shadow that Breha herself had applied to contrast the contacts that made the older woman?s eyes black as night.
The Senate, and Coruscant, had not changed since Tahl?s death, except for the ghastly ruins of the Jedi Temple. Tahl took a deep breath as she remembered the ruins. The Council Tower had been cut off the tip of the Temple?s largest spire, sitting on the ground in bits and pieces in the outside terrace. A gaping hole in the side revealed the Room of a Thousand Fountains, miraculously intact. Tahl had looked away when she?d caught sight of the fountains, for it held memories?.Bant swimming, teaching Tahl who had never learned as a youngling. Herself, a bit younger, slipping and falling on a startled Qui-gon?.Obi-wan and Bant laughing themselves horse at the blushes on both Master?s faces as they realized they had almost kissed. Yoda, playing with her and her age-mates when they were Initiates.
Yoda. She wondered where he was?if he?d survived. More than ever did she need his warm smile, his voice?..her heart hurt, and only Yoda had ever been able to fully heal her internal wounds. He was, though ancient, the pillar they all rested against at one point or another, and a life without his kindness---just his kindness---seemed quite lonely.
? Here he comes.? Whispered Breha in a voice that betrayed none of her fury. Tahl?s stomach twisted in a knot as she fidgeted with the one-sided Force dampening unit that allowed her to feel, but damped her own signature. It was disgusting how even the non-sensitives could not feel the overwhelming darkness of the cloaked figure before them.
? Loyal Senators!? Cried Palpatine in a froggy voice that set the hair on Tahl?s neck on end. He continued to speak, detailing the destruction of a Rebel base and how thankful he was that none of the ?good? civilians had been hurt. It was rubbish, utter nonsense, and yet the Senators lapped it up, minus those Tahl knew were pretenders like Breha.
She could see that he was badly aged, and Tahl smiled.
?Good job Mace?.you almost had him? She though, sighing. Breha had related the whole story to her, from Anakin?s warning to his turning and fear?.to Mace?s murder.
She tensed. Her job now was to protect Breha until she could learn of the whereabouts of

? General Windu just showed up with those Jedi kids we told you about. Admiral Lestin?s spy reported back?they? they have Master Qui-gon?

This is definitely not good! [face_worried]

His Padawan was 45? His Little One??.twenty years. Qui-gon did not even try to understand how he?d gone from lying in his Padawan?s lap as he died to a durasteel table speaking with a dead woman. He took a breath, reaching along his bond to his second Padawan, and quietly checked the barrier.
It was still there, the wall he?d constructed before his death. He took another deep breath. Obi-wan didn?t know his Master was alive, just as he had not known the excruciating pain of death?..who knew what would have happened if the boy had tried to take the death-pain upon himself.

That wouldn't have been good, and now that wall is quite helpful! [face_mischief]

    Go, Qui-Gon! Get away! [face_dancing]

    Chapter 5: Saving Qui-gon
Manaan?s spaceport had been the only land city for generations, though small homesteads had popped up along the water?s surface in recent years. The ship they?d taken, the Mission, landed upon once such island-like dwelling in the middle of Manaan?s
daytime, giving the Jedi onboard some much needed warmth. Tahl looked around her. The sand of the beach was genuine, brought up from the ocean floor most likely, and covered the floating Tansim steel that allowed the island to exhist.
Sun?or was it Moon?...stretched and yawned. The smaller of the figures then lowered her hood, and every thought Tahl had ran out of her head at the oh-so-Obi-wan eyes and ginger hair.
? Will you all kindly stop doing that?? She asked weakly, leaning against Suyala for support. A Jedi Master she was, but there was still only so much information she could process at one moment, and the Force-sent truth that the girl was Obi-wan?s child was one of those things that would knock even Yaddle off her seat.
    The girl smiled shyly.
? I?m sorry, Master. I thought they had told you.? She said, light accent bearing many traces of Obi-wan in it. Tahl shot a glare at Dooku, who was also staring in a mix of of shock and amusement at the new development. The boy also lowered his hood, and Tahl broke out laughing.
He was tall, with the same eyes and face as his sister---twins?---but with redder hair that was, to the amusement of the girly-side within Tahl, tied up exactly like Qui-gon?s, with a braid from either side meeting in the back to fall with a mane of hair, to mid-back.
? I?m Qui-gon, Master. This is my sister?er Tahl.? Ms. Tahl waved. Dooku rolled his eyes. Suyala just bit her lip and walked with Xanatos up to the door, leaving Tahl standing slack-jawed by the ship.
She was still standing there when the next shock of the day---albeit a pleasant one---came walking out in civilian clothes.
At the door to the house, Master Kit Fisto and Master Aayla Secura stood, both staring in shock at the twins, Tahl, and Xanatos. Apparently they had not known anyone but Dooku was alive, or that Obi-wan had definitely broken the Code. Tahl didn?t feel much pity for them, at least they weren?t dead for twenty years.
Once glance, however, assured her Obi-wan wasn?t the only one and she indeed did not need to feel pity. They stood close together, Kit?s arm around Aayla?s waist to support her as she sunk in shock at Tahl standing there in something akin to a Cathari biosuit.
? The code just flew out the window, didn?t it?? Asked Suyala with a grin at Tahl and Dooku, who also seemed to of been ignorant of the Masters new lives. Kit flushed even while a nauseous Xanatos pretended to retch. Tahl shot him a glare that held little venom.
? Tahl!? Kit said, finally out of his stupor, He rushed forward to embrace her, tentacles flying every which way in delight.
? They had not told us who was back!? He said. Tahl would have responded, but he was almost crushing her petite frame with joy.
? Kit, Kit, let her go.? Said Aayla, grabbing her husband by the headtails and dragging him towards the house. He pried her hands off him, and grinned that unsettling yet undeniably cute smile of his. Aayla Fisto sighed and rolled her eyes, gesturing for all of them to come inside.
The Fistos had made the dwelling into a kind of training room, complete with mats and wooden blades in an umbrella holder off to one side.
? We think he?s off near sector 5..route 7?? Aayla said, walking up the short stairs to the bedroom. Kit sighed, and motioned for them to follow him.
? Here, Tahl---your saber, spare robes ( pardon the lack of material, they?re Aayla?s). Xan, you sure you don?t want your old saber? Just because its still red?? Xanatos cut him off with an icy glare, and the elder Jedi backed of

Something was terribly wrong... Then some tingling sensation flew through him. Someone, a Jedi, was thinking of him. He could feel the pinprick in his mind of a loose bond. He had many of these, most of them dead like those they connected him to, but this dead link had been growing for a while, yet he had not touched it. Now he did, and the shock actually bowled him over.

Chapter 6: The Ways of the Force

? I have a bad feeling about this? Said the younger Qui-gon, whom Tahl had taken to calling Qui ( His sister was Ta, Tahl?s old nickname). Tahl and the two Councilors stopped dead in their tracks.
? Uh-oh?? Whispered Suyala, who had bumped right into Kit?s head. A tentacle wobbled in worry on the elder Jedi?s head, and the tips of Aayla?s shook slightly.
? What?s ?uh-oh? for?? Asked Xanatos, looking from Tahl to Dooku with apprehension.
? That?s Obi-wan?s tagline?.? Suyala said, deadpanning it. Dooku?s eyebrows shot up, disappearing into his silver hair.
? I knew that was familiar?..I do believe my Apprentice moaned about that silly tagline?the boy was right every time.? Tahl shivered, wondering what had prompted the words from Obi-wan?s son. Qui himself looked perplexed, for he?d probably never known his father. But she set her jaw and thought about the Force?s guidance in years before.
? You?re not going.? She said abruptly. The Jedi around her stared, even as her eyes swept the group. Aayla frowned, opening her mouth to begin what would have been a typical Council Telling-Off, but Tahl beat her to it.
? The Order is dead?please do not make me explain myself as if it wasen?t?I?m taking Xanatos with me.? Xanatos blinked once, rather taken aback, as the others continued their skeptical staring.
? You have??a reason?? Asked Kit, looking crestfallen, but interested. Tahl turned gold-green eyes to her old companion. She felt it though, the sliver of approval from the Living Force which flowed so well in her. The direction of the Force had shifted in the second after Qui had spoken. What is was, she was not sure, but something had changed. A hint? A future? Or a second chance? Possibilities flowed through her mind, each a second, a lifetime, and an eternity
?The?.? she paused for a moment, aware of how Qui-gon she was going to sound, smiling ? The Force directs me?.? As expected, Kit and Aayla exchanged the look they used long ago, when Qui-gon would try to explain his latest ?Maverick Mission?. But when they turned back to her, they seemed to agree.
? If you must. We will remain here and share information, perhaps attempt to find of just where Master Yoda sent Obi-wan with Skywalker?s boy-child.? Tahl nodded, then turned towards the door. Xanatos stood there, lightsaber in hand and eyes steeled for the first meeting with his Master since his psychotic end. He bowed slightly to her and took a place two steps to the right and a suitable distance from the elder Jedi.
This gesture was not lost on Tahl, and she caught his eye with a gentle look. He bowed his head, and it was over. Tahl would make a true Jedi out of the boy who still smoldered with hate in his soul.
?Qui-gon?.hang on?we?re coming?.? She said in her mind, before waving to Dooku, who looked sullen, and Ta, who was biting her lip with worry. Tahl stopped and looked down at the girl with sympathy.
? I?m coming back with your grandfather, Ta. You have nothing to worry about?well?.? She put on a mask of playfulness and learned forward,? except Qui-gon?s over protectiveness for a grandchild. Force, the man is intolerable like that.? She winked, happy with the results as Ta visibly relaxed and smiled up at her----oh Force, Tahl felt old---Jedi grandmother.
? Don?t get killed. I don?t feel like dealing with it.? Dooku drawled in his usual aristocratic tone, narrowing his eyes to mask whatever he was thinking. Xanatos smiled.
? Aw, Dooky, I didn?t know you care---ow!? He fell back into Suyala, holding the back of his head where Dooku had Force-slapped him. Tahl shook her head.
    ? Lets go.?

Qui-gon took a large breath as he was led to a cell at the end of a long set of corridors, head pounding. He?d not gone far before security, some of the deluded Dark Jedi, had covered all escape. And in his weakened condition, even the Maverick Master couldn?t hold his own. He could send a message to Tahl, but now that so many Dark Jedi surr

Actually, Master, someone else used Dooky....if anyone knows who, tell me. I'd like to thank them...though I do have this problem of hitting y rather than u since they're right next to each other...couldn't resist.

    As for the names...well I had to. I was confusing myself..[face_laugh] [face_laugh]

?I found the large plumbing exit?? Said Xanatos...

? Its always that or the garbage shoot?? Tahl smirked...

The drainage pipe was well hidden behind row after row of bio-containment and bacta tanks. Had Xanatos not known from Dooku, who had taken careful note of both Tahl and Xanatos?s cell blocks; they would have been trapped within minutes by the rage-filled Fallens.

[face_sick] That's almost a fate worse than death!

And, by the way, I like my Jedi pancakes with syrup! ;)

    Interesting update! :)

    Thanks for the PM! [face_batting]
