Well I have decided to go as Count Dooku for Hallowe'en this year, but haven't had much luck looking for costuming sites for him...

Anyone know of any good ones?

    Hey,
I did a Dooku last Halloween almost blind (no help) and I think it looks ok. Judge for yourself. There are some cheesy prototype saber pix too.

PM me for info and ingredients.

Well, for a start, u must examine what is your budget and level of accuracy u want to achieve. Using the action figures and lots of photos of the actual costume will be a great start. ;)

As far as sewing advice...Dooku's pants and jacket are almost an exact replica of the Imperial officer's uniform without all of the rank stuff on it-one of George's cookies-so I would check out the info available on sewing an Imperial officer's uniform for the main part of the costume, and then start looking for a suitable cap pattern and the small details like the cape closure, belt materials, etc.
I have sewn Imperial officer's uniforms before-and they are not easy-so take your time. There should be a thread about it-probably a ways back so you may be scrolling for a while.

I too have been trying to find the means to construct this outfit. A friend is in need of it for something he's doing...he won't tell me what................

Looking at allot fo references, the cape seems to have a pattern going on at the shoulders, the boots are VERY basic, and could probably be purchased relatively cheap because they're so basic (I'm thinking some cheap German riding boots.). The pants are just baggy slacks. The top is actually two pieces. An undershirt, which, if you look, looks an aweful lot like a Japaneese kendo uniform shirt...mostly. Either that or something one of those japaneese fry cooks wear.

Then there's the overshirt, the jacket, which bears a resemblance to the imperial jacket. It's NOT the imperial jacket. It looks a bit like one, but it isn't. The collor is NOT attached, and the cuff is only about a millimeter. Contrary to popular belief, and I believe it's popular because I saw it at a costume event last year, Dooku does NOT wear a v-neck jacket. It's a round neck.

The belt...doesn't look like too much, but I'd have to check a reference or two.

All in all though, it's a pretty basic design. It's just a matter of figuring out materials the cape pattern and the belt.

Well, the boots are basic, but not really cheap. They are black riding boots, and you can get them in synthetic (not leather) but they are still going to cost around $100 for them with s&h. Feel free to pm me for the name of the boots and where to get them-they are the same boots used for other Imperial costumes.
The jacket may not be EXACTLY the same as an officer, but the construction is close-so if you are going to make it yourself it would be a good idea to get aquainted with how we are all sewing the Imperial Officer uniforms, and then adjust to make the proper Dooku modifications. The jacket was intended to look similar to the Imperial officer's uniforms, just as in other similarities seen in costumes, backgrounds, and ships seen in Episode II to start the blending of the prequels and sequels.
There is a pattern by Simplicity for a men's historical war uniform that we use for the basic shape with some modifications.
You can also pm me for info on the belt.

Cheap is a matter of point of reference. I've seen how expensive boots can get. $100 isn't bad, LOL.

Good to know there's someone who also has the whole 'prequels blending into the sequels' perspective going on.

I'll be sure to PM you about those things.

I noticed something. Near the end, there's no pattern in Dooku's cape. Rather a large deep brown line all the way down the back. Check out the documentary for 'from puppets to pixels' on the AotC DVD disk II.

Interesting that he's shown with two different capes in the movie. I wonder if there was a purpose.

Veyr Nice! I also built my father a Dooku costume tthis year, I made the belt, and the tunic was a chekfs tunic with the hidden buttons. It was perfect. He couldnt bring himself to grow a beard though, and all we had time for before halloween was tog et a rubies cape. I was surprised to find the clasps were metal and movie accurate (but not the clamps ont he back. Ultrasabers even built him a curved hilt saber.

I was having trouble getting your image!

I too used the chef tunic pattern and modified it.
The cape I used a cape pattern but had to make my own pleated yoke.
I took a neclace apart for the chain clasp
I made my belt out of vinyl and paint.
We quickly had to order the toy lightsaber for this youth group costume party in Nov.
We'll get him a better one.

Well, I'm re-doing the cape I made for my husband's Dooku outfit. The last one I made with no pattern. For this one I'm looking for a pattern. Does anyone know which patterns can be modified to look good? I can't figure out if it should be a two piece type thing, or a three piece triangle type thing.

    Any suggestions? Sketches? Hints, anything?
