Dark Force Rising questions Lucas ripping some of the ideas off (possible spoilers)

I recently finished Heir to the Empire and loved it. I have started the next book and have a few comments. The bounty hunter that Mara Jade kills, his ID says Dengar. Does this happen to be the Dengar from the bounty hunter wars, i think he wears the wiered hood and stuff. Also, when Luke is searching the imperial library for information on Jorus C'Boath, it comes up with him serving SENATOR Palpatine. Did Lucas get his ideas for Palpatines beginings from Zhan, or was Zhan able to look at Lucas's story that was supposedley existed from the begining.

On a slightly related topic, does anyone know where i can see some illustrations of Ysalmari or Noghri, Zhan's descriptions are breif and i can't quite picture them.

I think Zahn got the idea from Lucas. Besides even if he didn't, anything someone writes for a Star Wars book becomes property of Lucasfilm so it wouldn't matter if Lucas got the idea from Zahn or not (and I doubt he did).

As for the senator thing, it could have been pulled from history. I can think of several emperors offhand that were senators and overturned the senate, setting themselves up as dictators.

If you haven't read TTT before, you'll love The Last Command. I couldn't put it down (I literally read it in one day the first time, it was that d*** good).

Palpatine's senator history can be found all the way back in the ANH novelization prologue of all places. That idea was lucas's all the way.

As well zahn didn't kill dengar, he comes back in several stories set after ttt.

 

The man was using the Dengar Roth ID as an alias.
