    Hello AOTC board,

this is isn't very well thought out i'm afraid but i thought i'd share. i recently re-watched parts of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and was knocked out by similarities i found between the chase sequence right after the sword (the green destiny?) is stolen and obi-Wan/Anakin's pursuit of Zem on Coruscant.

Both take place over rooftops (flying), both ?pursuees? are veiled, both sequences end with the pursuer holding a dart but more strikingly both sequences employ very similar percussion based music tracks as accompaniment.

Did anyone else consider these two sequences to be similar or am i right out on this one?

Hey, never really realized this. But now that I think of it, I do believe you're correct.

I would call it more of an archetype than an homage. I doubt that Lucas had the film in his mind when he was constructing the sequence.

However, I do give you credit for comming up with the most creative thread title of the day. :D

    :) Mace Windy,
    too windy for words!

I've never seen Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, but now it seems I have more reason to do so more than ever.

I've never seen it either, and I feel kinda sorry for that because I've always enjoyed that kind of superhuman kung fu flick.

CT, HD... honestly... that has to be the silliest film I have ever seen

    Good action scenes though

Doubt the sequences described in the intial post was an homage to "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon." However, I didn't find the movie (CT, HD) silly at all.

Lucas and Star Wars was influenced by Asian cinema and culture so there will be many parallels and similarities.

    great analogy
    and both are great movies
although Crouching Tiger had a much more believable love story and better acting than AOTC

The actual titled for "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" is "Wo hu cang long."

The film also won an Oscar for Best Foreign Film.

May I add that it is an absolutely awesome film, and not an American film at all.

CTHD was paid for by American money. It was directed by a director who has spent most of his life in America, has been trained in America (NYU) and who has made most of his movies in English for American studios.

Though it won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language film, CTHD is an American movie.

Too true, most of which by a man named Akira Kurosawa and a little known film of his entitled The Hidden Fortress.

I thought the plot was dumb and the characters were rather wooden, but I loved the fights in the movie. They were fantastic, especially the fight between the two ladies. :D And the ending was sad. :(

Since this topic has turned into more of a Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon discussion thread than a thread discussing any similarities to AOTC, I am going to go ahead and lock it.

If you have a valid argument, complaint, or question as to why this thread was locked, feel free to discuss it with me via PM. :)

    Mace Windy,
    too windy for spoilers!
