I'm rereading the Han Solo trilogy by A.C. Crispin right now. Does anyone know what Han got the blood stripes for? It never says in the book, it only says its something Han doesn't want to think of.

There are two kinds of correllian bloodstripes, actually according to han solo adventures and sourcebook as I recall. One is higher rating then the other. The sourcebook tells how he got the lesser ones as I recall, but not how he got the greater ones. Han sometimes doesn't wear the greater ones because they would be too much of giveaway when he tries to be icognito on planets.

He was going to be awarded some when he returned some orphans to Corellia in the Han Solo Trilogy, but then they found out that he already had a pair.

Corellian: I heard you chased an entire platoon of Stormtroopers while on the Death Star!?! Do you have a pair?

Han Solo: Buddy I have the biggest pair you ever saw.

Well, just checked it says he got his yellow stripes(second-class blood stripe) had something to do with a wookie. Perhaps his freeing of chewbacca? It says the yellow are difficult to receive.

Red stripes(first-class) are useally awarded post-humously and are the most difficult to receive. Han did something untold but most likely very heroic to receive it.

I don't think he would get his yellow stripes for saving Chewbacca, since his emancipation of the Wookiee was the reason he was kicked out of the military in the first place. In "A Guide to the Star Wars Universe (Third Edition), it says that the bloodstripes are Han's only reference to his military service (with the Empire).

The reason the Imps didn't take them away was because they are a Corellian award. So do you think we'll ever learn how he earned them?

"Corellians like their privacy as well, and he told me how he got his first-class blood stripes on condition it didn't become public knowledge, and I respect that. If you want to know it, you ask him yourself, but I'll let you in on this, the second one had to do with a wookie."-Alexandr Badure.

The correllians give the bloodstripes, not the empire. It is always up to the correllians to give the bloodstripes for reasons they see fit. It is awarded for extreme courage.

Perhaps the corellians awarded it to Han because of the extreme courage it took for him to defy his superiors, in doing what he saw to be right, by defending chewbacca.

But he already had the bloodstripes when he was booted out of the Imperial Navy for saving Chewie. That was his only thing, besides the boots that he was able to keep.

"The following textfile is an excerpt from the transcript of an oral history compiled a few years ago by Professor Emeritus Skynx, at the University of Ruuria. The subject is Alexandr "Trooper" Badure, a former instructor at Republic/Imperial Military Academy, as well as a long-time military veteran(his tours of duty included the Twi'lek Spice Conflict, the Corellian Territories Engagements and the Outer Rim Wars).

Correllians have always had reputation of doing things just a little bit differently. some say they invented hyperdrive just because they were tired of going sublight like everyone. I'd take that with a pinch of mytag crystal if you get the point. That individuality even includes honoring their heroes. It comes from their idea of courage. They don't see it as jumping through hoops with blaster rifles firing at you. They see it as moral conviction.

You see, anyone can run over a trench and take out an enemy position. That, to them, is instinct. It's not anything you can think about-- you never get the time.
The way corellians see it, it takes more real courage to do something you can contemplate. Especially if it's unpleasent to you personally. Now nobody, or at least very few people, likes seeing strangers come to grief, so it's a big trade-off, to help them out. But, if you stand up for what you believe in and know it's going to hurt, than that's a hero.

While other worlds bestow medals or ribbons to award courage, the Corellians, always a practical people, prefer a no-nonsense approach over shiny bits of ceramic or cloth. Sure, they've got good citizenship prizes, but the important one, the real thing, is a special mark so others will always know they can depend on the person.
What they do is award something they call the Bloodstripe. It's a three-centimeter wide broken stripe of piping sewn on a seam on the trousers.

They have two classes of it. The Second Class is a broken gold stripe. First Class is a broken red stripe. It's pretty difficult to get the Second Class to begin with, and the First Class is useally posthumous.

As I said, it isn't for flashy things, so you can't automatically assume that anyone wearing it is a galactic hero or something. Of course, warfare is just about the hardest thing you can do, so 999 out of every 1,000 are for courage under fire.

You wear it as much as you choose, as often as you like, but it's a commitment It says, "I stand for something, a code, a belief system, something. And I honor my debts."

Many people take a Corellian Bloodstripe to indicate a high and mighty attitude, like Jedi Knight, or someone from Freedom's sons. That's wrong. Someone with a bloodstripe is still human, still makes mistakes, and that bloodstripe doesn't automatically make him your friend. You don't walk up to complete stranger with the 'stripe and suddenly think he or she owes you anything more than the time of day. But it does say they have proven themselves before ... and can do so again.

Let me tell you about a friend of mine. WE go back a long way, Han Solo and I. Now he's a fine example to look at. You remember him back on Dellalt in the Tion?

Corellians like their privacy as well, and he told me how he got his first-class blood stripes on condition it didn't become public knowledge, and I respect that. If you want to know it, you ask him yourself, but I'll let you in on this, the second one had to do with a wookie.

Han Solo hasn't chosen to wear the First Class in a while. After all, a high profile in his line of work can be deadly, and in the right quarters, a Bloodstripe is about as high profile as it gets. I once heard he almost made the Final Jump after some bounty hunter identified him by it.

Now that he's some famous Rebel, some act surprised he came from such a "lowly" background. Me, I always knew he'd go far."

Well all it implies is that he got it for saving chewie. Perhaps while he was in the brig waiting for his court-martial the correlian consulate sent him the blood stripes in honor of his having held onto

Well, the empire couldn't even take them from him, because it wasn't their honor to do so. Only the correllian government gives out the stripes and can say who diserves them. They don't mean much to the empire, because it isn't an imperial award.

Plus Corellia is (I believe) a Neutral World. So if say Coruscant was giving off an award like that, the Empire can dictate on stripping it or not.

Yes, if it was an imperial military award they can dictate removal of it, or not. But since the stripe wasn't tied to imperial customs they couldn't touch it.

Right, and I think it was Bey who received a set in the flashback of Marvel issue #100 (they looked like a celluloid reel of film, they way they were drawn). Not sure what color they were, right offhand. Young Han commented that they're extremely difficult to obtain in one's lifetime, IIRC.
